NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y., 2017-Nov-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — Kimco Realty Corp. (NYSE:KIM) today (11/21/2017) introduced plans for Mill Station – a new, open-air shopping destination at the former site of the Owings Mills Mall in Baltimore County, Maryland. Costco will anchor the 575,000-square-foot Kimco Signature Series development, which will feature national, regional and local retailers, a variety of dining options, ample parking, green space and pedestrian-friendly walkways. Construction is scheduled to commence in early 2018, with completion expected in early 2019.

“Mill Station will be a dynamic retail destination that breathes new life into the Owings Mills community,” said Conor Flynn, Kimco’s Chief Executive Officer. “Kimco is transforming this asset, delivering an impressive mix of national brands, local shops and dining options in a modern, open layout that better reflects the desires of local shoppers and the character of this area.”

The approximately $108-million, ground-up development will house up to 30 retailers and restaurants, linked by a network of walkways and connections to existing office and retail. Mill Station lies in close proximity to mass transit, and enjoys direct access to I-795, connecting Carroll County with Baltimore County. The shopping center will serve a population of 166,000 in the surrounding five-mile area, with an average household income of approximately $93,000.

Costco will open a 148,000-square-foot warehouse club at the shopping center, to include a deli, bakery, food court, garden center, optical department, photo center and a gas station. The Mill Station club will be the only Costco location within a 15-mile radius. Kimco is negotiating leases with several additional retailers to occupy a total of 350,000 square feet at the new center. Furthermore, the site’s existing AMC Theatre will be fully modernized, creating a state-of-the-art cinema experience.

Nordstrom to open Nordstrom Rack within The Shops at Canton Crossing in Baltimore, Maryland

SEATTLE, 2017-Feb-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — Seattle-based Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE: JWN) announced today (Feb. 15, 2017 ) plans to open a Nordstrom Rack within The Shops at Canton Crossing in Baltimore, Maryland. The approximately 32,500-square-foot store is scheduled to open in spring 2019. The Shops at Canton Crossing is a 325,000 square foot retail shopping center located on 3501 Boston Street.

Nordstrom Rack joins more than thirty existing retailers and restaurants such as Target, Harris Teeter, DSW, Ann Taylor Loft, Old Navy and ULTA. The store opening will coincide with the completion of the Phase II section of The Shops at Canton Crossing, a 90,000 square foot addition that is expected to begin construction this November. The Shops at Canton Crossing fronts on Boston Street and is bordered by S. Baylis Street on the west and S. Haven Street to the east. The shopping center is located one-half mile from Boston Street Exit off Interstate 95.

(NYSE:KIM) announced today (1/26/2017) that it has signed three new leases, including Starbucks, at its Wilde Lake center in Columbia, Maryland, on the heels of a dramatic $18.1 million redevelopment which transformed the project into a mixed-use destination with 230 residential rental units, 30,000 square feet of office space, 41,000 square feet of retail, and 20,000 square feet of restaurants.

Wilde Lake Village Center is located in Columbia, Maryland, conveniently situated between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore on 7.4 acres. The redevelopment encompassed freshly-paved walking paths, outdoor seating areas, and community space. New landscaping throughout the center enhanced the existing vegetation, along with stamped concrete walkways and crosswalks, and impervious paver parking spaces. Wilde Lake is a LEED-certified project. As part of the redevelopment, existing grocer David’s Market expanded into a new, larger, and LEED-certified facility, featuring a contemporary interior floor plan with an interior/exterior café.

Wegmans Food Markets customers in Maryland and Virginia donated 109,968 pounds of food during the two-week “Fill the Bus” food drive

ROCHESTER, N.Y., 2016-Aug-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — Wegmans Food Markets customers in Maryland and Virginia donated 109,968 pounds of food during a two-week “Fill the Bus” food drive to support local food banks’ increased summer needs. From Sunday, June 19 through Saturday, July 3 customers were invited to help “Fill the Bus” by donating non-perishable items that provide healthy meal options for children when they do not have access to free or reduced-price meals at school.

“The caring and generosity of our customers continues to amaze me,” said Wegmans Community Relations Manager Linda Lovejoy. “During this campaign, our Virginia and Maryland customers increased their donations by 28,000 pounds over last year, translating to a campaign total of 21,994 backpacks that were sent home with kids to feed them over the course of a weekend. This makes a huge impact on reducing hunger in local neighborhoods, particularly during a time of year when the need is highest.”

Service desks at the 15 participating stores posted wish lists of non-perishable items intended to be nutritious and easy to prepare, like tuna fish, peanut butter, and canned soup. Products to donate were also displayed by the registers and could be purchased at checkout and then placed in a “Fill the Bus” collection bin located by the front of the store.

Donations were collected and transported to the food banks that partner with each store, remaining in the immediate community. The food banks that received donations are listed below with the pounds of food collected, and in parentheses, the Wegmans stores that partner with them:

Weis Markets, Inc. to acquire the assets of 38 Food Lion supermarket locations in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware

Sunbury, PA, 2016-Jul-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — Weis Markets, Inc. (NYSE: WMK), a Mid-Atlantic food retailer, today announced it has reached a definitive agreement with Food Lion, LLC, to purchase the assets of 38 Food Lion supermarket locations operating in the states of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. The Company plans to complete the purchase of these locations pending regulatory approval.

“This transaction provides us the opportunity to expand into markets that are contiguous to our current trade area, particularly in Maryland where we are adding 21 stores— essentially doubling our store count in a state where we have steadily grown in recent years,” said Weis Markets Chairman, President and CEO Jonathan Weis. “We’re also looking forward to expanding our operations into two adjacent states with the addition of 13 stores in Virginia and four in Delaware.”

Weis Markets expects to complete the conversion process for the majority of these stores in September and October and is interested in hiring current Food Lion store teams for the purchased locations. “We look forward to interviewing and hiring team members who share our commitment to offering an industry-leading combination of value, quality and customer service,” Weis said.

This is the Company’s second major acquisition in 2016. In May, it announced plans to purchase five Mars Super Markets in Baltimore County, Maryland, a deal expected to close later this summer. When both purchases are complete, Weis Markets will have increased the number of its operating stores by more than 25 percent and will operate 203 stores in seven states: Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and West Virginia.
