Meijer holds its signature hunger relief program Simply Give; will match spring campaign donations 2-to-1 April 17-18

Retailer matches spring campaign donations 2-to-1 April 17-18 to help food pantries gear up for summer months.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Meijer holds its signature hunger relief program, Simply Give, three times a year when its food pantry partners need the most help, but the spring campaign is arguably the most critical campaign.

“The spring Simply Give campaign is responsible for helping our food pantry partners prepare for the uptick in clients they see in the summer when federal school lunch programs are not available to children,” Co-Chairman Hank Meijer said. “The Simply Give program has helped fill a void in the communities we serve thanks to the continued support and generosity of our customers, team members and pantry partners.”

To help those food pantries gear up for the summer months, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer will stretch every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation further April 17-18. That means for every $10 donation card purchase, Meijer will contribute $20, resulting in a total $30 donation.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, 19.5 percent of all households with children nationwide were food insecure in 2013. Additionally, food-insecure children in about 70 percent of low-income homes in 2010-11 received free or reduced-price school meals, which is the most recent data available.

Meijer began its Simply Give program in November 2008 as a way to help restock the shelves of local food pantries throughout the Midwest. Since then, the program has generated nearly $14 million for those food pantry partners to distribute to hungry families. And, more importantly, those meals stay local, said Janet Emerson, executive vice president of retail operations for Meijer.

“We know how important it is to our customers that their generous donations remain in their local communities,” Emerson said. “That’s why each of our stores partner with a local food pantry during the Simply Give campaign.”

During each Simply Give campaign, customers are encouraged to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards that are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to the food pantry selected by the store. The Simply Giveprogram runs three times a year; the spring campaign will run through May 11.

Customers will have an opportunity for Meijer to double match their donations April 17-18.

Customers can find Simply Give donation cards on fixtures near the checkout, and grocery and pharmacy departments.

Meijer to double match every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation made Nov. 14-15 to restock the shelves of its food pantries for the holiday season

Retailer’s double match turns a $10 donation into $30 program from Nov. 14-15

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich, 2014-11-12— /EPR Retail News/ — Meijer will double match every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation made Nov. 14-15 in an effort to restock the shelves of its food pantries in time for the holiday season.

Although the holiday campaign runs through Jan. 3, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer plans to distribute a first installment donation to each of its participating food pantries before the holidays begin so the families they serve have the food they need.

“We are very appreciative of the generosity our customers and team members have shown this year, and we are looking forward to partnering with them again during the holiday Simply Give campaign to help feed our hungry neighbors,” Co-Chairman Hank Meijer said. “Hunger is a problem that continues to increase in all of our communities, and no one deserves to go without.”

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer began its Simply Give program in November 2008 as a way to help local food pantries throughout the Midwest achieve their missions of feeding hungry families. Since then, the program has generated nearly $12 million for those partners to restock their shelves and feed hungry families.

But, more importantly, those donations stay local, said Janet Emerson, executive vice president of retail operations for Meijer.

“We know how important it is to our customers that their generous donations remain in their local communities,” Emerson said. “That’s why each of our stores partner with a local food pantry during the Simply Give campaigns.”

During each Simply Give campaign, customers are encouraged to purchase $10 Meijer Food Pantry Donation Cards that are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to the food pantry selected by the store. The holiday campaign will run through Jan. 3.

Simply Give Double Match Days held Nov. 14-15 will stretch those donations even further: For every $10 donation card purchase, Meijer will give $20 to the program, resulting in a total $30 donation.

Customers can find the donation cards on fixtures near the checkout; they will also be near the Meijer Taste of the Holidays in-store sampling stations Nov. 15.

The Meijer Simply Give fall campaign generated more than $2.6 million for food pantries throughout the Midwest

Retailer’s hunger relief campaign generated more than $2.6 million for local food pantries

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2014-10-20— /EPR Retail News/ — The Meijer Simply Give campaign held this fall generated more than $2.6 million for food pantries throughout the Midwest – an amount that nearly doubled the generous donations received from its previous record-breaking season earlier this year.

Meijer customers donated more than $726,000 during the fall Simply Give campaign that began in early August during the inaugural Meijer LPGA Classic presented by Kraft. That commitment to supporting hungry families, combined with a donation from Meijer, raised the fall campaign total to more than $2.6 million, making it the most successful campaign since Simply Give began in November 2008.

“We cannot thank our customers, team members and food pantry partners enough for continuing to rise to the challenge and help us feed hungry families in the communities we serve,” Co-Chairman Hank Meijer said. “It’s inspiring to see this level of engagement.”

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer began its Simply Give program as a way to help local food pantries throughout the Midwest achieve their mission of feeding hungry families.

Thanks to the fall campaign that ended in late September, Simply Give has generated nearly $12 million for those partners to restock their shelves and feed hungry families. That total includes an estimated $600,000 donation from theMeijer LPGA Classic to the Simply Give program.

But, more importantly, those donations stay local, said Janet Emerson, executive vice president of retail operations for Meijer.

“We know how important it is to our customers that their generous donations remain local,” Emerson said. “That’s why each of our stores partner with a food pantry in their community during the Simply Give campaigns.”

During each Simply Give program, which runs three times a year, customers are encouraged to purchase a $10 Simply Give donation card upon checkout. Once purchased, the donation is converted into a Meijer Food-Only Gift Card and donated directly to the local food pantry selected by the store.

“Hunger is a problem that continues to increase in all of our communities,” Hank Meijer said. “The Simply Give program gives everyone a chance to work toward ensuring no one has to live without food.”
