Lowes Foods supports Greenville community with 42,600 lbs. of food and water to the Harvest Hope Food Bank

GREER, S.C. , 2016-Oct-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — Lowes Foods, which recently opened its first store in the Greenville area, is helping those seeking food, shelter and assistance from the impact of Hurricane Matthew. Lowes Foods will deliver 42,600 lbs. of food and bottle water to the Harvest Hope Food Bank in Greenville at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 6.

“We contacted Harvest Hope and discovered that the greatest anticipated needs, at least in the immediate future, are for large cans of food to serve groups in shelters and smaller pull-top cans to assist people in homes without electricity. Harvest Hope also anticipates a tremendous demand for bottled water,” Lowes Foods president Tim Lowe said. “Our Lowes Foods Hosts and our partners at MDI worked very hard during the day on Wednesday to quickly prepare a large quantity of food and water for delivery to help the Greenville evacuation efforts.”

Lowe said the items being shipped to Harvest Hope Food Bank include cans of vegetables and ready to eat food, granola bars and bottle water. He urged others who want to send food to relief areas to consider that there may not be readily available sources for cooking food and contribute ready-to-eat items. Lowes Foods also is sending representatives to Harvest Hope mid-day on Thursday to assist with the process of unloading the food and water.

“Our friends in the Greenville area have been incredibly welcoming to all of us at Lowes Foods since we opened in Greer less than two weeks ago. As a new neighbor, we want to do our part but know that this may be the first step in what may be a prolonged relief effort,” Lowe said. “If the storm lives up to what forecasters think it may be, there will be a need for additional supplies of food and water. We’re all going to need to work together to get the job done.”
