Tesco own-label wines win 99 medals at the International Wine Challenge

 

Welwyn Garden City, UK, 2017-Dec-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Tesco own-label wines have been awarded 99 medals by the industry leading International Wine Challenge.

Beating the competition, the retailer scooped two golds for the Tesco finest* Premier Cru Chablis and Tesco finest* Vintage Port, 31 silver and 28 bronze medals.

Over 80% of the wines entered by the team picked up a medal.

Following the announcement of the results, Rob Cooke, Category Director for Beer, Wine & Spirits commented:

Tesco won 64 awards for its own-label range at the International Wine Challenge

 

CHESHUNT, England, 2016-Dec-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — Tesco has struck gold this Christmas at the UK’s biggest wine competition, scooping an impressive 64 awards for its own-label range at the International Wine Challenge.

Topping the leaderboard of winning wines are some of the nation’s favourite festive tipples including 2009 finest* Vintage Champagne Grand Cru, finest* 10 year Old Tawny Port, finest* Vintage Port, finest* Chablis Premier Cru and finest* Dessert Semillon.

Altogether Tesco took away gongs for 64 of its wines (including 3 Gold, 11 Silver and 17 Bronze medals) in this round of the wine competition, which releases results twice yearly.  This takes the supermarket’s total IWC award tally to 107 in 2016

Tesco scooped 107 gongs at the International Wine Challenge

CHESHUNT, England, 2016-May-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — Tesco has been awarded over 100 medals for its own-label wine range for the second year running.

The retailer scooped an impressive 107 gongs at the International Wine Challenge including 2 Gold, 20 Silver and 28 Bronze medals. Over 80% of the wines Tesco entered into the awards picked up a medal.

Jason Tarry, Chief Product Officer at Tesco, said:

“We’re delighted with our performance at the International Wine Challenge and I am incredibly proud of the teams’ success. The over 100 awards we have been awarded this year is testament to the hard work we have done to simplify our range, whilst offering customers great quality world-class wines at affordable prices.”

France was the front-running country receiving 26% of medals awarded. Italy and Spain followed close behind receiving 23% and 14% of the total respectively.

Tesco wins over 70 medals at the International Wine Challenge

CHESHUNT, England, 2015-12-3 — /EPR Retail News/ — Tesco has amassed over 70 medals at ‘The Oscars’ of the wine industry- the International Wine Challenge.  Wines costing as little as £4, received accolades from a panel of independent drinks experts from around the world, who blind taste the wines to ensure fairness and impartiality.

An impressive 93 per cent of the retailer’s wines that were awarded gongs were from its own label wine range. Meaning customers will be able to pick up a critically acclaimed wine for Christmas with the finest* Sancerre and the finest* Dessert Semillon both receiving the highest accolade- a Gold Medal. Tesco also received 9 Silver, 22 Bronze and 41 Commended medals.

James Davis, Tesco’s Master of Wine said: “We’ve been working hard to help customers find fantastic tasting, great quality wine at truly affordable prices. With wines like the Tesco Vineyards Côtes du Rhône and Vineyards Chile Merlot, which are available from as little as £4 receiving a nod, we are proving that exceptional awarding winning wines don’t have to be at massive prices.”

For the last three years, Tesco has been named ‘Own Label Range of the Year’ by the International Wine Challenge. This is the first set of the 2016 medal results for the annual IWC wine awards, the second release will be announced in May. Other wines to receive an award include Silver medals for the £13 Pol Aimé Brut Champagne the Tesco Orvieto Classico 2014 (£5.25) and a bronze medal for the best-selling Wairau Cove Sauvignon Blanc 2015 (£6.50).
