The Company will take possession of this location in May 2018 ensuring a smooth transition from the current occupant.   At 42,000 sq. ft., this retail space will then undergo a major remodel, and reopen as a state-of-the-art Stater Bros. supermarket in fall 2018.

Dan Meyer, a 46-year member of the Stater Bros. “Family” will assume the role of Executive Vice President of Distribution. In this role, previously held by recently promoted President George Frahm, Meyer will oversee the entire operation of Stater Bros. Distribution Division which includes the Company’s 2.1 million sq. ft. Norton Distribution Center in addition to the Company’s Transportation and Fleet Maintenance Departments. Meyer most recently served as Executive Vice President of Retail Operations. His extensive retail operations knowledge is critical to the Company’s supply chain management efforts and he will continue to be an instrumental member of Stater Bros. Executive Management Team. Meyer will report to Stater Bros. President George Frahm.

Keith Thomas is a 37-year Stater Bros. “Family” Member. Thomas is being promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Retail Operations due to Dan Meyer assuming the role of Executive Vice President of Distribution. In this position, Thomas will be responsible for overseeing the entire retail operations of all 171 Stater Bros. supermarket locations. Thomas has steadily progressed through a range of retail store and district supervision roles demonstrating stellar leadership skills and a passion for the supermarket business. In 2009, Thomas was promoted to his most recent position of Regional Vice President of Retail Operations. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from the University of Redlands and is also a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) Food Industry Management Program. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC). Thomas will report to Stater Bros. President George Frahm.

Tom Seaton is a 40-year member of the Stater Bros. “Family”. Seaton is being promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Administration due to the recent promotion of George Frahm. In his new role, Seaton will oversee the Company’s Administration Division, which includes Human Resources, Labor Relations, Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, Support Services and Office Services Departments. In 2009, Seaton was promoted to his most recent position of Regional Vice President of Retail Operations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Redlands. Seaton is also a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) Food Industry Management Program. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the California Grocers Association Educational Foundation, and was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Redlands’ School of Business. Seaton will report to Stater Bros. President George Frahm.

These changes become effective on January 15, 2018.

A seasoned executive with over 45 years of experience in the supermarket industry, Frahm’s extensive grocery career began in 1973 at the Stater Bros. supermarket in Glendora as a Clerks Helper and Janitor.

He steadily progressed through a range of retail store and district supervision roles holding the positions of Store Manager, Retail Grocery Supervisor and Retail District Manager.

In 1995, Frahm was promoted to the position of Director Labor Relations. Frahm continued to advance to increasing levels of responsibility excelling in the roles of Vice President Labor Relations, Senior Vice President Administration, Group Senior Vice President Retail Operations and Administration, Executive Vice President Retail Operations/Administration and Executive Vice President Administration/Distribution, his most recent role.

Frahm holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from California State University, Los Angeles, and is also a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) Food Industry Executive Program. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the California Grocers Association, and has served as a Trustee on the California Grocers Association Educational Foundation.

Toys for Tots program to bring joy to families in need during the holiday season.  On December 6, representatives from Stater Bros. gathered to present a $75,000 check to local Toys for Tots Program ambassadors.   Funds from this donation are used to purchase new toys for disadvantaged children in the communities Stater Bros. serves.

Stater Bros. celebrates the opening of it’s newest supermarket in Norco, CA

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, 2017-Nov-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — Stater Bros. is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Company’s newest supermarket in Norco showcasing Stater Bros.’ updated format and additional features to enhance the shopping experience of the Company’s longtime and valued Norco customers.

The new supermarket is located at 2430 River Road in the Norco Village Shopping Center, developed by Lewis Retail Centers. To celebrate the grand opening, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 8:00 a.m., and the store will officially open for business immediately following the festivities. After Wednesday, the store will be open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and will be led by Store Manager Aaron Ryan, who has 24 years of service with the Company.

This new site will replace a smaller Stater Bros. supermarket located at 1999 River Road, which will close at 9:00 p.m. on November 14, 2017. At 45,712 sq. ft., the new store will be approximately 45% larger than the existing River Road location and bring an additional 100 union jobs to the area. Once open, Stater Bros. “Family” members employed at the current River Road location will transition to the new site.

“This new supermarket demonstrates Stater Bros. ongoing commitment to the Norco community we’ve served since 1971,” stated Pete Van Helden, President and CEO of Stater Bros. Markets.

San Bernardino, California, 2017-Nov-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Throughout the months of November and December, Stater Bros. in conjunction with its charitable arm Stater Bros. Charities will be “Harvesting Hope“  in the valued communities Stater Bros. serves. All 171 Stater Bros. supermarket locations will provide four convenient ways for customers and employees to help their friends and neighbors in need this holiday season.

  • “Bag of Hope” Donation Cards – “Bag of Hope” donation cards are available for purchase at each check stand.  Funds collected through the “Bag of Hope” donation cards will provide fresh and healthy food and funding to our food bank partners and holiday campaign beneficiaries.
  • Nonperishable Food Donations – Food donation barrels are also available at all store locations for those customers who’d like to donate nonperishable food items.  Most needed items include canned tuna, peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned fruit (in water or light syrup), and whole grain cereal.
  • Coin Canisters – Monies collected through the coin canisters at each check stand during November and December, will support low income seniors, veterans, families and children in need. Stater Bros. Charities will present these funds to qualified food banks and feeding programs in the seven Southern California counties served by Stater Bros. Supermarkets.
  • Salvation Army Red Kettles – The traditional Salvation Army Red Kettles will be in front of all Stater Bros. supermarkets from November 13th through December 24th collecting nickels, dimes and quarters to help those who are most vulnerable in the community where the donations are made.

Stater Bros. supports service members by preparing and sending care packages to deployed local military members

Stater Bros. to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke through AHA/ASA’s “Have A Heart, Save A Heart” campaign

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, 2017-Feb-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Stater Bros. is proud to continue its longstanding tradition of giving back to the communities it serves by supporting the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) in furthering its mission to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

For the 16th consecutive year, all 169 Stater Bros. supermarkets will participate in the AHA/ASA’s “Have A Heart, Save A Heart” campaign to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke. The campaign begins on February 1 and concludes on February 12.

Stater Bros.’ customers can participate by purchasing $1 and $5 paper hearts at the cash registers.  Customers are encouraged to write their name or the name of a loved one on the hearts, which will be displayed inside the store.

Funds raised through the “Have A Heart, Save A Heart” campaign will go back into our local communities to teach Hands-Only CPR to residents, involve students in fitness programs and implement educational programs in multicultural communities.

Last year, Stater Bros. customers and employees raised nearly $400,000 for the American Heart Association.  To date, customers and employees of Stater Bros. have raised over $5 million to support research and provide programs to educate the communities served by Stater Bros. about the risks of heart disease and stroke.

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, 2016-Dec-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — Stater Bros. Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Stater Bros. Markets has elected Phillip J. Smith to the position of Chairman of the Board of Stater Bros. Markets, due to the recent passing of Executive Chairman Jack H. Brown.

In this position, Smith will provide guidance and leadership to the company’s executives and officers to ensure the continuity of Stater Bros. business operations and trusted brand.

Smith has been a member of the Stater Bros. “Family” for nearly 30 years and has over 40 years of experience in the supermarket industry.  In 2012, Smith was appointed by Jack H. Brown to the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Stater Bros. Markets, his most recent position.

“I am honored to have been elected to the position of Chairman of the Board of Stater Bros. Markets,” stated Smith.  “I knew Jack for over 40 years and worked closely with him at three different companies. I learned a great deal from Jack’s mentorship and feel privileged to carry on the values and traditions Jack established while ensuring the company remains competitive in the Southern California supermarket industry,” Smith concluded.

Smith joined Stater Bros. in 1987 as the company’s Controller.  He was promoted in 1998 to Vice President-Controller, and in 2000 he was promoted to Vice President-Controller and Chief Accounting Officer.  In November of 2000, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Accounting Officer, and in 2006 he was promoted to Executive Vice President Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer.

Prior to joining Stater Bros., Smith served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Market Basket Food Stores in East Texas from 1984 to 1987.  From 1975 to 1984, he served as Vice President and Controller for various divisions of Cullum Companies, Inc. in Dallas, Texas.

Smith holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin University in Texas.

Stater Bros. Markets names Pete Van Helden President and Chief Executive Officer

San Bernardino, CA, 2015-12-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — Jack H. Brown, Executive Chairman of the Board  of Stater Bros. Markets, announced today that Pete Van Helden has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Stater Bros. Markets effective January 4, 2016.

Brown has served Stater Bros. for the past 36 years as Chief Executive Officer and will become the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stater Bros. Markets. Van Helden will continue to report to Brown.

Van Helden is a 38-year veteran of the Supermarket Industry and has served Stater Bros. as President and Chief Operating Officer since 2013.

Prior to joining Stater Bros., Van Helden was Executive Vice President Retail Operations for Supervalu.   He began his career in the Supermarket Industry in 1977 working as a Courtesy Clerk for Rosauers in Libby, Montana.  In 1978, he relocated to Bozeman, Montana where he joined Albertsons as a Clerk.  During his 38-years in the Supermarket Industry, Pete has held a variety of leadership positions.

Pete holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from University of Phoenix.  He also serves as Vice President of Stater Bros. Charities.
