The group consists of the store manager, executive chef, and three area managers who each supervise several departments within the store.

“This team brings an incredible background of knowledge and experience to Natick, and we’re still hiring and training for a number of open positions,” said Marybeth Stewart, Wegmans human resources manager.

Wegmans is offering on-the-spot job interviews at its Framingham hiring office, located at 10 Speen St., Wednesdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. An additional Wegmans employment office is open daily in Natick Mall and job applications are accepted online at Wegmans.com/careers.

The Wegmans Natick store leadership group is as follows:

Store Manager Rich Boscia
Rich Boscia has been in the supermarket business since he was a teenager in New Jersey, working his way from part-time maintenance employee and cashier to assistant store manager. He joined Wegmans in 2001 as a merchandising area manager and was promoted to perishable area manager several years later. After moving to Massachusetts, he helped open Wegmans’ Northborough store, the family-owned company’s first foray into New England. In 2012, Boscia was promoted to store manager. He’s currently focused on hiring and training for the 550 employees that will serve the Natick community. Boscia has an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and resides in South Grafton.

Executive Chef Brendan Newhart
Brendan Newhart’s grandfather owned a grocery store and his father owned a deli and pizzeria, so going into a culinary profession was a natural fit for him. A graduate of Paul Smith’s College with a degree in Culinary Arts and Service Management, he began his career with Wegmans in Rochester, NY as a culinary team leader in 2010. The following year, he relocated to New England as a sous chef and worked his way up to executive chef at the Westwood store. At Natick, he plays a key leadership role for some 130 culinary employees who will make Wegmans’ unmatched variety of restaurant-quality prepared foods.

Perishable Area Manager Dan Jackson
Dan Jackson began working at Wegmans in 2001 as a full-time cook for Asian cuisine in Wegmans’ Elmira, NY store. He brings prior experience as a service team leader and department manager for bakery, deli, and prepared foods. Jackson also worked as a business analyst before relocating to the Burlington, MA store as service area manager. He was later promoted to perishable area manager at Wegmans in Chestnut Hill. At Natick, Jackson will oversee the produce, floral, bakery, seafood, meat, cheese, and deli departments, where customers will find the freshest ingredients and employees will offer easy meal solutions.

Merchandising Area Manager Will Mitchell
Will Mitchell joined Wegmans as a part-time cashier and Helping Hand parking lot attendant in 1999. He went on to work full time in frozen foods and became a service team leader before managing the grocery and produce departments. Most recently, he was merchandising area manager at Wegmans in Burlington. In Natick, Mitchell will supervise each of the departments found on the first level of the unique two-story location, including grocery, dairy, frozen foods, health and wellness, bulk, wine, liquor, beer, and home and entertaining.

Service Area Manager Megan Ruby
Megan Ruby started her Wegmans career in 2004 as a part-time cashier and customer service desk employee. A Wegmans Employee Scholarship recipient, she also completed two internships and worked as a business analyst. She continued her employee development as a service team leader and front-end manager. As service area manager in Natick, Ruby will lead the front end, service desk, maintenance, Helping Hands parking lot attendants, and accounting office. She will also oversee local community giving, carrying out Wegmans’ commitment to make a difference in every community it serves.

Wegmans entered New England with its Northborough location in 2011 and currently operates five stores within the state. The Natick store is a 146,500-sq. ft. supermarket spanning two floors, including in-store café seating and two restaurant concepts: The Burger Bar and Blue Dalia Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a 95-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. The family-owned company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016. Wegmans Food Market’s Medford store at Mystic Valley Parkway opens on Sunday, Nov. 5

MEDFORD, MA, 2017-Nov-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Sunday can’t come soon enough for Wegmans’ Medford Store Manager Kevin Russell, the store’s 450 employees, and the eager residents who have called, emailed, and sent in social media comments since plans to bring Wegmans to Medford were announced in 2015.

“Wegmans coming to Medford, Ma?!,” wrote one resident in a tweet. “Don’t toy with my heart. Christmas might have come early this year!”

When the doors open, shoppers at the 120,000 sq. ft. store will be treated to everything they’ve come to love about Wegmans and then some, starting with the expansive produce department – a nod to the family-owned company’s humble beginnings as a produce pushcart in 1916. Customers will have a sense of visiting different shops as they move through the store, as one would in a European open-air market. What may be surprising to some is the consistent, low prices they’ll find and the choice of Family Pack sizes that can save 30% or more.

“Our Medford store also has two newer features that aren’t found in our other New England locations,” said Russell, a 31-year Wegmans employee. “The Burger Bar is a family-friendly in-store restaurant counter, serving burgers and sandwiches, salads, soup, sides, and beer and wine by the glass. The Pizza Shop here offers made-to-order pizzas baked in a custom rotating brick hearth oven, along with Sicilian-style pizza by the slice.”

Wegmans employees – those new to the company and seasoned veterans – have spent the last several months training and preparing for the opening. Why start so early? So they’re well prepared to provide incredible customer service right from the start.

“Customers want to learn where this food came from, how best to prepare it at home, and what else goes well with it,” said Medford Executive Chef Arlo Trainor. “The better we train our people, the better these conversations can be.”

Wegmans Food Market’s Medford store at 3850 Mystic Valley Parkway opens at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5. Customers who arrive early on opening day, and are near the front of the line, can join employees in the Wegmans cheer at 6:55 a.m. Sound good? Take note: Daylight Saving Time ends on Nov 5.

Wegmans Food Markets’ newest store in Medford donates 17,523 pounds of food to The Greater Boston Food Bank

BOSTON, MA, 2017-Oct-11 — /EPR Retail News/ — Wegmans Food Markets’ newest location in Medford will deliver a tractor-trailer filled with 17,523 pounds of non-perishable food to The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) on Thursday, October 12 at 10 a.m. The Greater Boston Food Bank will, in turn, distribute the items to food pantries, including those that serve the Medford area (The Community Cupboard Food Pantry of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford, the Saint Raphael Food Pantry, and the Friends of Francis Food Pantry), where Wegmans will open on Sunday, November 5.

A group of Wegmans employees and Medford-area food pantry representatives will be at GBFB when the donation arrives to help unload the truck, which includes nearly nine tons of items such as canned fruits, vegetables, soups, juices, cereals and other products.

“This donation demonstrates our commitment to reducing hunger and giving back to the communities where our customers and employees live and work. It’s our privilege to begin making a difference even before the store opens,” said Kevin Russell, Wegmans Medford store manager.

In 2016, Wegmans donated 14.5 million pounds of food to local food banks, food pantries, and meal programs across all of its market areas. The company also makes it easy for shoppers to support local hunger relief efforts by participating in annual food bank scanning programs at checkout. Since 1993, Wegmans has raised more than $33 million through these programs with 100% of the funds going directly to local agencies.

“Eleven percent of Medford residents struggle with food insecurity, and we thank Wegmans for partnering with The Greater Boston Food Bank to directly help those in need in area,” said Catherine D’Amato, president and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank. “Wegmans’ generous donation will provide the equivalent of 14,603 meals and reflects its exemplary commitment to hunger relief.”

Wegmans Food Markets ready to open new store in Montvale, New Jersey on Sunday, September 24

New Wegmans employees are ready to deliver exceptional service beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 24

MONTVALE, NJ, 2017-Sep-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — Paul Jordan can’t hide his enthusiasm about the grand opening on September 24 of Wegmans Food Markets’ new 108,000 sq. ft. store in Montvale, New Jersey, where he’s the store manager. It’s as if his 28 years of working at Wegmans were warm-ups for this moment.

The new Montvale store employs 500 people, 450 of whom are new to the company. Employees have spent the last several months training and preparing for the opening. For Jordan, the most exciting part of opening a new Wegmans store is “getting to know all the fantastic new people we have – every single person has a great story to tell.”

One of Jordan’s most important responsibilities, he says, is to ensure that every member of his team has the kinds of opportunities he had in his own career.

Jordan grew up in Liverpool, New York. By the time he was 16, he’d set his sights on Wegmans, where his brother had a part-time job. By high school graduation, Paul had earned a Wegmans employee scholarship that provided tuition assistance for him to earn a bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland. He graduated in 1996 and went back to Wegmans, working as a night manager in Upstate New York. Then he was invited in 2001 to become a management trainee in the produce department at the Bridgewater, New Jersey store. He was assigned a mentor and began learning not only how to make the produce department an irresistible part of the store for customers, but also how to foster the career development of his team members.

His next managerial assignment was to open the produce department at the Woodbridge store in 2003. The following year, he became the service manager at Bridgewater, and then gained additional experience as the perishable manager at the Woodbridge, Princeton and Manalapan stores. He returned to Princeton in 2014 as store manager.

While Jordan has helped open other Wegmans stores, the Montvale store is the first he has opened as the store manager, overseeing hiring for the entire store as well as ensuring that everything stays on track as opening day approaches.

“There’s so much for our people to learn,” says Jordan. “We carry hundreds of produce items every day, imported and specialty cheeses, foods from around the world, and approximately 65,000 products in all. We will teach customers about cooking techniques, we have a 250-seat Market Café, and The Burger Bar will serve fresh-cooked meals for families to enjoy.”

The new employees also learn about Wegmans’ culture of mutual support. They see in action what it means to respect and care about those you work with and how team members empower each other to be their best.

“One of the first conversations we have at orientation is about empowerment. I want our team to know that it’s okay to do what they think is right to take care of the customer, and I’ll support them. When our folks know that their decisions will be respected, they don’t hesitate to act on behalf of the customer – and that’s powerful.”

The new Montvale store is Wegmans’ ninth in New Jersey and its 94th store overall.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a 94-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. The family-owned company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016. Wegmans Food Markets announces Montvale store leadership team; store opening Sept. 24

MONTVALE, NJ, 2017-Aug-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — Wegmans Food Markets today (August 14, 2017) announced the local leadership team managing its Montvale store, which opens Sunday, Sept. 24 at West Grand Avenue and Mercedes Drive. This group consists of the store manager, executive chef, pharmacy area manager, and three area managers who each supervise several departments. Altogether, they bring 89 years of experience working for the family-owned company. Hiring and training are ongoing, and those who are interested should apply online at wegmans.com/careers.

The Wegmans Montvale leadership team is as follows:

Store Manager Paul Jordan
When Paul Jordan talks with new employees about working at Wegmans, he tells them, “this is the only job I’ve ever had.” That’s because he began working for Wegmans in upstate New York as a part-time Helping Hand (parking lot attendant) in 1989 while he was still in high school. He went to college with tuition assistance from the Wegmans Employee Scholarship Program and graduated from John Carroll University, staying on with Wegmans afterward as a night manager and then relocating to New Jersey as a produce management trainee. From there he rose through the ranks as a produce manager, service area manager, and perishable area manager before a promotion to store manager in 2014 at Wegmans’ Princeton location. Today, Jordan prepares to open the company’s 94th store and lead a team of 500 employees in Montvale.

Executive Chef David Lopatynski
David Lopatynski grew up in Oradell – just seven miles away from the Montvale store – and he attended college at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he majored in communication studies. While there, he began cooking in a Japanese restaurant. He enjoyed it, but didn’t view cooking as a career for himself right away. After graduation, he took a marketing job but found himself drawn back to the kitchen. He finally made the jump into the restaurant scene and honed his skills, working his way up through some of the top gastropubs of Rockland County, N.Y. He joined Wegmans in 2015 as a sous chef at the Ocean store and was named Executive Chef at Woodbridge shortly afterward. Returning to his roots in the Montvale area, he will oversee the culinary team of more than 100 that provides Wegmans’ restaurant-quality prepared foods, with mix and match self-serve food bars, artisan pizza, subs, hot soup, fresh sushi, The Burger Bar, and more – all for in-store dining or takeout.

Pharmacy Area Manager Maria Lockwood
A graduate of the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in New York, Maria Lockwood joined Wegmans in 1993 as a pharmacy intern. From there she grew her career as a pharmacist, pharmacy operations manager, and pharmacy manager. Lockwood is a licensed pharmacist in five states and now in Montvale, she will lead the pharmacy and its staff, helping Wegmans employees and customers live healthier, better lives. Wegmans pharmacy services include immunizations, auto-refill of prescriptions, free home shipping, pet medications, competitively low prices on select generic prescriptions, and free text alerts.

Perishable Area Manager Chrissy Kreber
Chrissy Kreber is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego and began working at Wegmans in 2003 as a part-time cashier. She brings prior experience in a variety of positions, including cheese shop, front end manager, employee representative, café manager, service area manager, and merchandising area manager. As perishable area manager in Montvale, Kreber will oversee the produce, floral, bakery, seafood, meat, cheese, and deli departments, ensuring Wegmans’ high standards for the freshest ingredients are met and employees are prepared to share in-depth food knowledge with Wegmans customers.

Merchandising Area Manager John Pastorella
John Pastorella became a Wegmans employee in 2007 when he began working part time as a cashier and Helping Hand. He went on to work in the deli and in seafood before learning through various full-time roles as a management trainee, seafood manager, employee representative, and overnight operations manager. In his current role as merchandising manager, he’ll supervise several departments, including grocery, dairy, frozen foods, Nature’s Marketplace and home and entertaining. Pastorella will work collaboratively across the store to ensure that the thousands of products that Wegmans offers are well displayed and well stocked.

Service Area Manager Emily Reynolds
Emily Reynolds has been a Wegmans employee since 2006. A graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta, she started with Wegmans as a part-time cashier before taking on roles in produce and bakery, a store operations internship, as management trainee in the Cheese Shop and produce, bakery manager, and employee representative. Wegmans Food Markets’ James Street store celebrates 40th Anniversary

EAST SYRACUSE, NY, 2017-Jul-06 — /EPR Retail News/ —

WHAT: 40th Anniversary of the 1977 opening of Wegmans Food Markets’ James Street store.

WHEN: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017

WHERE:   Wegmans James St. 4256 James Street East Syracuse, NY 13057
315-437-1534

The James St. Wegmans Food Market has something special to say to customers on Saturday, July 8: Thanks for 40 great years together, and let’s party! Special events include:

Fun for kids: The East Syracuse Fire Department and the East Area Volunteer Emergency Services ambulance company will bring trucks that kids can climb inside to explore. The Dewitt Police Department will offer to fingerprint kids. Bubba the Bear from Wegmans will pass out stickers, and Frito Lay’s Chester the Cheetah will hand out snack bags.

Music in the Air: Listen for that ‘70s vibe of DJ Kevin Shields, with mega-hits such as Stayin’ Alive and How Deep is Your Love by the Bee Gees, Barbra Streisand’s The Way We Were, and Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive.

Taste It Yourself: Wegmans will offer free bottles of MVP, a new sports drink with no artificial colors or sweeteners, while supplies last. Syracuse food companies including Gianelli’s Sausage, Laci’s Tapas, In My Father’s Kitchen Pasta Sauce, and craft brewers such as 1911 Spirits and Empire Brewing Company will be sampling their best.

Cupcakes for all: The store will pass out hundreds of cupcakes, each decorated with a letter or number that together spell out “Celebrating 40 Years.”

Those who shop or work at the James St. store tend to agree that there’s a “just right” feeling about it. At a little over 58,000 square feet, it’s smaller than other Wegmans locations in the Syracuse area, but it has all the variety and choice of bigger stores. Over the last 15 years, the store has added a Nature’s Marketplace department, updated its Cheese Shop and prepared foods departments, remodeled and expanded the pharmacy areas, and brought in new equipment or fixtures for the bakery, meats, bulk foods, and pizza and subs departments.

“We’re a modern Wegmans in every way,” says Store Manager Tammy Ferris.

Customers love zipping through shopping in less time than they’d need in a bigger store, and look forward to encountering someone they know. On any given visit, there’s a good chance a customer will recognize a friend or neighbor who’s shopping too, and they’ll take a few minutes to catch up.

“East Syracuse is a tight-knit community with friendly, caring people,” says Ferris. “Lots of our customers and employees know other folks in the community who shop here too, so they sense a warm bond when they come here.”

Many James St. employees have made a career of working at Wegmans – there are 34 at this store with 20 or more years of service, some of whom went to college with help from a Wegmans scholarship and returned to work at Wegmans after graduation. Wegmans’ Sr. Vice President of Operations for the Syracuse area, Shari Constantine, with 40 years of service was at one time the night manager at James St.

Over the years, the James St. store has strengthened its ties to East Syracuse by participating in community traditions. Every summer, the store provides ingredients for the annual “Taste of East Syracuse” cook-off, in which the mayor of East Syracuse competes against a Wegmans chef to see who can make the best dish. The cook-off caps a day of activities for the whole family, with games for kids, face painting and more. Every holiday season, the James St. store partners with St. Matthew’s Church to donate holiday dinners to families in need.

Day in and day out, of course, the James St. store plays a part in lots of customer family celebrations – birthdays, graduation parties, bridal and baby showers, holiday and anniversary dinners and more.

“The trust our customers show in asking for our help with these events means so much to us,” says Ferris. “We hope that all our customers will stop by for this ‘thank you’ celebration.”

Wegmans Food Markets recognized as an outstanding Safer Choice Retailer by EPA for the third year in a row

Rochester, NEW YORK, 2017-May-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — On May 15, 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized Wegmans Food Markets as an outstanding Safer Choice Retailer. For the third year in a row, this award was given to Wegmans for fostering awareness of the Safer Choice program and committing to offer cleaning products that meet Safer Choice standards. The award was presented at National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md. and accepted by Wegmans Category Merchant Dave Tantillo.

EPA’s Partner of the Year Awards recognize organizations for demonstrated leadership in furthering safer chemistry and products, and promoting the new Safer Choice label. To qualify for the Safer Choice label, a product must meet EPA’s Safer Choice Standard, which includes stringent human and environmental health criteria. When this label appears on a product, it means the EPA has evaluated each ingredient for potential human health and environmental effects.

“We’re committed to offering effective cleaning products that are Safer Choice-certified whenever possible because we believe it’s the right thing to do,” said Tantillo. “The Safer Choice label makes it easy for consumers to find cleaning products that are safer for them, their families, and the environment. It is the seal of approval we want our customers to know and trust.”

Through the Safer Choice program, the EPA works closely with companies to help them understand the chemistry of their products and to select safer alternatives to chemicals that pose potential health or environmental concerns. Wegmans carries a line of Wegmans brand cleaning products made with safer ingredients as well as several national brand products bearing the Safer Choice logo.

For more information about the Safer Choice Program, visit: http://www.epa.gov/saferchoice.

Wegmans Food Markets president Colleen Wegman to deliver keynote address at St. John Fisher College’s 63rd Commencement ceremony

Wegmans Food Markets president Colleen Wegman to deliver keynote address at St. John Fisher College’s 63rd Commencement ceremony

PITTSFORD, NY, 2017-Feb-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — More than 1,000 students will graduate from St. John Fisher College during its 63rd Commencement, which begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

Colleen Wegman, president of Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., will deliver the keynote address during the ceremony, which will see baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral students receive their diplomas.

“We are honored to have Colleen serve as the keynote speaker at our Commencement ceremony. Her professional and personal accomplishments and demonstrated commitment to the community are a great example for our graduates,” said Gerard J. Rooney, president of the College. “The values of the College align so closely with those of the Wegmans company, and we look forward to the wisdom and advice she will offer.”

Founded in 1916, Wegmans is a family-owned supermarket chain with 92 stores in six states. Ms. Wegman first joined the company in 1991 and was named president in 2005.  Locally, more than 600 Fisher alumni and current students work or intern with the company, and many have received scholarships through the Wegmans Employee Scholarship Program, which began in 1984.

Under Ms. Wegman’s leadership, the company has received dozens of awards and accolades touting its excellence as an employer and retailer, as well as its commitment to the community. Among those awards are the inaugural Champion of Diversity award from Supermarket News, the 2009 Corporate Stewardship Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center, and a #2 ranking for Corporate Reputation, among the “100 most visible companies,” in the 2017 Harris Poll Reputation Quotient® study. Wegmans has also been on FORTUNE magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” since the list began in 1998.

The Wegman family have been benefactors of the College for more than 60 years. The late Robert B. Wegman—Ms. Wegman’s grandfather—joined the Board of Trustees in the 1960s, and over the years, his philanthropic efforts helped transform both academic and co-curricular aspects of the Fisher student experience. In 2005, a $5 million gift led to the foundation of the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, and a year later, an $8 million gift—the largest in College history—established the Wegmans School of Nursing. Both gifts enabled the College to build facilities to house the Schools, which boast state-of-the-art laboratories and learning spaces.

At the ceremony, Ms. Wegman will follow in her grandfather’s footsteps, becoming the second family member to receive an honorary degree from the College; a first for the institution. In 1985, Mr. Wegman was given an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws by then-president, Rev. Patrick O. Braden, C.S.B.; Ms. Wegman will receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.

“It is a special honor to be part of this year’s commencement at St. John Fisher College,” said Wegman.  “We have had a long-standing partnership and connection with the school that started with my grandfather, and we are very proud of that.  We respect Fisher’s mission, and we know that their values align with ours.  I look forward to celebrating the Class of 2017.”

A 1993 graduate of the University of Colorado, Ms. Wegman also holds a master’s degree from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Food Marketing Institute, and locally, has held several positions with the United Way of Greater Rochester, including board chairperson.

The Commencement ceremony is the culmination of a week-long series of events and activities celebrating members of the Class of 2017. For more information about the ceremony, visit the College’s Commencement website.

2017 Harris Poll Reputation Quotient® study: Wegmans Food Markets ranked #2 for corporate reputation among 100 most visible companies

Rochester, NY, 2017-Feb-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Wegmans Food Markets, a family-owned supermarket chain with 92 stores in the northeast and mid-Atlantic region, was ranked #2 for corporate reputation among the 100 most visible companies, according to the 2017 Harris Poll Reputation Quotient® (RQ) study.

“This only happens because our 47,000 employees are committed to helping our customers and giving their best every day,” said Colleen Wegman.  “We are so proud and grateful to our people for earning our customers’ trust.”

The reputations of the 100 most visible companies range from excellent (scores of 80+) to critical (scores below 50).  Including Wegmans, a total of 17 companies earned excellent scores. Conversely, near the bottom of the list, a total of 12 companies earned scores from poor to critical.

Study respondents are asked to rate a company’s reputation on 20 attributes that fall into six key reputation dimensions:   Social Responsibility, Emotional Appeal, Products and Services, Vision and Leadership, Financial Performance and Workplace Environment.

“The way we treat one another matters,” added Colleen Wegman.  “There are five values that guide us:  caring, high standards, make a difference, respect, empowerment.”

Methodology
The 2017 Harris Poll Reputation Quotient was conducted online in English, among 23,633 U.S. respondents from November 29 – December 16, 2016, with preliminary nominating waves of research conducted among 4,092 respondents from September 13 -15 and October 4 – 6, 2016. The Annual RQ study begins with a Nomination Phase, which is used to identify the companies with the most “visible” reputations. All respondents are asked, unaided, to name companies that stand out as having the best and worst reputations. Online nominations are summed to create a total number of nominations for each company. The final list of the 100 most visible companies in the U.S. is measured in the RQ Ratings Phase. In the ratings phase, respondents are randomly assigned to rate two of the companies with which they are “very” or “somewhat” familiar.  After the first company rating is completed, the respondent is given the option to rate the second company. Companies are rated on their reputation on 20 different attributes that comprise the Reputation Quotient instrument. The attributes are grouped into six different reputation dimensions: Emotional Appeal, Financial Performance, Products and Services, Social Responsibility, Vision and Leadership, and Workplace Environment.

Respondents for this survey were selected from among those who have agreed to participate in Harris Poll and sample partner surveys. The data have been weighted to reflect the composition of the adult population. Because the sample is based on those who agreed to participate in an online panel, no estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.

About the Reputation Quotient
The Harris Poll Reputation Quotient (RQ), an established annual measure of the understanding of corporate reputation in America since 1999, identifies movement, trends and insights in a changing corporate reputation landscape. It quantifies reputation ratings for the 100 most visible companies in the U.S., as perceived by the general public.

About The Harris Poll
Over the last five decades, Harris Polls have become media staples. With comprehensive experience and precise technique in public opinion polling, along with a proven track record of uncovering consumers’ motivations and behaviors, The Harris Poll has gained strong brand recognition around the world. The Harris Poll offers a diverse portfolio of proprietary client solutions to transform relevant insights into actionable foresight for a wide range of industries including health care, technology, public affairs, energy, telecommunications, financial services, insurance, media, retail, restaurant, and consumer packaged goods.

Power Meals now on sale in the Market Café areas of select Wegmans Food Markets

Rochester, NY, 2017-Jan-26 — /EPR Retail News/ — What’s in a Power Meal? Fresh, whole ingredients packed with amazing flavor served with balanced nutrition. For people looking for the right fuel to lead healthier, better lives through food, Power Meals provide a balance of nutrients that will keep you satisfied and full of energy until the next meal. Great as a lunch or dinner, Power Meals are now available at most Wegmans Food Markets, and priced in the $8-$15 range, depending upon the ingredients.

Wegmans’ Meal Development Team wanted Power Meals to hit a nutritional “bulls-eye,” and they scrambled a few customary steps to get there. This time, instead of having Wegmans’ nutritionists tweak recipes that chefs had already created to make them healthier, the process began with the nutritionists setting the parameters that Power Meals had to meet.

“We’ve learned a lot in recent years about how nutrients like protein and fiber can help people feel satisfied longer, so they’re less tempted to make choices which don’t align with their health goals,” says Wegmans Nutritionist Kirby Branciforte, RDN. “We also know what many people struggle with in terms of putting together well-balanced meals. So we created the guidelines for Power Meals for the chefs to follow in order to make it easier for folks.”

Power Meal guidelines: 600 calories or less; 25 grams or more of protein; at least five grams of fiber; under 1,000 mg of sodium; less than 10 grams of added sugar; at least one cup of vegetables.

Here are the first eight Power Meals developed. They’re now on sale in the Market Café areas of select stores. (Note: stores may carry a selection, rather than all eight varieties):

  • Kung Pao Chicken Power Meal: With Kung Pao Chicken, Happy Rice, yu choy, asparagus, green beans, stir-fried red pepper, and mushrooms. Total calories: 500.
  • Kung Pao Shrimp Power Meal: Shrimp, green beans, asparagus, yu choy, snap sugar peas, red bell pepper, zucchini, Happy Rice, mushrooms, peanuts, scallions, kosher salt, pistachios. Total calories: 440.
  • King Salmon Tataki Power Meal: With King Salmon Tataki, organic super greens, organic red quinoa, edamame, pistachios, green beans, red and yellow peppers, and truffle ponzu dressing. Total calories: 450.
  • Tuna Tataki Power Meal: Tuna, cooked red quinoa, organic super greens, soybeans, green beans, pistachios, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, and black truffle spread. Total calories: 330.
  • Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin Power Meal: Beef, green beans, asparagus, yu choy, snap sugar peas, Happy Rice, red bell pepper, mushrooms, scallions, zucchini, sake wine. Total calories: 390.
  • Black Pepper Salmon Power Meal: Salmon, green beans, asparagus, yu choy, snap sugar peas, Happy Rice, red bell pepper, mushrooms, scallions, sake wine, zucchini, sugar. Total calories: 430.
  • Tuna Poke Power Meal: Cooked organic red quinoa, organic super greens, soybeans, green beans, tuna, salmon, pistachios, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, scallions, white sesame seeds, and black sesame seeds. Total calories: 400.
  • Ceviche Power Meal: Cooked organic red quinoa, organic super greens, soybeans, green beans, shrimp, pistachios, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, kampachi, scallops, lime juice, jalapeno peppers, and chili garlic sauce. Total calories: 330.

Already, Power Meals have become a sensation at Wegmans stores.

“We did a pilot launch of Power Meals a few of months ago at our Pittsford, N.Y. store and it’s been incredibly successful,” says Executive Chef John Emerson. “We listened to our customers and they wanted easy meal solutions that pack a nutritional punch without compromising on flavor. Power Meals check all of those boxes at a competitive price point.”

“We know our customers want meals that deliver on both flavor and health” says Nutritionist Branciforte.  “We try to offer many different tools to make it easier for families to eat balanced meals in portions that can keep everyone feeling their best.”

Wegmans Food Markets announces influenza vaccine for 2016-2017 flu season is now available

ROCHESTER, N.Y., 2016-Sep-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — The influenza vaccine for the 2016-2017 flu season is now available at all Wegmans Food Markets locations. At Wegmans, receiving the flu vaccination is as easy as picking up a few items for dinner – just stop by the store pharmacy during normal business hours; no need for a prescription or appointment, and in most cases, the fee is covered in full by insurance.

Each year, millions of Americans come down with the flu and hundreds of thousands of them are hospitalized. Flu vaccine effectiveness can vary from year to year, but the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that for the 2013-2014 flu season, the vaccine prevented approximately 7.2 million illnesses and 90,000 hospitalizations. In an effort to continuously improve prevention of seasonal flu, the CDC recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu shot every year.

“By offering the flu vaccination in our pharmacies, we’re making it easy for our customers to protect themselves from the seasonal flu, while also improving immunization rates in the communities we serve,” says Katie Niles, Wegmans pharmacist and pharmacy clinical wellness services manager.

Wegmans pharmacists, certified through the American Pharmacists Association’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery program, started administering flu shots in 2010, and since then the number of customers visiting the pharmacy for an immunization has grown between 30 and 40 percent each year. Last flu season, Wegmans administered more than 75,000 flu vaccinations.

Wegmans pharmacies in New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland offer the flu vaccine for kids and adults, as well as high dose for seniors. In New York and Massachusetts, the flu vaccine is available for adults 18 years and older and high dose for seniors.

The Wegmans Pharmacy Business Partnership Program offers onsite flu clinics for employers interested in giving employees a quick and easy way to protect themselves from the flu, without leaving the office. Wegmans makes it easy for employers to host an on-site flu clinic with online scheduling for employees to sign up for a flu shot timeslot, and the ability to bill individual plan sponsors or billing direct to employers. The employer on-site flu clinics are offered in all Wegmans’ market areas. For more information, contact Brian Pompo, Wegmans Pharmacy Business Relations Manager, at Brian.Pompo@wegmans.com.

In addition to the flu vaccine, Wegmans locations throughout the company’s six-state footprint offer an array of immunizations. Due to state regulations, customers should visit Wegmans.com to see which vaccines are available in their state. Depending upon the state, customers may receive immunizations against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, varicella (chicken pox), herpes zoster (shingles), human papillomavirus (HPV), MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), meningococcal (meningitis), pneumococcal disease (pneumonia), tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.

“We’re helping our customers and employees live healthier, better lives by giving them access to immunizations that protect them from serious illnesses that could lead to hospitalization and additional medical costs,” said Niles.
Wegmans pharmacy employees can also assist customers who need help determining their insurance policy’s coverage.

Wegmans Food Markets takes lunchboxes to the next level with introduction of five fresh organic sandwich breads

ROCHESTER, N.Y., 2016-Sep-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — As back-to-school season gets underway, Wegmans Food Markets is helping busy families take lunchboxes to the next level with the introduction of five fresh organic sandwich breads, all made with care by bakers in Wegmans’ own bakeshop in Rochester, N.Y.

The sliced breads are White Made with Oatmeal, 100% Whole Wheat, Honey Cracked Wheat, 27 Grains and Seeds, and Sprouted Multigrain. Each are priced at $5 for a full loaf and $3 for a half loaf. Half-loaf sizes are convenient for smaller families and make mixing and matching easy.

Customers at all Wegmans stores can try each bread with different lunch-friendly pairings during an Organic Bread and Jammin’ Launch Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Earlier this year, Wegmans invited select customers in Pittsford, N.Y. and Leesburg, Va. to try the new breads and share their feedback with the company. While parents relished the freshness and simple ingredients, school-age critics approved of another key attribute: taste.

Each delicious loaf is packed with good nutrition, according to Wegmans Nutritionist Kirby Branciforte, RD.

“These breads are made with heart-healthy whole grains and they have two to three grams of fiber and four or five grams of protein in each slice, depending on the variety. The protein and fiber help stave off hunger between meals, which helps us remain focused at school or work,” said Branciforte. “Many people don’t realize that grains can offer protein, and that getting some protein at each meal is better than eating a day’s worth at dinner.”

Wegmans nutritionists recommend building a better lunchbox with these ideas to keep the lunch menu from getting stale. Warning: these combinations may be the envy of the cafeteria.

  • White Made with Oatmeal Bread: PB&J, with Wegmans organic peanut butter and strawberry Jammin’ fruit spread. Try it with diced peaches and pears and animal cookies.
  • 100% Whole Wheat Bread: BLT with Wegmans organic uncured turkey bacon, mayonnaise, leaf lettuce, and plum tomatoes. Try it with apple wedges and blueberry Greek yogurt.
  • Honey Cracked Wheat Bread: Wegmans organic uncured fully cooked ham, sliced white American cheese, mayonnaise, and green leaf lettuce. Try it with Himalayan salt popcorn and a banana.
  • 27 Grains and Seeds Bread: Spread the bread with Wegmans organic yellow mustard, and add organic turkey breast, mild cheddar cheese, and kosher dill pickles. Try it with Get Dippin’ multigrain tortilla chips and mild salsa.
  • Sprouted Multigrain Bread: Spread roasted red pepper hummus or roasted garlic hummus on the bread and layer with red cabbage, sliced red radishes, and Romaine lettuce. Try it with baby cut carrots and a fruit strip.

“For years we’ve offered organic sandwich ingredients like deli meats, cheeses, condiments and spreads in Wegmans brand. Our customers asked for organic sandwich bread to accompany those items and it was a natural next step,” said Wegmans Bakery Category Merchant Jerritt Branagan. “We invested in new equipment and training, sourced organic ingredients, developed new recipes and created a dedicated organic space in our bakeshop, certified by Natural Food Certifiers (NFC). We’re proud to finally add these breads to our growing lineup of more than 3,000 organic products.”

In addition to the new organic loaves, Wegmans will continue to carry their conventionally-produced sandwich breads, sold under the Food You Feel Good About banner, meaning they contain no artificial colors, sweeteners, or preservatives.

Wegmans Food Markets to open Short Pump, Virginia store on August 7

SHORT PUMP, VA, 2016-Aug-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — With only the final touches remaining, Wegmans Food Markets’ soon-to-open Short Pump store is nearly ready to make its debut. The shelves are carefully stocked, 550 friendly and knowledgeable employees trained, shopping carts lined up, and customers anxiously await the chance to peruse the 120,000 sq. ft. supermarket that will become “their” Wegmans. The new store is located at West Broad Marketplace on West Broad St. near North Gayton Rd.

The doors open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, and not a moment too soon for those who have watched the 100-year-old company’s progress from afar as new stores opened in Northern Virginia, then closer with Fredericksburg and most recently Midlothian. When Wegmans first announced two Richmond-area store sites in 2014, social media lit up with comments like, “Doing the @Wegmans dance with the rest of RVA,” and “I am crying tears of joy.”

Short Pump Store Manager Todd Strassner and his team are humbled by the warm welcome the family-owned company has already received. While the shopping experience at every Wegmans supermarket is reminiscent of a European open-air market, he finds that each store takes on a unique personality and rhythm.

“As a manager you dream of opening a new store, getting it up and running, building a team and developing a culture,” Strassner says. “Our new employees see in action what it means to respect and care about those you work with, and everyone is empowered to give customers our best.” Strassner has embraced this way of working together since his career at Wegmans began 34 years ago.

The Short Pump store will offer restaurant-quality foods prepared by Executive Chef James Orr, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, and his culinary staff of 130. Options include everything from fresh sandwiches, pasta bowls and salads to hot soup, fresh sushi and delicious chef creations. The food bars are mix and match, with hot and cold self-serve stations featuring entrees and sides, international cuisine, homestyle and vegetarian options – all for in-store dining in the Market Café seating area or takeout.

Chef Orr also oversees The Pub, an in-store restaurant and bar that serves classic pub food with a twist: snacks and sharings, fresh salads, hand-crafted sandwiches and burgers, hearty entrees and a kids menu. Beverages include craft brews like “Evelyn,” a Wegmans Pub-exclusive session IPA by Hardywood Park, ciders, wine by the glass, specialty cocktails and sangria.

“Months of planning and training will culminate on Sunday when we open the store and demonstrate the things that set Wegmans apart, starting with the incredible customer service our people provide,” said Strassner. “Beyond that, my goal is to delight our customers with unmatched quality and selection, convenience, and consistent low prices.”

The Short Pump store is Wegmans’ ninth in Virginia and its 90th store overall.

Wegmans Food Markets delivers two tractor trailers with 40 pallets of food to FeedMore

ROCHESTER, NY,  2016-Jul-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — At 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, two tractor trailers from Wegmans Food Markets will deliver 40 pallets of food to FeedMore. The donation of 35,498 pounds of nonperishable food will include pantry staples like cereal, soup, peanut butter, pasta, canned tuna, canned vegetables, baking ingredients, and meal starters and side dishes.

“While donations during the summer months are typically lower, for the food-insecure folks we help, hunger is a year-round issue,” said Doug Pick, FeedMore chief executive officer.  “We are thankful for our growing partnership with Wegmans and grateful for their dedication to our mission of providing our region’s vulnerable populations with one of the most basic necessities.  We believe that Wegmans will be a tremendous asset to our community for years to come.”

When the Wegmans tractor trailers arrive at FeedMore, Short Pump Store Manager Todd Strassner will be on hand along with a team of employees from both the Midlothian and Short Pump locations to help unload the trucks and stock the shelves.

“We’re proud to partner with FeedMore in serving the needs of our new neighbors in Greater Richmond because food banks build healthier communities,” said Strassner. “We recognize that food banks see increased need during the summer months when many children who have access to free or reduced-cost meals at school are home.”

Helping feed the hungry is a community giving priority for the Rochester, N.Y. based supermarket chain.  When Wegmans Midlothian opened in May, the store began daily donations of perishable food to FeedMore, including produce, bread and dairy items. Wegmans Short Pump will also begin perishable food donations when it opens on Aug. 7.

“One of our values is to make a difference in every community we serve, and it’s a privilege to begin contributing even before the new store opens,” said Strassner.

Where: 1415 Rhoadmiller Street in Richmond. Media is welcome to attend.

Last year, Wegmans donated 14.5 million pounds of food to area food banks across all of its market areas.
