Gordon Reid MBE becomes the latest Global Brand Ambassador for UNIQLO

Yamaguchi, Japan, 2017-Jul-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — UNIQLO today ( 2017.07.10) announces Gordon Reid MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire)*, the world’s top** male professional wheelchair tennis player, Paralympics singles gold medalist as its latest Global Brand Ambassador. The appointment marks the first time UNIQLO has selected a British athlete for the global role.

Speaking of the appointment, Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President and CEO of the UNIQLO parent company, Fast Retailing, said, “We are delighted that Mr. Reid joins us as the newest UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador. Mr. Reid is a champion of great resilience and human character, overcoming adversity to triumph at the highest level of his sport. These are exactly the values we look for in our brand ambassadors, so it will be a great honor to see him compete in UNIQLO apparel at Wimbledon, where he made history as its first ever men’s singles wheelchair champion.

Effective immediately, the partnership sees Reid promoting the UNIQLO brand and its signature LifeWear worldwide. About Gordon Reid MBE
Gordon was born on the October 2, 1991 in Alexandia, Scotland. In 2007, he became the youngest national wheelchair tennis champion in the UK aged just 15, and in the same year, he led the Great Britain junior team to win the World Team Cup. In 2016 Gordon won singles titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and won the coveted Gold medal at the Rio Paralympic games. He finished the year as world number one and was honored with an MBE. Gordon is ranked No.1* in the world singles rankings.

Berlin, Germany, 2017-Feb-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — UNIQLO, the Japanese global casual apparel retailer, today (2017.02.14) announces that it will launch in Spain with the opening of its first store in Barcelona in autumn 2017. Located on the Paseo de Gracia, one of the city’s most prestigious shopping streets, the store will feature a total sales floor of 1,730 square meters across four levels. UNIQLO will offer a full lineup of innovative, functional and high-quality apparel, developed under the brand’s LifeWear concept, with ranges of men’s and women’s items.

“Entering Spain is an important milestone in the expanding global business of UNIQLO, and we are very excited to launch in Barcelona,” said Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President & CEO, Fast Retailing. “As a city that embraces design, innovation and creativity in everyday life, Barcelona is the perfect location to introduce our unique LifeWear concept – innovative, high-quality clothing that is universal in design and comfort, and made for everyone.”

Since the opening of its first store in Japan in 1984, UNIQLO has built a network of more than 1,800 stores across 18 markets. With the launch of UNIQLO’s first store in Barcelona, Spain will become the 19th global market for the company and the sixth market in Europe. Berlin, Germany, 2016-Dec-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — UNIQLO today announces that it has appointed Marin Minamiya as its first female Global Brand Ambassador. She was 19 when summiting Mt. Everest in May this year as the youngest Japanese national to achieve this feat. UNIQLO will continue to support her through this partnership while working with her on product development and in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and other initiatives to enhance customers’ daily lives through LifeWear.

Profile of Marin Minamiya
Marin Minamiya was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1996. When 18 months old, she relocated with her parents to Malaysia, thereafter living in Shanghai and Hong Kong. She has spent a total of 12 years living abroad. From 2011 to 2013, she climbed all of Hong Kong’s mountains and scaled 6,000-meter-high peaks in Nepal and Tibet. She obtained a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in 2014. Marin went to South Island School in Hong Kong and Tokyo Gakugei University International Secondary School. In 2015, she became a student in the Department of Global Political Economy of Waseda University’s School of Political Science and Economics.

Tokyo, Japan, 2016-Jan-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — UNIQLO today announces that it has renewed its contract with Global Brand Ambassador Kei Nishikori, the leading men’s singles tennis player in Asia, and it will continue to develop sportswear that actively incorporates the player’s ideas and requests.

UNIQLO and Kei Nishikori have built a positive relationship ever since the first Global Brand Ambassador contract came into effect at the beginning of in the 2011 season. Nishikori is continually developing his skills in an aim to become the world’s best. UNIQLO shares this attitude in seeking to be world’s top casual wear brand, which led to the recent contract renewal. At the same time, UNIQLO will continue to develop high-function wear with Nishikori help him deliver his optimal performance.

Kei Nishikori will once again wear the latest from UNIQLO when when he competes in the Australian Open Tennis Championships, this year to be held in Melbourne on January 18-31. “I am very happy to continue my relationship with Uniqlo.
