SPAR Poland launches new mobile app

Poland, 2017-Dec-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Poland has launched a new mobile app for both Apple and Android devices, providing customers with an additional sales and communication channel.

The app’s slogan, “My App, my SPAR”, is a play on SPAR Poland’s new brand proposition, announced in October called, “My Neighbourhood, my SPAR”.

The application makes shopping in SPAR stores even easier. A few taps on one’s mobile phone creates a customised shopping list, which customers can share via e-mail, text or instant messaging. It also gives customers access to current promotions, helping them find the best prices for their favourite products.

Another feature of the app is SPAR Poland’s quarterly Ze smakiem (With taste) brochure, which up until now has only been available on the company website and as a print version in SPAR stores.

Additionally, as the app works with Google Maps, customers can more easily find the most efficient route to their nearest SPAR store and check opening hours. Further development of the app will include the addition of new tools such as push notifications and bar code scanning.

SPAR Poland re-launches its SPAR Express store in Krakow

Poland, 2017-Nov-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Poland has re-launched its SPAR Express store in Krakow, located next to the famous Wawel Castle, introducing a new convenience model to the market. The store meets the easy shopping standards and flexibility demanded by city centre locations. SPAR Poland aims to increase the number of SPAR Express stores located in city centres through its multi-format offer – providing greater convenience to busy customers.

The new SPAR Express store is located in a popular tourist destination. SPAR Poland addresses the needs of international tourists by using both Polish and English names for category communication. The product range is strongly focused on fresh and Food-to-Go, dedicated mostly to customers looking for convenient, ready-meal solutions. The store offers a wide choice of sandwiches, wraps, salads and fresh juice. A strong emphasis was placed on high quality coffee with Costa coffee being offered instore, accompanied by a selection of muffins, donuts and croissants.

The operating costs of the store were carefully considered. For example, the product range was selected to match the requirements of a convenience store aimed at meeting varied customer needs. A convenient location, quick shopping layout, price and quality ratio, as well as a healthy product offering, were all factors given a lot of attention in light of today’s customer demands.

SPAR Poland plans to roll out this concept to other city centre locations, after making any adjustments necessary based on the outcome of the pilot and adaptations required for each location. Being able to offer this alternative concept will attract new independent retailers.

SPAR Poland accelerates its expansion this summer with new store openings

SPAR Poland accelerates its expansion this summer with new store openings

Poland, 2017-Aug-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — It’s been a busy summer for SPAR Poland with the opening of four new stores in the space of just one week and the planning of more at an advanced stage.

SPAR in Poland is systematically increasing its number of franchise stores. The four new stores are located in Tychy (243m2), Zabrzeg (467m2), Konin (450m2) and Szydłów (200m2). Four more store openings are in the pipeline and in early September, a new EUROSPAR Supermarket in Kokoszyce, is due to be rolled out – making for a fitting end to a busy summer of expansion.

This year alone, SPAR Poland has opened 21 stores, proving the potential for growth in what is the biggest market in central Europe. Apart from growing store numbers, SPAR Poland has also been focusing on developing its own brand product range, in particular its premium range. In response to the demand for healthy snack options for instance, it recently introduced a new selection of premium dried fruit and nuts. A new range of pet food products has also been introduced – filling a gap in the market for this category.

Another new development has been the refresh of the core SPAR product line’s packaging design, which is now in line with the design style developed by SPAR International.

LCP announces the opening of Galeria Emka shopping centre in Koszalin, Poland

London, 2017-May-31 — /EPR Retail News/ — The long awaited opening of Galeria Emka shopping centre in Koszalin, which belongs to London & Cambridge Properties Ltd (LCP) – one of the biggest British companies on the property market in Europe, took place on May 20. The object’s renovation and commercialisation appeared to be a spectacular success of the investor, and as a result the great inauguration attracted almost 30 thousand citizens to the gallery.

An extensive artistic and entertainment programme awaited the clients on the opening day and was prepared in collaboration with local cultural institutions. However, the greatest attraction was Margaret’s concert which ended with fireworks show.

The centre was visited only on 20 May by almost 30 thousand Clients and the tenants achieved record sales. Some stores ranked first in terms of sales in Poland, and a dozen or so are in the very forefront.

Krystian Modrzejewski, Country Manager Poland in LCP, says: „We are very pleased to hear the positive feedback from the tenants after the opening. They are thrilled with great sales results at the opening weekend. We already know that this great turnout and high turnover have also remained during the next days after Emka’s inauguration and we hope that it will remain like this in the future.

The opening of the first floor of Galeria Emka raised a lot of emotions among the Koszalin citizens who came shopping on Saturday, as it was entirely closed for the Clients within last few months. The most popular were new stores of such brands as: Grey Wolf, Giacomo Conti, Carry, Top Secret, Martes Sport, Genetic, CCC and Deichmann, Pepco, also a two-level H&M and entirely renewed RTV Euro AGD. Most of the stores prepared special discounts for the Clients which reached even 70%, so the long queues were not a surprise.

Great amount of people was also interested in the new food court praising the tenants’ broad catering offer – Berlin Döner Kebap, Shanghai Kuchnia Chiska (Chinees cousine) and Bistro Express, and also original space arrangement. The absolute hits of the design appeared to be wicker beach chairs which were placed as normal armchairs, and also a characteristic neon with the slogan of the food court: “Food on the beach”.

Jacek Sikorski, the Director of Galeria Emka, admits that he is pleased with the result of the metamorphosis: “It is clearly visible that the renewed Emka is enjoyed by Koszalin citizens. We have worked very hard for the last 12 months so that the modernised Galeria Emka could meet the expectations of our Clients, but it was worth it. I hope that this would be their favourite place in Koszalin.”

Galeria Emka was opened in 2002 and is the longest operating shopping centre in Koszalin. The owner and manager of the gallery is London and Cambridge Sp. z o.o., which is the Polish branch of London & Cambridge Properties Ltd (LCP). It’s one of the biggest British companies on the property and private investor market in Europe which is specialized in commercial real estate. Currently, there are almost 70 premises within 22 thousand sqm of Galeria Emka’s surface area: 45 stores, 12 service points, restaurant, 4 catering premises, café and ice-cream shop, and also a playroom for children.

SPAR Poland further expands in Krakow with two new store developments

Poland, 2017-Apr-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Poland continues to grow in Krakow, the most popular tourist location in the country. With the support of SPAR Poland, independent SPAR retailer Slawomir Rupikowski has successfully converted two locations where a very well-known local competitor brand was previously operating.

The SPAR retailer, who joined SPAR Poland in 2015, has enjoyed a steady growth in sales and store numbers with his portfolio now totalling 28 SPAR stores, more than 15 of which are in Krakow. After Slawomir had taken over another chain and converted the stores to SPAR he realised that the high brand awareness which SPAR enjoys particularly among the many tourists to the city had rapidly changed the shopper profile in his stores. The learning from the conversions made in 2015 and 2016 by Slawomir and SPAR Poland have been implemented during the planning of this latest conversion.

With the modern retail stores SPAR Poland develops, both in company-owned stores and in support of independent retailers, the viability of the stores is assured.

Krakow is visited by over 1 million tourists every month and stores in tourist locations are growing their businesses thanks to brand recognition. At one of the new locations, the SPAR logo was placed on the top of the building, creating great brand awareness in a heavily crowded area.  The retailer paid a great deal of attention to meeting the needs of the affluent customers by responding with the right product offer. The great relationship he has built up with local suppliers to offer quality produce across all fresh departments, complemented by the well-known Own Brand ranges available, have already received favourable responses from customers.

The history of SPAR in Poland dates back to 1995 and the expansion and growth of the brand has been strong over the years with there now being more than 200 SPAR stores in operation in the country, serving close to three million customers each month.

In recent years, the Polish retail market has been characterised by a number of takeovers of smaller, regional chains by national and international operators and this is a trend that SPAR has been taping into to successfully as well.

Beginning early in 2017, Diebold Nixdorf will install the TP Application Suite software platform in selected Pepco pilot stores in Poland.  The rollout in other Eastern European stores is planned to commence in mid-2017. “We will then be using a software platform that opens up to us the whole range of options for future mobile and cross-channel applications,” says Louis van Zyl, Pepco’s CIO for its European retail operations. In the first phase, Pepco plans to extend its e-commerce operations and mobile services for customers, both of which are controlled via the TP.net Mobile POS application.

“Our software solutions help retailers seamlessly link their brick-and-mortar outlets with the online and mobile, thus advancing connected commerce,” says Philippe Dauphin, head of Retail, EMEA, at Diebold Nixdorf.

Pepkor is a South African investment and holding company with headquarters in Pretoria. Carrefour Poland launches free mobile app for its customers

Poland, 2016-Sep-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — On 15 August, Carrefour Poland launched a free mobile app for its customers. It’s a next-generation loyalty programme which is being released as part of Carrefour’s digital development strategy.

With this app, Carrefour hypermarket and supermarket customers can access their store cards and get vouchers which are available once they have logged onto the app using their email address.

The app’s main aim is to register customers with the store’s loyalty programme and generate promotional discount vouchers which are easier to use than with more traditional channels. The app is intuitive, free and guaranteed to speed up the shopping experience.

All vouchers are included in the application and show a picture of the product and a description of the offer in question (the percentage discount, purchase terms and conditions, expiry date, etc.). Customers can choose the vouchers they want to activate themselves.

Once the voucher has been activated, it is automatically allocated to the card. The cashier merely scans the card in the phone, so the entire transaction is simple and fast.

Benefits for customers:
–    Promotional vouchers offering discounts of up to 50%
–    Easy to use, requiring only a minimum effort by customers to take advantage of the vouchers
–    Additional “push” communication – customers can be reminded about new vouchers, or reminded that vouchers are approaching their expiry date
