SPAR Hungary introduces its 30-day lifestyle change mobile app

Hungary, 2017-Nov-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Hungary recently introduced its 30-day lifestyle change mobile app, helping those who wish to take steps to improve their health. The app users are given access to dietary plans developed by nutritional experts, training programmes, and other useful tips to help them reach their goals.

The SPAR Lifestyle Change Programme aims to assist more and more people in making conscious dietary changes and participating in regular sports activities. The initiative is built around a free-of-charge mobile application which anyone can access from the App Store or Google Play. The programme has been developed by trained and experienced professionals: a dietary expert and certified nutritionist developed the diet plan including all meals of the day; Gábor “Bio” Tóth, a regular contributor to radio shows, has provided additional useful and interesting information; and professional trainers developed 20-25 minute long, easy-to-perform exercises, in the form of short videos.

In addition to the daily exercise tips and dietary advice, the software also supports motivational texts and information about supplements, meditation, yoga, rehabilitation and office exercise videos. Consultation with experts is also accessible through the website, while the app also monitors the fluid intake of users – sending reminders to drink enough water throughout the day.

Some of the products included in the SPAR Lifestyle Change Programme can be purchased with discount coupons by programme users. App users are also eligible to win fantastic prizes.

“As a value-focused family enterprise, SPAR has always highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet plays a much larger role in today’s busy world than ever before and as such, SPAR doesn’t only provide high quality food, but also aims to assist in maintaining a healthy diet,” explained Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

HUNGARY: INTERSPAR store in Zalaegerszeg reopened after extensive renovations

Modernised fruit and vegetable department in INTERSPAR Zalaegerszeg

Hungary, 2017-Apr-26 — /EPR Retail News/ — The INTERSPAR store in Zalaegerszeg was recently reopened after extensive renovations including a spacious new layout, the addition of a SPAR-to-Go restaurant and the implementation of energy-efficient lighting and equipment. SPAR Hungary invested nearly €3.4 million in the store renovation project.

“As the standard of living in Hungary increases, a new type of retail market has emerged. On-going store expansions and renovations will determine who will succeed in the Hungarian retail industry over the next 10 years. Customer demands have pushed SPAR to pursue a strategy of modernising its older stores, using cutting-edge designs and technologies,” explained Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

The region of Western Hungary, including Zalaegerszeg and its surrounds have significant purchasing power and the INTERSPAR Hypermarket has served customers for 17 years. The construction work began in November 2016 with unchanged business hours. It was closed from January to April for the final overhaul, before reopening on 6 April. The extensive project focused on introducing a SPAR-to-Go restaurant to the INTERSPAR, offering freshly prepared warm meals, such as pizza, grilled dishes, fried dishes, sandwiches, salads, soft drinks and coffee.

The 4,230m² retail selling area was not enlarged but its appearance and layout were significantly changed. The separate glass return point was disassembled, the warehouse re-painted and tiles replaced. New refrigerator chambers were also installed in the back of the store. Furthermore, the shelves and counters were transformed in line with a Scandinavian interior design concept, creating an innovative environment, complying with modern customer demands.

This year, SPAR Hungary will spend more than €741 million on the continuous expansion of its retail network with the renovation of 24 stores and the opening of five new ones.

SPAR Hungary opens new hypermarket in Pest; creating 100 new jobs

Hungary, 2017-Mar-23 — /EPR Retail News/ —SPAR Hungary invested more than €12.8 million in the development of the new store, creating 100 new jobs.

Located in the county of Pest, the latest hypermarket is part of a new shopping centre which was designed using environmentally friendly technology and is located at a busy motorway intersection. As part of its overall investment, SPAR Hungary also renovated the surrounding roads and the sewage system. A playground of 200m² was also created next to the hypermarket. With these investments, SPAR has significantly contributed to the infrastructural development of Érd.

“We have a lot of plans for development in 2017,” said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary. “It is important to keep modernising and expanding our network of hypermarkets. In our experience, people living in the vicinity of Budapest value stores that are easily accessible, with many parking spaces and a good product range – this is why we decided to go ahead with the development in Érd.”

SPAR Hungary opened its first INTERSPAR store in 1995 in the town of Győr. The 32nd INTERSPAR opened in November 2014 in Szekszárd and now, shoppers have access to the 33rd INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Érd.

The INTERSPAR Hypermarket in the new shopping centre is based on a concept that has recently been carefully designed by Hungarian and international retail experts. It makes use of good quality materials and energy-saving solutions. After passing through the entrance of the store, a market-like fruit and vegetable section welcomes customers, who can then proceed through the fresh bakery area to the delicatessen counter. The hypermarket offers a total of more than 20,000 top quality products. A new cashier information system enables faster payment, in addition to the traditional cashiers.

The Érd INTERSPAR offers several helpful services to shoppers. An electric car charging station in the parking lot is one such new service, enabling any type of electric car to be charged within one to six hours. At a mobile charging point in the entrance of the store, customers can also charge their phones. The SPAR-to-Go restaurant awaits guests with grilled products, sandwiches and salads made from quality ingredients, and other dishes prepared onsite are also available to eat or to take away. A free wi-fi service is available throughout the store.

Energy-efficiency played a key role in the development of the hypermarket. LED lighting has been installed throughout the store, consuming much less energy than traditional bulbs. The building’s heating is supplied from waste heat generated during commercial cooling, and cooling is provided using a cutting-edge heat pump system. Doors have been added to the fridges to ensure environmentally friendly operation.

In addition to the INTERSPAR, the shopping centre also houses a shopping area of 1,200m², where a coffee shop, a post office, a chemist, an optician and a jewellery shop will also open. The underground and the open-air parking lots offer a total of 377 parking spaces. Moving walkways enable visitors to easily move from the first floor to the centre of the store, the SPAR-to-Go restaurant and the entrance of the shopping area. A bus stop has been set up at the main entrance of the building, and a bus waiting area is also available.

Hungary, 2017-Feb-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Hungary donated more than 160 million HUF (approximately €512,000) to social responsibility causes in 2016. The first donation of this year went to the Hungarian Fire Fighters Association, which received 100 new LCD monitors to help with the training of new firemen.

“As a family-owned enterprise, SPAR lays great emphasis on supporting those in need and contributing to social responsibility initiatives. We provide a significant number of product donations and financial support to different organisations and communities,” explained Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

Last year, SPAR supported almost 100 organisations and institutions across the country active in the fields of culture, education, healthcare, social welfare and animal protection. One such organisation was the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, a strategic partner of SPAR’s for several years, which received more than 61 million HUF for different charitable activities. Through the sale of donation cards sold in stores, at OMV petrol stations and online, more than 10 million HUF was collected to aid families living in extreme poverty, and out of the revenue collected from the sale of charity shopping bags, 4 million HUF was donated to the Hungarian Maltese Ambulance Service. In addition to this, customers of SPAR stores donated a record amount of food products in December, with 288.5 tonnes collected for the “Joy to Give” donation programme.

Continuing the charitable trend in 2017

SPAR Hungary’s contribution to the Fire Fighters Association is in keeping with its support for various disaster management services. “We have formed a strategic partnership with the National Disaster Management Directorate.
