The Rite Aid Foundation awards $2.2 million to its partner charities through its KidCents Holiday Wishes program

Each Charity to Receive a $5,000 KidCents Grant to Improve the Lives of Children

Camp Hill, Pa., 2017-Dec-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — This season of giving, in an effort to give back to non-profit organizations that give so much to their clients and communities, The Rite Aid Foundation is awarding a total of $2.2 million to its partner charities through its KidCents Holiday Wishes program. Created to recognize the year-round efforts of each organization, each of the more than 440 charities currently participating in The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents program will receive a $5,000 grant to help make a holiday wish of their choice come true.

“The Rite Aid Foundation wanted to give our KidCents charities a special gift this holiday season, in recognition of all they do to give the children they serve a chance for better lives and brighter futures,” said Tracy Henderson, director of The Rite Aid Foundation and charitable giving initiatives. “Our KidCents Holiday Wishes program captures the true spirit of the holiday season and is the perfect way to thank our partner charities for all they do throughout the year to make a difference in the lives of children in our communities.”

The KidCents charities were asked to pick the wish they felt would have the most impact for those they serve. Holiday wishes range from facility and equipment repairs to operating supplies to holiday care packages and gifts to training and special programming to help improve the health, safety and well-being of the children they serve. Examples of holiday wishes being fulfilled through the KidCents Holiday Wishes program include:

• Miracle Babies, San Diego, CA: The nonprofit organization, which provides education, support and financial assistance to families with critically ill newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, is creating holiday care packages that will be distributed to 500 parents.

• The Boys and Girls Club of the Tar River Region, Rocky Mount, NC: The local chapter, which provides after-school programming to thousands of kids ages 5-18 years old at three separate locations, plans to replace insulation that was damaged by Hurricane Matthew last year.

• The Children’s Village, Dobbs Ferry, NY: The nonprofit organization, which provides innovative residential and community-based program to at-risk children, teens and families, is creating a new game room for the 300 kids who live at the facility.

• Northeast Youth Center, Spokane, WA: The youth center, which provides educational and recreational activities to children ages 3-17, will help kids stay warm this winter by providing winter coats and boots.

• Washtenaw Area Council for Children, Ypsilanti, MI: Michigan Children’s Trust Fund’s designated agency for the prevention of child abuse and neglect in Washtenaw County is purchasing 25 tablets and one laptop to begin offering a cyber safety program to its members.

KidCents was developed by The Rite Aid Foundation to provide Rite Aid customers an opportunity to do even more to help the kids in the communities Rite Aid serves. Through KidCents, members of Rite Aid’s wellness+ with Plenti program can round up their in-store or online purchases to the nearest dollar and give their change to one of more than 440 nonprofit organizations focused on improving the health and wellbeing of children. The Rite Aid Foundation to help further with ongoing flood relief efforts across the greater Baton Rouge area

CAMP HILL, Pa., 2016-Aug-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Rite Aid Foundation announced today an additional $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross Louisiana Capital Area to help with ongoing flood relief efforts across the greater Baton Rouge area. The donation will be used to provide 11,000 comfort kits, containing personal hygiene products and snacks, to people displaced by the flooding.

“The flooding in Louisiana has brought devastation and uncertainty to tens of thousands of people,” said Elizabeth Penniman, vice president of communications for the American Red Cross. “Thanks to the generosity of partners like The Rite Aid Foundation, the Red Cross will be able to support the 18 shelters open throughout the area, continue to distribute relief supplies and provide comfort to people hit hard by this historic event.”

The Rite Aid Foundation previously announced a $50,000 donation to help with relief efforts on Aug. 15.

The Rite Aid Foundation donates $25,000 to the Palmetto South Carolina Region chapter of the American Red Cross to help flood victims

CAMP HILL, Pa., 2015-10-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Rite Aid today announced that The Rite Aid Foundation is making a $25,000 donation to the Palmetto South Carolina Region chapter of the American Red Cross to help the victims, families and communities affected by last week’s severe flooding.

Donation Will Help Folds of Honor Provide Educational Scholarships to Children of Fallen and Disabled Veterans 

Camp Hill, Pa., 2015-5-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents program will donate $1.3 million to Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization based in Owasso, Okla., dedicated to providing educational scholarships to children of fallen or disabled veterans. The donation was announced in Owasso over Memorial Day weekend during Folds of Honor’s annual Patriot Cup Invitational, a golf tournament and gala celebrating our nation’s heroes and raising funds for Folds of Honor.

“It is truly an honor for The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents program to join forces with an outstanding organization such as Folds of Honor,” said Ken Martindale, Rite Aid president and chief operating officer who also serves as president of The Rite Aid Foundation. “The Foundation’s donation to Folds of Honor not only brings the mission of The Rite Aid Foundation to life, but most importantly, it will also help the organization continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of children whose parents have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.”

Folds of Honor was founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard who served three tours of duty in Iraq. Since its inception, Folds of Honor has raised more than $70 million and awarded nearly 8,000 scholarships to the family members of fallen or disabled veterans.

Camp Hill, Pa., 2014-9-16— /EPR Retail News/ — The Rite Aid Foundation is taking charitable giving to the next level by letting customers choose the charity they want to support through 204 approved KidCents charities on www.kidcents.com.

Marking the occasion, Rite Aid associates across the country will present $10,000 checks to each of the 204 inaugural KidCents charities, totaling over $2 million in donations, starting today and continuing through the week. This initial group of KidCents charities was selected by Rite Aid associates across the country and is representative of all the communities the company serves.

Rite Aid President and Chief Operating Officer Ken Martindale, who also serves as president of The Rite Aid Foundation, along with Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Michael Wolf, will help launch the nationwide celebrations by presenting two local nonprofit organizations, Leg Up Farm of Mt. Wolf and Family Support of Central Pennsylvania in Harrisburg, each with $10,000. The presentation will take place today at 9 a.m. at the Rite Aid pharmacy located at 1137 Market Street in Lemoyne, Pa., near the company’s Camp Hill corporate headquarters. The Foundation will provide a total of $250,000 to Pennsylvania nonprofit children’s charities during the course of the week.

“We know our customers share our passion when it comes to giving back to the community, and that’s why we created KidCents,” said Martindale. “By shopping at Rite Aid and rounding up their purchases, our customers can easily make a meaningful difference in the lives of kids right in their own community. And our initial group of charities is just the beginning, as we hope that customers who are already involved with an organization that supports children’s health and wellbeing will encourage that charity to apply to join KidCents, taking our program to a whole new level, helping even more kids.”

To participate, Rite Aid customers can sign into their www.kidcents.com and review the profiles of approved KidCents charities they can choose to support. Each charity profile features information about the organization and the services it provides as well as stories of those helped by the organization. Once a charity is selected, the next time the customer shops at Rite Aid, their purchase will be rounded up to the nearest dollar and their change will be designated to their selected charity.

“As a public health official and as a father, I know how valuable it is for our children and young people to receive the resources they need to have the highest quality of life and health possible,” said Wolf. “KidCents provides an opportunity for people to make small contributions that can create lifelong impacts to the communities they serve.”

Nonprofit organizations interested in participating in The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents< www.kidcents.com/apply to submit an application. To be eligible, an organization must be classified as exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code and meet the KidCents program guidelines. Once approved, KidCents charities are also eligible to earn a “www.kidcents.com.
