Kroger’s QFC partners with Instacart to bring home delivery service in Puget Sound and Portland

CINCINNATI and BELLEVUE, Wash., 2017-Dec-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — QFC, a division of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), today (12/4/2017) announced it is offering home delivery at a majority of its stores in both Puget Sound and Portland, through a partnership with Instacart, a nationally-recognized on-demand retail delivery service. The partnership supports two key drivers of the company’s Restock Kroger Plan: Expand Partnerships to Create Customer Value and Redefine the Food and Grocery Customer Experience.

“By offering home delivery in addition to in-store shopping and online ordering for curbside pickup, we are listening to our customers who are telling us they want the convenience of shopping anyway they choose,” said Suzy Monford, president of QFC. “We know that our customers are busier than ever but still want to feed their families fresh, healthy foods that are available at low prices. This new partnership allows our customers to have their groceries delivered to their doorsteps as soon as two hours after placing an order.”

QFC delivery powered by Instacart will be offered in addition to its ClickList store locations that offer online ordering for curbside pickup.

“Instacart customers prefer doing their online grocery shopping from local stores, where they know the products,” said Andrew Nodes, Vice President, Retail Accounts for Instacart. “We are thrilled to partner with QFC to give our customers in Portland and Seattle a new convenient option for shopping at their favorite local QFC store.”

How does QFC home delivery work?
Customers place their orders through the “Delivery” link at www.qfc.com. The customer enters the zip code where the delivery will be scheduled then chooses from 40,000 offered products, including perishables, which are categorized and sorted for easy viewing and selection. The customer builds a digital cart by clicking and adding products. Once the customer has completed building the online basket, a preferred delivery time between 9 a.m. and midnight can be selected. An Instacart shopper then hand-picks the items and delivers the order within a preferred one-hour time window. The home delivery fee will be waived for first-time customers.

Smart & Final and Instacart first joined forces to bring same-day grocery delivery to customers in March 2015. Based on the strong, consistent results – including 15 times sales growth since that initial collaboration – Smart & Final is doubling down on the partnership, giving customers the option to pair the club store’s everyday low prices and farmer’s market freshness as experienced in-store with the added convenience of delivery straight to customers’ doorsteps.

“There’s no question that there is an increasing emphasis on online ordering and delivery in the grocery space, as today’s customer wants and deserves convenience,” said Eleanor Hong, Smart & Final’s Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer. “Today, over half of our 253 Smart & Final stores offer delivery, both for household and business customers, and we continue to expand that reach as far as our partners at Instacart can offer it. We’re enthusiastic about delivery, and through our new e-commerce site Powered by Instacart, we can give our online customers a platform to search, explore and order delivery directly from Smart & Final.”

Smart & Final customers across Arizona, California and Nevada can now visit shop.smartandfinal.com to fill their virtual carts with all their favorite items, from farmer’s market fresh produce and quality meats to club-size essentials, and have them delivered same-day, often in as little as an hour. Customers who place orders on the Smart & Final Powered by Instacart site will enjoy the same great everyday low prices that they enjoy when shopping in person, while getting back something truly valuable: time.

“Part of Instacart’s mission to partner with the best retailers across the nation is the commitment to provide them with the best e-commerce experience,” said Nilam Ganenthiran, Instacart’s Chief Business Officer. “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with a premier quality brand like Smart & Final and continue the success we are seeing with value grocers on the Instacart platform.”

Whole Foods Market and Instacart make traditional floral delivery convenient and affordable this Mother’s Day

Whole Trade® flowers delivered in as little as one hour, combined with gifts curated by experts at America’s Healthiest Grocery Store®

AUSTIN, Texas, 2015-5-1 — /EPR Retail News/ — An estimated 54 million American households will purchase flowers or plants for Mother’s Day* so Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFM) and Instacart are making it more convenient by delivering flowers in as little as one hour across 15 major US metros, along with a selection of thoughtful gifts for moms. Through an exclusive partnership, the two companies are offering a more convenient and affordable alternative to traditional floral delivery, including blooms that have higher standards like Whole Trade® or Responsibly Grown ratings.

Between May 1 and 10, customers can log onto Instacart.com or the Instacart mobile app on iOS or Android devices and choose from two Whole Foods Market bouquet options, then use the “notes” feature to specify their preferred color** and what they would like to say on a handwritten card. Customers can also choose a delivery window of within one hour, within two hours or at a scheduled time. Orders can be placed up to six days in advance.

The bouquet options available on Instacart from Whole Foods Market are a dozen Whole Trade® roses in assorted colors for $29.99, or 20-stem tulips in various colors for $24.99. Delivery fees start at $3.99, but are free for first-time Instacart users. Each bouquet will come wrapped in festive paper.

Unlike traditional floral-only delivery options, customers can use Instacart’s Mother’s Day “aisle”  to also purchase teas, chocolates, candles, body care items or even ingredients to cook mom breakfast, all curated by Whole Foods Market experts and available for delivery with the bouquet. Instacart’s database of recipes from Whole Foods Market recipes come with automated shopping lists to add ingredients to the online cart.

In addition to added convenience, this partnership offers customers responsibly sourced floral choices. All rose bouquets are backed by Whole Foods Market’s Whole Trade Guarantee, a certification-partnership program that helps ensure better wages and working conditions for farm workers, fair prices to producers and supports community improvement programs in areas where the roses are produced. Most roses and tulips** offered are rated under Whole Foods Market’s new Responsibly Grown program, which means they come from farms that are taking major steps to protect human health and the environment.

“After seeing how much customers loved our Valentine’s Day floral delivery with Instacart, we’re now excited to offer a convenient, affordable way to celebrate moms everywhere with Whole Trade flowers that give back to women and communities around the globe,” said David Lannon, executive vice president of operations for Whole Foods Market. “In keeping with our mission to delight shoppers, we also think customers will love ordering with Instacart’s automated shopping lists for brunch recipes, or finding mom a new favorite candle, all in a format that fits their schedule.”

“Creative, value-driven solutions like this are a perfect example of how Instacart and Whole Foods Market work together to serve our customers with convenience and quality,” said Apoorva Mehta, CEO and founder of Instacart. “It’s rewarding to see how our technology combined with Whole Foods Market’s great product selection can make it easier to create memories with mom.”

Instacart delivery from Whole Foods Market is currently available in stores across 15 markets: Atlanta; Austin; Boulder; Boston; Chicago; Denver; Houston; Los Angeles; New York City; Philadelphia; Portland, OR; San Francisco; San Jose; Seattle and Washington, DC.
*According to Prince & Prince, Inc., a market research group for the floral and green plant industry, as published in Perishable News
** Flower colors are subject to availability on the day of delivery.
*** The Responsibly Grown program is still rolling out across Whole Food Market stores nationwide. While all flowers are not yet rated, shoppers will find plenty of “GOOD”, “BETTER” or “BEST” rated options to choose from.
