Bartell Drugs opens its newest location in Ballard on November 19

SEATTLE, 2016-Nov-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — Showcasing new features for convenience and quality products, family-owned Bartell Drugs unveiled its newest location in Ballard on November 3.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Saturday, November 19 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The more than 14,200-square-foot store is the 65th location in the 125-year-old chain’s regional network and is being considered a signature store in the chain’s expansion into additional urban neighborhoods.

Located at the intersection of 22nd Avenue Northwest and Northwest 56th— just across from the Ballard Public Library—Bartells has been part of the Ballard neighborhood since around 1911.

“Bartell Drugs is proud of its long history in Ballard,” says Bartell President and CEO Brian Unmacht. “We’re excited to build on this tradition with our new store and to continue offering the convenience, service and outstanding lines of quality products—including our focus on local items—that has made Bartells a trusted retailer throughout the Northwest.”

This is our second store in this burgeoning area, along with our store at 15th and Market streets. Bartells is focusing on increasing its urban locations to better serve our guests in some of the denser neighborhoods in Seattle and on the Eastside.

The store’s full-service pharmacy offers a spacious waiting area and a wide range of healthcare options focused on convenience. Other store features include an expanded cosmetics section showcasing seasonal and on-trend colors, shades and products; a thirst-quenching growler fill spot called “Northwest on Tap” offering locally-crafted microbrews; and our tasty Fresh Food Fast Marketplace food section with a selection of fresh, locally made sandwiches.

Grand opening festivities take place Saturday, November 19 from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. There will be exclusive giveaways including exciting gift baskets, special offers at our growler fill bar, and other great deals throughout the store. Plus, the first 200 people through the door will receive a limited-edition Bartell Tumbler with a Bartell Drugs’ gift card inside, ranging from $5 to $500.

Store hours are 7:00 a.m.-midnight, seven days a week. Pharmacy hours are 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; Saturdays 9:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m. and Sundays 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Bartell Drugs is the oldest family-run drugstore chain in the U.S. and was started by pioneer pharmacist George H. Bartell in 1890. Since its origin in Seattle’s Central District, the chain has grown into regional mainstay through the Puget Sound area. Two new stores are slated to open in 2017 in the Greenlake neighborhood and another at Snoqualmie Ridge.

Bartell Drugs and Union Gospel Mission to distribute “flu kits” and free flu shot vouchers to the homeless on October 12

SEATTLE, 2016-Oct-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Bartell Drugs and Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission (UGM) have teamed to help protect the homeless and insecurely housed residents of the downtown core by distributing “flu kits” and vouchers for free flu immunizations.

Members of Bartell staff will join UGM’s Search and Rescue street team from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 to distribute these materials in Seattle downtown core, including the area known as “The Jungle” as well as the Chinatown-International district.

Many of us take for granted the small items we need when we have the cold or flu such as tissues, cough drops and pain relievers. But for community members that daily struggle with housing and other basic needs, these items can be nearly impossible to obtain. And affording flu shots can be even more challenging.

Along with each flu kit, Bartells is providing a voucher for a free flu vaccination at any one of our 65 locations in the Puget Sound area. By protecting all the residents of our region—especially those who may lack resources or opportunities—we are helping to protect everyone.

“As the oldest family-owned pharmacy in the United States, Bartell Drugs has been part of the Puget Sound community since 1890,” says President and CEO Brian Unmacht. “This means we have a deep connection to our neighborhoods as well as a responsibility to be a caring and convenient source of community health and wellness—especially individuals and families who may be struggling to meet basic needs.”

“We are excited by Bartells commitment to helping our community’s most vulnerable residents,” says Ralph Rowland, UGM’s vice president for community engagement. “By working with our night patrol street teams, we will be able to get needed items directly into the hands of those who need them, as well as the opportunity to further protect their health with the free flu vaccine vouchers.”

Both organizations hope to distribute more than 1,500 of the flu kits during this effort.

Bartell Drugs and Oberto partner to raise money to help kids in Seattle Children’s hospital

SEATTLE, 2016-Oct-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Nine-year-old Aiyana Lucas has heart. In fact, she’s had three hearts.

Aiyana was born with a severe heart defect which necessitated a heart transplant when she was only 6 months old. At age 8, congestive heart failure necessitated another transplant which was unsuccessful and so another transplant quickly followed.

Today, she’s an active, healthy 9 year old. And it’s all thanks to the talented team at Seattle Children’s.

To help support Aiyana and the thousands of other children in need of vital healthcare, Bartell Drugs and Kent-based Oberto Beef Jerky are joining forces to raise money for Seattle Children’s in support of its mission to prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric diseases.

This is the second year the locally-based, family-owned companies have joined forces to raise money for the nationally-acclaimed hospital. Last year, $24,500 was collected from the chain’s 64 Puget Sound locations.

During October, for each bag of Oberto Beef Jerky purchased at a Bartell location, a financial contribution will be made to the hospital – with a total expected up to $25,000.

The fundraising effort by the two family-owned companies reflects their long-time commitment to positively impact the lives of children and families living in the Puget Sound area.

“Oberto believes in making healthy and high quality snacks, but our mission is so much more. We pride ourselves on getting involved and serving our community,” said Thomas Hernquist, CEO of Oberto. “We want all children to be able to live a healthy and active life and we hope our donations to Seattle Children’s hospital will help this endeavor.”

“Regardless of a family’s ability to pay, Seattle Children’s delivers world-class care and is recognized as one of the top children’s hospitals in the U.S.,” said Bartell Drugs President and CEO Brian Unmacht. “This collaborative fundraising effort focuses on supporting the important healthcare role that Seattle Children’s plays in our region.”

To drive additional awareness, Bartell locations will have major in-store and print promotions as well as advertising.

In early November, executives from both companies will present the donation check to officials from Oberto.

SEATTLE, 2015-11-25 — /EPR Retail News/ — Bartell Drugs is once again partnering with the Salvation Army to provide holiday gifts for children in need by collecting new, unwrapped toys during its 12th annual Salvation Army “Toy ‘N Joy” drive, now through December 13.

The toy donations will be accepted at 61 Bartell Drugs locations in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Toys will be distributed to low-income children and youth the week before Christmas through the Salvation Army’s “toy warehouses.

Donation options include:

  • Choose a “gift request tag” from the “Toy ‘N’ Joy” display in the store and return the gift to the donation barrel with the tag affixed to it.
