CarMax Foundation announces $5 million partnership with KaBOOM! to build playgrounds nationwide

CarMax is the first KaBOOM! corporate sponsor to serve military communities, partnership to kick off today with playground builds in El Cajon, CA and Fort Worth, TX

RICHMOND, VA, 2016-Apr-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, announces today the launch of a new, $5 million partnership with KaBOOM!. The CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most, have successfully provided 100,000 kids across the nation with access to play. This partnership aims to triple their impact by reaching a total of 300,000 children by the end of 2018. To celebrate the official coast-to-coast launch of the partnership, more than 400 volunteers will simultaneously build two new playgrounds today, April 7, in El Cajon, Calif. and Fort Worth, TX.

CarMax and KaBOOM! will provide grants to fund building or improving 79 play spaces by the end of 2018, bringing play to those most in need. In addition, CarMax is the first KaBOOM! corporate sponsor bringing play spaces to our military and veteran families over the next three years while also providing them with community support and career opportunities.

This partnership will have three distinct areas of impact. First, 33 nationwide community-built playgrounds will be designed by children and built by volunteers from local partners and thousands of CarMax associates.

Second, a donation of 34 Imagination Playgrounds and 12 Rigamajigs will be made to select partner organizations. Lastly, four of these playgrounds and 12 Rigamajigs will be built in military communities and 18 of the Imagination Playgrounds will be donated to military serving non-profits over the next three years.

The CarMax Foundation focuses nationally on children’s healthy living. This focus is directed by CarMax associates who have expressed a desire to help youth in their communities get moving to live happier, healthier lives.

CarMax announced expanded relationship with the Denver Broncos

The partnership includes extensive branding presence within Sports Authority Field at Mile High as well as media, digital and social elements.

Last year, The CarMax Foundation and the Broncos worked together to build a playground at the Rocky Mountain Communities at Garden Court to help bring more than 400 kids in the Denver neighborhood one step closer to having the playful childhood they deserve. On Sept 22, the Broncos will join The CarMax Foundation to build a second KaBOOM! playground to replace 20-year-old play structures at the Tennyson Center for Children, bringing a safe place to play for kids who are survivors of abuse or neglect, or have significant mental health or developmental issues.

CarMax opens 15,000 square-feet store in Warwick, its first in Rhode Island

Company Celebrates with Community Donations

RICHMOND, Virginia, 2015-6-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — CarMax (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, officially opened its first store in Rhode Island located at 153 Bald Hill Road in Warwick. The store is more than 15,000 square-feet, occupies more than 8 acres and stocks more than 300 used vehicles.

“We are excited that our growth has allowed us to bring the CarMax experience to the state of Rhode Island,” said Tom Folliard, president and CEO of CarMax. “Our team can’t wait to help local residents find their perfect vehicle.”

In celebration of the Warwick store opening, CarMax donated $5,000 to the YMCA of Cranston. The nonprofit was selected by local associates for its positive impact on the community by providing programs that help families and individuals seeking healthy lifestyles and wellness.

The CarMax Foundation also is providing a $10,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Warwick. This grant will support the Norwood Branch’s Keystone Club, a character and leadership program for teens focusing on academic success, career preparation and community service. The CarMax Foundation has granted more than $25 million on behalf of associates across the country since 2003. In addition to the grant, 30 CarMax associates volunteered at the club where they repainted hallways and restrooms as the first of many future volunteer activities in the community.
