About T1D

In T1D, a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. People with T1D need to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin (with injections or an insulin pump) multiple times every day, and carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night. However, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, and even with that intensive care, a significant portion of the day is still spent with either high or low blood sugar, placing people with T1D at risk for devastating complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, and amputation.

About JDRF
JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. To accomplish this, JDRF has invested more than $2 billion in research funding since our inception. We are an organization built on a grassroots model of people connecting in their local communities, collaborating regionally for efficiency and broader fundraising impact, and uniting on a national stage to pool resources, passion, and energy. We collaborate with academic institutions, policymakers, and corporate and industry partners to develop and deliver a pipeline of innovative therapies to people living with T1D. Our staff and volunteers throughout the United States and our six international affiliates are dedicated to advocacy, community engagement and our vision of a world without T1D. Fair Oaks, CA, 2016-Oct-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Prairie Grove Farms, in partnership with Raley’s Family of Fine Stores, is proud to donate over  $50,000 to The Farmer Veteran Coalition. A portion of every Prairie Grove Farms product purchased at Raley’s helps provide veterans of all eras and branches with viable employment and meaningful careers in farming and ranching. These opportunities offer returning veterans a sustainable place in their community, while also strengthening rural economics.

“We are honored to partner with Raley’s to support the work FVC is doing to cultivate a new generation of American farmers,” stated Bart Vitorri, General Manager, Prairie Grove Farms. “By consumers choosing to purchase Prairie Grove Farms products in the Raley’s stores, together we have been able to make a positive impact on the lives of veteran farmers.”

Funds will be used to support specific programs including the “Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund”, which provides small grants to veteran farmers for the tools needed to grow or maintain a sustainable farming future. Farmer Veteran Coalition’s “Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund” assists veterans beginning a career in food and farming, and aides with business expansion, ensuring a smooth military transition. The grantees are awarded not only monetary assistance, but also in-kind supplies, one-on-one farm advice and farming education, as well as mentorships.

“The mission of the Farmer Veteran Coalition is mobilizing veterans to feed America.  But, we also mobilize America’s farmers to support our veterans,” said Michael O’Gorman, Executive Director, Farmer Veteran Coalition. “That is why it is so meaningful to see this support coming from the sale of a wholesome product raised by hard-working family farmers. Raley’s and Prairie Grove Farms’ support makes a direct impact on the success of our farmer veterans in the early stages of their farming endeavors.”

“Raley’s is proud to partner with Prairie Grove Farms in their support of the Farmer Veteran Coalition,” said Koen Vermeylen, Raley’s Director, Meat & Seafood. “We are honored to be able to assist our returning veterans, as a small way of thanking them for their service to our country.”

PAK’nSAVE donates $5,000 to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation

Auckland, New Zealand, 2016-Jul-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — PAK’nSAVE has concluded its superhero-themed birthday celebrations by donating $5,000 to one of the country’s most important charities, the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

Throughout last week, the home of New Zealand’s lowest prices became the headquarters of Super Stickman and his sidekicks – all in the name of raising funds for very worthwhile cause.

Anyone who dressed up as a superhero and took their photo in-store with Super Stickman went into the draw to win a $1000 grocery gift card, and earned a donation for the Foundation.

Steve Bayliss, Group General Manager Marketing, Foodstuffs (NZ) Ltd, says the customer response was impressive, with a wide array of costumes worn in-store and photos uploaded to Facebook.

“As expected, our stores were visited by a lot of Superboys and Spidergirls, and it’s certainly brought a lot of colour and character to our aisles during these wintry school holidays,” says Bayliss.

“The most impressive entry, however, was that sent in by Sade Murray, who not only got dressed up herself but also got five kids in costume and to pose with Super Stickman.”

“As a result of this superhero effort, Sade has won the $1000 gift card from PAK’nSAVE, which she says will be used to feed the children she looks after through her home-based child care business.”

In addition, Bayliss says PAK’nSAVE will donate $5000 to the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.

“This year’s birthday celebration was all about recognising the work the Foundation does to combat a disease that affects far too many Kiwis and their families.”

“While they may not see themselves as heroes, but in our view, just one life saved is an act of heroism, and hopefully our $5000 will go a little way towards helping the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation achieve just that.”

NZ Breast Cancer Foundation chief executive Evangelia Henderson says the $5000 donation will be used to support more of the work the Foundation does.

“This includes helping to fund research into breast cancer treatments, provide support services for those with the disease, and the ongoing promotion of breast cancer awareness.”

Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s and Fresh Market raised more than $30,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Salt Lake City, UT, 2016-Jul-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Thanks to the generosity of their guests, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s and Fresh Market donated more than $30,000 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The funds were raised during an icon drive held June 3-27, 2016 at the 31 locations across Utah. Guests were invited to donate $1.00 to the foundation during checkout to further research for the genetic disease. This is the second year the locally-owned grocery stores have partnered with the Foundation for the drive. Great guest support made the drive a success and this year’s donation is nearly double what the stores donated in 2015.

“We are grateful for the generosity of Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s and Fresh Market’s guests,” said Laura Hadley, executive director of the Utah Idaho Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chapter. “This donation not only allows us to continue our research, but also create new tomorrows for those individuals, including children, living with Cystic Fibrosis.”

The money raised during the drive will be used to fund cystic fibrosis research for new medications and treatment options. Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. It is estimated that more than 30,000 people in the United States alone live with cystic fibrosis and many of these cases are children. For more information about the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, visit www.cff.org.

Participating in the drive is part of Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market’s commitment to serving and giving back to the communities they serve.

Lowe’s to donate $250,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief to help flood victims in West Virginia

MOORESVILLE, N.C., 2016-Jul-08 — /EPR Retail News/ — As recovery continues in West Virginia following devastating flooding, Lowe’s announced today it will donate $250,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief to help those affected. Lowe’s is working with its national nonprofit partners to provide both immediate and long-term support to local communities in West Virginia.

The donation to the Red Cross will help provide food, shelter and comfort to those impacted by the historic flooding. In addition, Lowe’s has activated its American Red Cross customer donation program at all 18 stores in West Virginia to provide a convenient place for customers to make a donation. People also can make a contribution online via the Lowe’s American Red Cross Online Donation Site.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with all of the residents, including Lowe’s employees, who’ve been affected by the widespread flooding,” said James Frison, Lowe’s director of community relations. “As families begin the difficult recovery process, we’ll continue to partner with the Red Cross and do everything we can to help these communities begin to rebuild.”

Lowe’s has worked closely with the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security to assist flood victims by shipping more than 30 truckloads of critically needed supplies to the affected area. Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers have been helping with relief efforts since the flooding, distributing free cleanup supplies in Clarksburg and Charleston, and teaming with the First Response Team of America to help homeowners clean up in White Sulphur Springs.

Nearly two-dozen people were killed by the flooding, which damaged or destroyed more than 1,200 homes. The Red Cross opened shelters across the state, and 700 Red Cross volunteers are on the ground providing relief. Volunteers have distributed more than 130,000 snacks and meals and 105,000 relief items to people in need.

As a member of the Red Cross’ Annual Disaster Giving Program, Lowe’s pledges donations on an ongoing basis in advance of disasters to help ensure the Red Cross can take immediate action. In addition to donating online and at Lowe’s West Virginia stores, individuals can donate by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Since partnering with the Red Cross in 1999, Lowe’s and its customers have contributed more than $26 million for disaster relief.

Donations to Red Cross Disaster Relief are used to help people affected by disasters big and small. Gifts enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters.

Harris Teeter’s fifth annual Support Our Troops donation card campaign raised nearly $800,000 for the USO

Matthews. NC, 2016-Jun-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — Harris Teeter announced today it is donating nearly $800,000 to the USO, an organization dedicated to supporting America’s service members and their families. The donation was made possible thanks to generous contributions from Harris Teeter shoppers and valued associates during the Company’s fifth annual Support Our Troops donation card campaign.

Harris Teeter hosted the donation card campaign throughout the month of May by inviting shoppers to donate $1, $3 or $5 to the USO at checkout.  The $800,000 donation announced today brings the total amount through Support Our Troops since the campaign’s inception in 2012 to over $3.68 million.

The money contributed by Harris Teeter’s shoppers and valued associates will help fund important programs and services for our active duty, retired and wounded service members, as well as their families. One-hundred percent of all funds collected during the campaign will be allocated to local USO chapters throughout the areas in which Harris Teeter does business.

It will allow the USO to deliver valuable programs, entertainment and services that make a difference in the lives of service members and their families throughout their journey in the military. Harris Teeter’s contribution helps the USO support the millions of men and women who make up our nation’s military community, through programs, like these:

  • Operation Phone Home®, helps keep service men and women connected to their loved ones during deployments. Through this highly requested program, more than 778,000 calls were made by deployed service members in 2015.
  • The USO Transition 360 Alliance brings together top organizations that keep service members connected to family, home and country during their transition to civilian life. The network of Alliance partners offers holistic transition support, focusing on three key pillars for success: planning for the future, pursuing a new career, and strengthening your family.
  • The Special Delivery program provides baby showers for military moms-to-be, who have often not experienced a baby shower and are far away from their support network. More than 2,700 military spouses and expectant active-duty mothers have enjoyed this USO program since it began in August 2013.

Harris Teeter, along with the USO, thanks its valued customers and associates who participated in the Support Our Troops campaign.

About the USO
The USO strengthens America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation. At hundreds of locations worldwide, we are united in our commitment to connect our service members and their families through countless acts of caring, comfort, and support. The USO is a private, non-profit organization, not a government agency. Our programs, services and entertainment tours are made possible by the American people, support of our corporate partners and the dedication of our volunteers and staff.

In addition to individual donors and corporate sponsors, the USO is supported by President’s Circle Partners: AT&T, the BNSF Railway Foundation, Clark Construction Group, LLC, The Coca-Cola Company, FedEx, Jeep, Johnson & Johnson, Kroger, NFL and Four-Star Partners: Advisors Excel, BIC, ConAgra Foods, GEICO, Harris Teeter, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks, TKS, USAA and the Wawa Foundation. H&M Foundation makes second donation to Save the Children’s emergency work in Ethiopia

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, 2016-Apr-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — H&M Foundation makes a second donation of USD 400,000 to Save the Children’s emergency work in Ethiopia, due to the current drought crisis. The support will result in food, water, sanitation and basic education to children.

Ethiopia is experiencing its worst drought in fifty years, threatening over 30 million people across the affected area. Despite early warning systems showing signals of a forthcoming disaster, the call for urgent global support is still not being acted upon quickly enough.

A total of USD 500,000 has now been donated by the H&M Foundation to emergency relief efforts in Ethiopia, and it is directed towards food and nutrition, clean water, sanitation and hygiene as well as basic education to children in the affected areas.

With this second donation we can provide rapid response and help more children and their families to handle the worst drought in 50 years in Ethiopia, says John Graham, Country Director Save the Children Ethiopia.

In December 2015, the H&M Foundation donated USD 100,000 to Save the Children which already has contributed to food aid to over 250,000 people, water, medicine and crucial support to families who have lost their incomes and treatment of over 4,000 cases of child malnutrition since the drought started.

An escalation of the drought expected to affect millions of people is predicted for the coming months. This, combined with the fact that the international response to the crisis remains insufficient made it an easy decision to make an additional donation, says I Global Manager at the H&M Foundation.
