X5 to divest small-format convenience stores operating under the Perekrestok Express brand in Moscow

Moscow, 2017-Oct-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — X5 Retail Group (“X5” or “the Company”), a leading Russian food retailer (LSE: FIVE), plans to concentrate on its three major formats: Pyaterochka proximity stores, Perekrestok supermarkets and Karusel hypermarkets. The Company’s small-format convenience stores operating under the Perekrestok Express brand in Moscow will be put on sale. X5 has selected Renaissance Capital to assist with preparation of the deal. Perekrestok Express accounts for less than 1% of X5’s revenue.

X5 Retail Group CEO Igor Shekhterman said: “Convenience stores like those that Perekrestok Express operates in Moscow, which have a selling space of up to 200 sq m, certainly have potential. However, they represent a fairly narrow segment of Russia’s modern food retail market, in which proximity stores, supermarkets and hypermarkets occupy more than a 90% share. With our market share in these formats steadily growing, we have decided to focus our full attention on continuing to develop the customer value propositions of Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Karusel, including in Moscow.”

This year, X5 has successfully bolstered its major retail formats, while also improving the quality of its store portfolio in Moscow. To achieve this, the Company has, among other things, leased over 100 premises that previously hosted Monetka and Sedmoi Kontinent stores. By the end of this year, these locations will reopen as Pyaterochka stores and Perekrestok supermarkets.

The agreements cover 36 locations for future Lenta supermarkets in Moscow shopping and entertainment centers currently under construction. All the centers are to be reconstructed on the sites of former Moscow cinemas. Each center will have an individual architectural style while delivering the concept of the project as a whole.

Attractively located in the middle of high traffic residential areas, the neighborhood shopping and entertainment centers are intended to meet the daily shopping and leisure needs of local residents. Each center will be a multi-functional space providing a wide range of consumer outlets, entertainment, and essential services, including social, cultural, and educational facilities which will draw citizens to visit them frequently.

A total of around 47,000 square meters will be leased by Lenta under ruble denominated 15 year contracts. All the rented areas conform to the specifications of Lenta’s ‘supermarket’ format, with each store’s total space varying from 740 sq m to 1,800 sq m.

We are accelerating growth in this format and this important agreement with ADG supports our strategy by adding a further 36 stores in attractive high traffic sites. We have a strong pipeline and will continue to add stores through our normal development process, giving us the potential to reach well over 100 supermarkets in Moscow within the next three years or so.”

Grigory Pechersky, Managing Director of ADG Group said: “We are offering our business partner an efficient and scalable way to expand its network across Moscow.  The main feature of our project is that we put hospitality and customer service before concrete and square footage aiming to become the leader of the local district neighborhood.

We are confident that people living close to our center will be visiting it two or three times a week.  Moreover, the exceptionally favorable locations and the use of advanced technologies and flexible formats make us uniquely positioned to be the first in the market to offer access to a loyal customer base of 2.5 million people residing within 15 minutes walking distance.  We will provide not just a shopping experience venue – we will become an integral part of our customers’ lives.”

Auchan Retail, Russia’s largest foreign investor opens its 100th hypermarket in Moscow

Croix Cedex, France, 2016-Dec-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — With a surface area of 5,970 sqm, the new store proposes 23,400 food and non-food product assortments as well as the entire offering available on auchan.ru at a Click&Collect pick-up point.

Having opened its first Russian hypermarket in Mytischi in 2002, the Auchan Retail network now operates in more than 85 cities via its 3 formats (hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores), and via e-shopping.

Since the beginning of its adventure in the country, Auchan Retail invested around 200 billion roubles (€3 billion). Auchan Retail is thus the country’s largest foreign investor and a major player in its economic and social development.
Indeed, it is an active supporter of the state agricultural development programme through its own “Sector Project” that offers farmers co-financing, training and long-term partnerships. Auchan Retail Russia has 43,000 employees, making it the country’s largest foreign employer.

This inauguration in Moscow comes in the footsteps of the opening last week of Auchan’s 99th hypermarket in Tyumen in the Siberian Urals, and in advance of around ten new stores, all formats included, to be opened between now and the end of the year.

The store is also equipped with a pick-up point for deliveries made at our online store www.okeydostavka.ru.

Mr. Heigo Kera, the Chairman of the Board and the CEO of the Group, commented,
“The Moscow market with its strong growth potential is strategically important for the Group. We are growing our footprint in the region both in hypermarket/supermarket format and in the discounter format under the DA! brand. In the new store at Svyatoozerskaya street we have for the first time introduced in the Moscow market the renewed approach to zoning and design of the selling space in hypermarkets. We are catering to the needs of modern, rational сonsumers who want the stores to be convenient and well-organized. New zoning and easier in-store navigation enable customers to easily find the products they need and spend less time on shopping, while this approach also allows us to use selling space in a more efficient way.”

Prada opens 670-square meter space store at the GUM Mall in Moscow

Moscow, Russia, 2016-Aug-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — Fashion is an experience in intimacy. The relationship between garment and wearer creates a personal narrative informed by texture and color, contrast and complement. Garments toy with perception – who we are, who we will be – realized in the way we dress. The Prada store at the GUM Mall in Moscow has evolved into a new constellation of intimate rooms featuring the Men’s and Women’s collections. The new experience embraces femininity and masculinity, light, texture, color, all within the two- level, 670-square meter space.

Overlooking Moscow’s Red Square, the new store features large windows that convey the interior spaces to the passers-by. Marble, velvet, and glass invite customers into the luxurious space. The interior preserves the original GUM vaulted ceiling, while the Prada’s classic black-and-white chequered marble floor pays homage to the original boutique in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. Comprising elegant rooms and retail salons, the store is replete with signature Prada colors and textures: velvet, marble, glass, in the familiar Encausto Green.

Prada at the GUM Mall embodies the twinned contradictions of the Prada brand. The retail experience is an investigation of space, culminating in the moments generated in grand rooms and unique salons. The intense design, detailing, and materiality reflect Prada’s century long commitment to craftsmanship and luxury since Mario Prada founded his first shop in Milan in 1913. Luxury and care are integral to the Prada GUM experience, manifested in the typology of highly crafted intimacy. Prada’s focus remains, as always, on customer service: the comfort, surprise, and delight of the customer is paramount.
