PetSmart to carry TurboPUP innovative portable meal bars for dogs in stores across the U.S. and Canada

PetSmart Is Initial Exclusive Retailer of TurboPUP Meal Bars, an All-Natural, Complete Meal-on-the-Go for Dogs

PHOENIX, 2016-Feb-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — Last Friday, Kristina Guerrero, founder of TurboPUP, impressed the sharks on ABC’s Shark Tank with the news of her exclusive, national retail deal with PetSmart. The specialty pet store will carry her TurboPUP innovative portable meal bars for dogs in more than 900 PetSmart stores across the U.S. and Canada this year.

Guerrero’s big idea for a lightweight canine meal replacement bar was sparked by a backcountry ski trip with her dog Dunkan five years ago. Realizing he was as hungry as she was, she fed him her own provision even though she knew the food was lacking in proper canine nutrition. The experience fueled her quest to find suitable travel food for Dunkan, but she came up empty handed and decided to create TurboPUP – a premium, compact and “Complete K9 Meal Bar” to help sustain a dog’s energy level.

Guerrero headed to the kitchen, and with the help of her food-scientist husband, found the perfect recipe using grain-free, all-natural, human-grade ingredients. TurboPUP bars are a complete meal replacement solution and formulated with essential vitamins and nutrients dogs require in every stage of life.

“Kristina’s entrepreneurial spirit and hard work creating TurboPUP is the true definition of innovation,” said Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer at PetSmart. “We love pets and know they make us better people, and we always want to deliver new solutions to help pet parents take better care of their pets, as well as to support the range of pet lifestyles out there. So many people are now always on-the-go with their pups, and TurboPUP bars are the ideal portable food solution for those weekend warriors out with their dogs whether camping, hiking or spending a day at the dog park or mall.”

TurboPUP meal bars are manufactured at a facility in Oregon and use American-sourced, human-grade ingredients. These all-natural, high-protein and grain-free bars are perfect for pet parents who get out with their dogs. The compact, lightweight meal bars come in two canine-favorite flavors: peanut butter and bacon.

“I’m thrilled TurboPUP is going to be in PetSmart stores. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to offer TurboPUP bars to dog owners and dogs across the country,” said Guerrero, TurboPUP Founder and CEO.

Guerrero, a decorated U.S. Air Force Veteran, first appeared on Shark Tank in Jan. of 2015 where she walked away with a $100,000 investment from Shark Tank’s Daymond John. The funds helped her kick-start TurboPUP with manufacturing, distribution and expansion plans for the TurboPUP line.

PetSmart is the largest pet specialty retailer for services and solutions that address the lifetime needs of pets, and is dedicated to product innovation, often premiering the latest pet lifestyle products in its stores. Debuting the TurboPUP product is a natural fit, and the bars can now be found at PetSmart stores and petsmart.com through April 2016.

PetSmart launches New Puppy program

PetSmart® Celebrates New Puppy Program in Stores with Comprehensive Product Collection, Events and New Puppy Guide for Pet Parents

PHOENIX, 2016-Feb-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — Plenty of people welcomed a new pet this past holiday season, delivering a cherished and happy memory for the whole family. According to an online survey for PetSmart by Toluna conducted Dec. 29 – 31, 2015, many people welcomed a furry family member with more than 80 percent given the actual dog specially wrapped up or in person, and for about half of those families the new arrival was truly a new arrival – a puppy under one year old.

PetSmart is providing additional support to help new puppy parents manage the transition with its New Puppy program running now through April in stores nationwide and online at petsmart.com/puppy.

“While consideration should be given to make sure receivers of pets as gifts are prepared for the responsibility, puppies were popular arrivals at homes across America this past holiday season,” said Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer, PetSmart. “And our New Puppy program is here to help, featuring trusted advice, a comprehensive New Puppy collection and national in-store Puppy Events, which will run in our stores Feb. 20 with education on nutrition, grooming, training and more.”

Dr. Kemba Marshall, DVM, PetSmart’s resident veterinarian and pet care expert, offers important basic tips for new puppy parents:

  • ID Your Pup. Get a collar that is comfortable for your new puppy and for large-breed puppies that will grow fast, check the collar sizing regularly to ensure it’s not getting too tight. Tagworks® ID tag systems in PetSmart stores are easy and provide plenty of room on the tag for the proper information. Make sure you put the dog’s name and two phone numbers at which you, the pet parent, can be easily reached.
  • Puppy Proof! Puppies are teething and they love to chew – on everything from shoes and rugs to electrical cords and plants. Puppy proof the house by removing items at the puppy level. Keep shoes, clothing and handbags off the ground and raise houseplants out of the puppy’s reach. Get some great chew toys, like the Nylabone Puppy Bone Starter Kit, to keep your puppy actively chewing on the right stuff, what puppy experts call “positive chewing,” which puppies need to learn. There are even calming toys, like the SENTRY® Bear Dog Toy, with pheromones similar to those emitted by the pup’s mother that help reduce anxiety.
  • Remove All Toxins. Puppies are curious and they get into everything and some common household items can be toxic – like laundry detergent, cleaners and the contents in our kitchen trash bin. Keep all these items locked away and out of a puppy’s reach.
  • Vaccinate. Before you step out on a puppy play date, make sure your puppy has all their vaccinations to protect them from contagious diseases.
  • Socialize. When socializing your puppy to other dogs and people, be selective and invite just one or two trusted, safe dogs to your home to meet your new pup for the first time.
  • Practice Proper Nutrition. Puppy-specific food is crucial as it serves a puppy’s special dietary needs. Develop a proper feeding schedule, as puppies eat more often than adult dogs, which tend to have feeding schedules twice a day: morning and night. Talk to a vet about the feeding schedule that’s right for your specific breed of puppy.
  • Consider Crate Training. Dogs need their own safe place – like a den – and a crate can serve that purpose. They can feel relaxed and safe in their crate and they instinctively keep their crate, or den, clean, aiding in potty training. Sizing the crate to your puppy is important – it shouldn’t be too large.
  • Establish Routines and Schedules. Training a puppy is all about a routine so have your family get on a schedule with your puppy. From walks to feeding, naps and crate time, a routine will serve you and your family well.

PetSmart also offers its New Puppy Guide for $20 with $250 in offers on all the essentials a new puppy parent needs from crates, feeding bowls and chew toys to free bags of food and free services like the puppy’s first bath and vet consultation. 20,000 dogs and cats found forever homes through PetSmart’s National Adoption Week initiative in September

Annual Adoption Effort up 12 Percent, On Track to Help Find Forever Homes for Nearly Half a Million Pets in 2015

PHOENIX, 2015-10-7 — /EPR Retail News/ — Through its National Adoption Week initiatives in 2015, PetSmart said it is expecting to help save the lives of nearly 500,000 pets in 2015 and that its Sept. week-long event resulted in more than 20,000 dogs and cats finding their forever homes.

Pet adoption is fun, enriching and most importantly, lifesaving. Each year about seven million pets enter shelters across North America and some three million healthy, adoptable pets are euthanized. To help, PetSmart teams up with PetSmart Charities and thousands of local animal welfare organizations and shelters to run National Adoption Weeks, which have proven to be one of the most effective ways to save pets’ lives. With a combined focus on adoption, six million pets have found homes since 1994.

“Together with PetSmart Charities, we are proud to collaborate with shelter partners in communities throughout North America in our mission to end pet homelessness,” said Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer, PetSmart. “We are thrilled by the ongoing success of our National Adoption Week events and are tremendously proud of our role in this important
cause — for every minute a PetSmart store is open, a pet is adopted, with more than 1,000 pets adopted per day through our store chain.”

PetSmart also helps pet parents in the transition when adopting a new pet by offering its free Adoption Starter Kit. The kit is a gift to pet parents who adopt because they have given a great gift as well – a home to a homeless pet. The kit is offered every day at stores to people who have adopted a pet whether at PetSmart or elsewhere. New pet parents simply show their adoption papers to receive the Adoption Starter Kit, which features tips for caring for a new cat or dog and a range of coupons valued at $400 in savings. The coupons cover everything a new pet parent needs including items like beds, bowls, collars and leashes, as well as free one-time services such as a veterinarian visit, training, PetsHotel® boarding and Doggie Day Camp™ and a free bag of dog or cat food under the brands Simply Nourish™, Authority® or Good Natured™. These pet food brands also give back by donating more than 200 tons of food every year to help pets in need.
