Kohl’s released its 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., 2017-Apr-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) released its 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, outlining the strides the company has made to fulfill its purpose to inspire and empower families to lead fulfilled lives. Through continued action that positively impacts the community, its more than 140,000 associates and the environment, Kohl’s is making a difference for families today and for generations to come.

Taking Care of Our Communities
Kohl’s is passionate about creating stronger, healthier communities where customers and associates live, work and play. In 2016, Kohl’s and Kohl’s Cares gave more than $51 million to support the causes that matter to associates and customers in communities across the country.

  • Kohl’s Volunteer Program: Associate volunteer efforts resulted in approximately $24 million in grants to nonprofit organizations nationwide – the highest giving total in the program’s history. From New York City to Milpitas, Calif., and countless cities in between, Kohl’s associates volunteered nearly half a million hours of their time to benefit more than 9,000 nonprofits nationwide.
  • Kohl’s Cares Cause Merchandise: With favorite collections like Clifford the Big Red Dog and Curious George, the Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program, features kid friendly merchandise customers love and can feel good about – because 100 percent of the net profit benefits youth-focused causes. To date, Kohl’s has raised more than $317 million through the program, including nearly $23 million in 2016.
  • Kohl’s Cares Hospital Partner Program: As part of our commitment to children’s health, Kohl’s donated more than $14 million to hospital partners in communities from coast to coast to create local outreach programs such as injury prevention and healthy eating.

Supporting Our Associates
Kohl’s has a deep responsibility to its associates and is focused on creating a culture of appreciation, inclusion transparency and engagement. Associates are empowered to bring their authentic selves to work each day, enhancing the richness of experiences, perspectives, thoughts and ideas, while fostering engagement and innovation

  • Associate Wellness Centers: In 2016, Kohl’s more than doubled the number of on-site Wellness Centers for associates, expanding to 13 locations from six, with more on the way. The centers, staffed by a range of medical professionals, support overall well-being and offer associates and their families access to health care services tailored to their specific needs.
  • Recognizing Greatness: Kohl’s associates are encouraged to celebrate successes, both big and small, from everyday contributions to major achievements, and important personal life events. Kohl’s online and mobile tool enabled associates to send more than 500,000 e-recognitions to their colleagues.
  • Town Halls with Kevin Mansell: Associates across the company had the opportunity to connect with and ask questions of Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, chief executive officer and president, in his Town Hall meetings. Associates heard directly from Mansell on topics ranging from benefits to company strategy, industry trends, and requests for career and leadership advice.
  • Business Resource Groups: Kohl’s Business Resource Groups (BRGs) help associates achieve professional and personal success while furthering business objectives and maximizing engagement. In 2016, the Millennial, Hispanic Professionals, Veterans and #PrideAtKohls BRGs led activities, including, an increase in Veteran hiring and the launch of a pilot program to offer new gift cards to Hispanic shoppers, among other efforts.

Leaving a Smaller Footprint
Kohl’s is committed to protecting and conserving the environment by seeking solutions that encourage long-term sustainability. The steps Kohl’s takes – both big and small – ensures the environment is preserved for the families of tomorrow.

  • 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award: Kohl’s has been recognized with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award, marking the sixth consecutive recognition for the company’s continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements.
  • Solar Arrays: Kohl’s encourages the use of renewable and more sustainable sources of energy. With 163 solar arrays at locations across the country, Kohl’s is one of the largest hosts of solar electricity in North America.
  • Plastic Bag Recycling: In an effort to reduce waste, Kohl’s reuses and recycles materials whenever possible. Last year alone, the company recycled more than 7 million pounds of plastic. Kohl’s shopping bags are also made out of recycled plastic – resulting in the signature gray colored bag customers receive when they shop the store.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: Customers and associates with electric vehicles can charge their vehicle for free via charging units at 90 Kohl’s locations nationwide. Interested individuals can simply pick up a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card at the customer service desk and charge while they shop.

Kohl’s announces donation of $10 million in grants to nonprofits following 15th anniversary of its associate volunteer program

Associates donate nearly 115,000 service hours in October to celebrate 15th anniversary of Kohl’s volunteer program

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis, 2016-Nov-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — Today ( November 15, 2016), during a town hall meeting with associates from across the country, Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, chief executive officer and president, announced a donation of more than $10 million in grants to nonprofits following a month-long volunteer challenge celebrating the 15th anniversary of Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) associate volunteer program. Throughout October, thousands of Kohl’s associates donated their time to take part in a record-breaking number of volunteer events, spending more than 115, 000 hours serving communities nationwide.

“Kohl’s purpose is to empower and inspire families to lead fulfilled lives and our associates live and act on this mission every day. We are committed to service both in our stores and in the community, which is why we started Kohl’s volunteer program 15 years ago,” said Mansell. “We know our associates are passionate about giving back to organizations that matter to them. Our volunteer results surpassed our expectations and we are proud of the Kohl’s associates who made it all happen.”

During the month of October, Kohl’s associates volunteered for nearly 8,000 events, an average of more than 250 events per day, to support a variety of nonprofit organizations, including:
• Remodeling kennels for an organization that provides veterans with service dogs in Flemington, N.J.
• Participating in a volunteer event per day for the entire month of October in St. Marys, Ohio
• Holding beach clean-ups and garbage collection in and around local waterways in West Melbourne, Fla.
• Hosting a Halloween party at a residential childcare facility with 150 associates from 27 stores in Northern Illinois
• Assembling blankets for an organization that distributes them to critically ill children in McKinney, Texas
• Planting trees at a local park to create more green space in Kansas City, Kan.
• Aiding an annual race supporting the fight against cancer in San Diego, Calif.
• Partnering with an organization to build a home for a local family in Billings, Mont.
• Assisting with animal adoption clinics for homeless pets in Anchorage, Alaska
• Sorting nearly 24,000 pounds of food for those in need in Milwaukee, Wis.

Kohl’s Department Stores appoints Sona Chawla Chief Operating Officer

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., 2015-11-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Kohl’s Department Stores (NYSE: KSS) today announced the appointment of Sona Chawla to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer, reporting directly to Kohl’s chairman, chief executive officer and president Kevin Mansell.

Chawla, who will join Kohl’s onNovember 30, will have leadership responsibility for Kohl’s full omnichannel operations. She will oversee all store operations, logistics and supply chain network, information and digital technology, e-commerce strategy, planning and operations, and store construction and design.

“The search for this role has been exhaustive and dynamic,” said Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, chief executive officer and president. “As our future vision for Kohl’s developed under our Greatness Agenda, the search for this role dramatically evolved. Prior to joining Kohl’s, Chawla spent seven years with Walgreens in a variety of senior leadership roles including president of e-commerce. Most recently, Chawla was president of digital and chief marketing officer. During her tenure with Walgreens, Chawla led a team responsible for developing industry-leading digital innovations that significantly enhanced core aspects of the company’s customer experience such as refilling prescriptions in seconds, printing photos from smartphones directly to stores, enabling seamless shopping through the integration of their loyalty program, coupons and mobile payments in store and launching digital health coaching and telehealth. Prior to joiningWalgreens, she was vice president of global online business at Dell, Inc. Before Dell, she worked at Wells Fargo’s Internet Services Group, where she held several roles including executive vice president of online sales, service and marketing. Chawla also worked at Andersen Consulting and Mitchell Madison Group.

Kohl’s unveils omnichannel and digital initiatives to support its commitment to delivering an easy shopping experience

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., 2015-9-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) today announced omnichannel and digital initiatives to support its commitment to delivering an easy shopping experience. Whether shopping in-store at Kohl’s stores nationwide, online at Kohls.com or at home or on the go on mobile devices, Kohl’s customers will discover new shopping tools including a store mode for Kohl’s mobile app, enhanced mobile payment options like Apple Pay, a seamless omnichannel shopping bag across platforms and Visa Checkout on Kohls.com and on mobile. Kohl’s will also pilot same-day delivery in select markets.

“Kohl’s is committed to providing our customers with an easy, convenient shopping experience in a way that is personalized and engaging – no matter how each customer prefers to shop,” said Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, chief executive officer and president. “Our digital teams are continually testing new ideas and capabilities to create a world-class omnichannel experience that is seamless across devices. With each evolution, we aim to elevate our offerings for an easy, inspiring shopping experience.”

New digital enhancements that shoppers will see in store include:

  • Store Mode for Kohl’s Mobile App: A new store mode for Kohl’s mobile app will provide a more personalized experience and help customers take advantage of Kohl’s incredible savings every time they shop in-store. Customers can opt-in to store mode in the Kohl’s app to search store inventory and find in-store promotions that can be applied to their purchase, like Kohl’s Cash and percent off coupons.
  • Enhanced Mobile Payment Options: Beginning this fall, Kohl’s customers will have a new easy, secure and private way to pay in stores with the rollout of Apple Pay, as well as the ability to use Apple Pay within the Kohl’s app. Kohl’s customers will also be able to add their Kohl’s Charge card as a form of payment within Apple Pay. Kohl’s customers will be able to complete purchases easily, quickly and securely across all digital channels with Visa Checkout, which will be available on Kohls.com and mobile devices. Also new this fall, Kohl’s mobile app will feature enhancements to Kohl’s world-class mobile wallet including the option to scan and save Kohl’s gift cards and direct delivery of promotional codes. Customers can continue to browse and shop by category, easily manage and redeem their Yes2You Rewards points and conveniently scan their Kohl’s Cash and savings offers to their mobile wallet to be used in-store at checkout.

Customers will also experience an even more seamless experience between shopping online and shopping in Kohl’s stores, including:

  • Omnichannel Shopping Bag: Kohl’s has bridged its digital shopping carts into one virtual shopping bag that can be accessed via smart phone, tablet or desktop. When shopping across devices, customers’ shopping bags will be automatically updated when they log into their Kohl’s account.
  • Buy Online, Pick Up in Store Across All Channels: Beginning in late September, customers will be able use their smart phone or tablet to opt to buy items online and pick them up in a Kohl’s store that is convenient to them. The option to buy online and pick up in Kohl’s stores nationwide was previously available on desktop and laptop as part of a nationwide rollout earlier this spring.
  • Redesigned Mobile Kohls.com Site and Tablet App: For those who shop Kohls.com on their smart phone browser, Kohl’s will launch a redesigned Kohls.com mobile site that makes it even easier for users to find what they’re looking for, as well as an improved mobile checkout experience. The Kohl’s tablet app will also have an improved look and increased functionality including integration of the Yes2You Rewards loyalty program and access to Kohl’s mobile wallet. Product detail pages and collection pages will also have a new look, allowing customers easier access to the same amazing products and incredible savings from Kohl’s.

Kohl’s is also leveraging innovative technologies to explore new ways to shop Kohl’s, including:

  • Same-Day Delivery: Kohl’s is currently testing same-day delivery for online purchases in select markets. Customers in participating stores in the pilot areas can place orders on Kohls.com, or via their smart phone or tablet, select the same-day delivery option and the item will be delivered later that day.

These new tools and capabilities represent the latest offerings from Kohl’s to deliver an easy, omnichannel shopping experience and be world-class in mobile. Since the re-launch of Kohl’s mobile app in fall 2014, the app has seen more than eight million downloads and has gone from a half star rating to a four and a half star rating. Kohl’s also launched an app for Apple Watch earlier this spring, offering easy access to Kohl’s savings offers including Kohl’s coupons, Yes2You Rewards and Kohl’s Cash.
