This year, over 3,000 clubs registered for the Topaz’ Cash for Clubs initiative. Since its launch in 2015, Cash for Clubs has €400,000 in prizes to clubs across the island of Ireland.

Bray Hockey Club, Co. Wicklow, is the grand prize winner of Cash for Clubs 2017. After signing up to the community initiative, members and friends of the Wicklow club simply fuelled up at their local Topaz in Brennanstown, Co. Sarah O’Connor, Bray Hockey Club Treasurer said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be the winners of this year’s Cash for Clubs grand prize! €10,000 will go such a long way and will enable us to invest in new equipment and the development of our facilities. We are incredibly grateful and excited for what we can achieve, so a massive thanks to Topaz!”

MJ Tierney, Head of Marketing at Topaz, added: “We are delighted to be awarding the €10,000 grand prize to such a deserving club. We would like to congratulate all our winners this year, and Bray Hockey Club especially, who have been lucky enough to win the €10,000 grand prize.

“Cash for Clubs offers an all-inclusive platform, which ensures everyone is a winner and rewards the tireless work of clubs across the country that demonstrate commitment to their communities, day in and day out. We are excited to see the positive impact that the grand prize will make to Bray Hockey Club over the coming months.”

New Zealand: Foodstuffs South Island Ltd won 3 awards at the annual Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)

Foodstuffs South Island Ltd has taken home three prestigious awards at the annual Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) awards dinner held on 21st October 2015.

Christchurch, New Zealand, 2015-11-9 — /EPR Retail News/ — Simon Olsen, Inventory Manager Hornby Distribution Centre, was awarded Young Achiever of the Year; and Foodstuffs South Island Ltd was recognised twice for its new Hornby Ambient Distribution Centre, in the ‘Supply Chain Innovation’, and ‘Implementation and Practice’ categories.

John Mullins, General Manager Supply Chain, Foodstuffs South Island Ltd says, “We’re honoured to be recognised by the industry for being leaders in both innovation and sustained excellence.

“Opening the Hornby Ambient Distribution Centre in October 2014 was a significant milestone. Our new high performance and throughput centre is the result of several years of sustained effort and planning from our team.

“The initial project had many facets that had to come together – it involved changes to our internal systems and how we work with suppliers, as well as constructing a state-of-the-art building based on best practice from overseas.”

Mullins confirms that Hornby is the largest food distribution centre in New Zealand, it has 400 staff, distributing half a million cartons of products per week.

The distribution centre has integrated seismic –resistant order fulfilment systems, a range of sustainability features and has improved product speed to market. This means when one of the Foodstuffs network of stores places an order, it’s delivered within one day, and often delivery is the same day of order.

“In opening Hornby, we were able to consolidate three ambient distribution centres into two offering greater capacity and order processing capability. Other key benefits include an improved transport fleet and network efficiencies, a significant reduction in packing waste, increased distribution flexibility and urgent order processing,” adds Mullins.

Between the distribution centres of Hornby and Dunedin, the Foodstuffs South Island supply chain is servicing around 2,000 customers. Previously this involved entirely manual operations, but with the new distribution centre at Hornby automation was introduced for the split case and small bulk items– around 15% of the business’ total order volume.

“The centre benefits our suppliers, retailers and consumers. Our ultimate objective is to increase productivity, improve accuracy and raise service levels to do the very best job we can for our customers,” says Mullins.

“The Distribution Centre has now been in operation for twelve months. This award is a big congratulation to the Foodstuffs team involved in the Distribution Centre opening and the smooth operations achieved since transition.”

At the same awards, Simon Olsen, Inventory Manager Hornby Distribution Centre, was awarded Young Achiever of the Year.

Simon began his career with Foodstuffs as a student working part-time at the Hornby Temperature Controlled Distribution Centre back in 2002. Since then he has worked his way up through numerous roles into the senior position of Inventory Manager at the Hornby Distribution Centre.

Scott Fairweather, Hornby Distribution Centre Manager, nominated Simon for his outstanding leadership and influence.

“We’re extremely lucky to have Simon in our business. He has been a pivotal member of the team involved in transforming the wholesale operations distribution and enabling a seamless transition of suppliers and members into the new Distribution Centre.”

“Under his leadership, the inventory team have increased productivity, reduced warehouse damages and improved inventory verification resulting in greater order accuracy to our retail members. Simon leads by example – he doesn’t shy away from rolling his sleeves up and getting involved,” says Scott.
John Mullins emphasises that the CILT awards recognise the hard work of all the Foodstuffs staff involved in the distribution centre operations, but particularly those involved in the project management, transition from the older Papanui distribution centre, and the operations of the new Hornby Centre.

Carrefour with 3 awards from The LSA Innovation Awards ceremony held on 17 December 2014

Boulogne-Billancourt, France, 2014-12-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — The LSA Innovation Awards ceremony was held on 17 December 2014, as a unique opportunity for companies in the retail and consumer sector to showcase their various initiatives. Three awards were presented to Carrefour in recognition of its teams’ work alongside its partners, demonstrating that innovation is still – more than ever – central to everything that the Group does.

The Tex brand wins an award for its innovative communications campaign
Carrefour was recognised for the original and innovative advertising campaign that it launched for its 2014 spring / summer Tex collection. Carrefour wanted to give its customers a whole new shopping experience, and so the Group developed “My virtual look by Tex”, virtual fitting rooms in 6 stores throughout France in partnership with Clear Channel and a “Shazam ton spot TV pour trouver ton style” – the first Shazam TV campaign with a retail brand.

As Thierry Pelissier, Marketing and Communications Director for Carrefour France, explains,
“This campaign is evidence of our desire to use new technologies to innovate, surprise our customers and provide them with new fun and practical solutions”.

Carrefour products in the spotlight
The jury paid tribute to two designs from the Design Carrefour team.
The first one is a flexible ice-tray complete with a lid made of two different materials. It’s easy to fill, doesn’t run and individual ice cubes can be removed incredibly easily.

And the second is the “Smart Desk” – a folding desk specially designed for small areas. Featuring numerous storage tips, it folds up very easily so it can be stored flat under a bed or behind a wardrobe, meaning guaranteed space savings.

“On behalf of all of Carrefour’s design teams and our partners, we are very honoured to receive these Awards which pay tribute to our project to make design available to as many people as possible. Our aim is to create objects that are essential and clever… that are simple and beautiful while offering the best value for money so as to make our customers’ everyday lives easier”, says Philippe Picaud, Carrefour’s Design Director

Wyevale Voted Best Garden Centre By The BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine

The Wyevale Group is celebrating after being voted the ‘Best Nursery or Garden Centre’ in an online poll by the BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine.

The voting for the awards was open to members of the public and received thousands of nominations through the BBC Gardeners’ World website, making them a true reflection of people’s opinions. It is therefore particularly rewarding for the Wyevale garden centre group to be given the coveted title of ‘Best Nursery or Garden Centre’ as part of the inaugural Gardeners’ World Magazine awards.

The BBC launched their 2009 awards in March by inviting readers of the Gardeners’ World Magazine and users of the gardenersworld.com website to vote on categories including most loved and most hated plants and vegetables, the most common garden pest, the gadget they couldn’t live without, the best garden centre and best online garden centre/mail order supplier. The voting was opened to the public for a 3 month period in an effort to find out exactly what people liked and didn’t like about life in the garden. Overall more than 7,900 gardeners voted across a series of categories.

The Wyevale Group achieved success after being rated the best nursery on 5 separate indicators which covered: value for money, service, choice, quality and overall performance.

Nicholas Marshall, Chief Executive of Wyevale, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the title of Best Garden Centre in the Gardeners’ World Magazine’s online poll. It is a testament to how hard the staff work at all 122 garden centres in the group.

“We would like to thank all the garden centre teams and staff at Head Office for their hard work and commitment in helping us to win this top accolade.”

About The Gardening Club
Wyevale Garden Centres originated as a local nursery in Hereford in the 1930’s, when plants were sold bare-root by mail order only during the dormant season. Today, gardening is a wide ranging activity from real enthusiasts who grow specialist plants from seed to families for whom the garden is an outdoor room to decorate and furnish in their own style

The Gardening Club is a family of garden centres. The group stocks a wide range plants, tools, garden furniture, BBQs and machinery to suit every style of gardening. With over 120 garden centres nationwide and a website stocking over 2,000 gardening products there is something for every gardeners taste.
