Debenhams Launches Android & Nokia Apps For Shoppers On The Move

Debenhams has launched its latest app for the professional shopper on Android and Nokia phones, making the retailer the first on the high street to offer apps for the three key smartphones.

The free-to-download, fully transactional apps follow the highly successful launch of the Debenhams iPhone app in October 2010. Designed to target the on-the-move shopper and enrich the in-store experience, the Debenhams iPhone app achieved 360,000 downloads and sales of nearly £1 million within five months of launch.

With the success of the iPhone app and sales on the Debenhams website increasing by 82.4%*, Debenhams has extended its multi channel business to include mobile phone users with Android and Nokia phones.

The Android app features a ‘Barcode Scanner’, the first by a high street retailer. This acts as a virtual shopping assistant, using the phone’s camera to snap product barcodes, automatically checking pricing and reviews. The barcode scanner has proved a popular feature on the iPhone app, with customers using it over 90,000 times in the first five months.

Customers can also use the scanner to access exclusive products and offers by looking out for specially generated visual QR codes in advertising and Debenhams’ store windows.

Harriet Williams, head of Digital Development for Debenhams said, “Our iPhone app has already seen 2.4 million shopping sessions with 110,000 customers using the app more than five times*.

“Launching on the Android and Nokia platforms opens Debenhams mobile shopping to millions more customers, bridging the gap between the high street and Debenhams.com.

“Acting as a pocket personal shopper, downloading the Debenhams mobile apps means that getting lost, not being able to find your size and having to carry heavy bags home are pitfalls of shopping trips past”.

Customers no longer have to scroll endlessly through reams of products online. The apps enable customers to narrow down the selection of items displayed by type, brand, colour, price and size. Bargain-hunting shoppers can even select to shop for sale items only.

The ‘Wish List’ feature has been designed to allow users create their shopping list and email their list to friends and family as gift ideas for birthdays and Christmas. Wish lists can either be created by scanning products in store or by selecting them in the app.

Littlewoods Europe has announced the addition of a wish lists feature to its website

The wish list service is new to the Littlewoods Europe site and it allows customers to save items they are interested in and then come back later and purchase the items directly from their wish list, with the list keeping a record of the items which have been purchased and the items which are still to be bought.

The wish list service also allows the creation and naming of multiple lists for one account. This means that customers can organise lists in the way that is best suited for them, with a different list for different occasions or for different departments within the Littlewoods Europe online store.

The new wish list service offers a greater level of convenience for the shopper as items can be saved and returned to at a later time without having to search for them again or remember what item was previously searched for.

A spokesperson for Littlewoods Europe said: “We are very pleased to introduce wish lists on Littlewoods Europe. When shopping, you can’t always buy something as soon as you see it, whether it’s time or financial restraints. The addition of wish lists to our site means customers can save items they like and come back to them at a later time. There is also the option for multiple lists so you can get your shopping organised in no time. We hope this added functionality on the site will mean a better shopping experience for the customer.”

International Quilt Festival Brings Fun And Fabric To Cincinnati

It’s one of the most popular hobbies in the country, one with a warm, storied past and an even more blazing future on the cutting edge of contemporary art. And beginning this year, Midwesterners in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana will get to see what quilting is all about at the debut of the spring edition of International Quilt Festival in Cincinnati!

“We are very excited to bring the show to the Queen City,” says Festival Founder and Director Karey Bresenhan, who also oversees other editions of Festival in Long Beach and Houston — the latter of which annually draws more than 60,000 attendees! “The area has always been rich with quilters and fabric artists, and a lot of them have never been to a show of this size before!”

International Quilt Festival/Cincinnati will take place April 8-10 at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio . Classes will begin April 7, and Preview Night will be held the same day from 5-9 p.m.

Quilting is big business! As reported in the most recent Quilting in America™ survey, there are more than 21 million quilters in the U.S. who spend nearly $3.6 billion annually on their passion. According to USA Today, that’s more than is laid out by hunting/gun enthusiasts, fishermen, and golfers combined.

But you don’t have to be a quilter—or even know how to thread a needle—to enjoy so much of what’s available at the show.

There will be almost 400 shopping booths offering antique and contemporary quilts and fabrics, patterns, notions, and books for the quilting and sewing enthusiast. Festival visitors will also find everything from antiques, crafts, and home décor items to clothing, jewelry, bags, and other accessories.

On display will be over 500 incredible quilts and other works of fabric art in 18 different special exhibits. These textile artworks run the gamut from antique time-honored patterns to cutting-edge contemporary fabric artistry.

Among this year’s exhibit highlights are “America Collects Quilts®: The Works of Susan Shie,” which feature the sometimes controversial artist’s unique works; “Baltimore Album Review II: Baltimore ‘s Daughters—Friends Stitch Past to Future,” an inspiring exhibit of quilts created in the Baltimore Album Style; and “Celebrate Spring! 2011,” a Judged Show in which the theme is the season of renewal.

This year, Festival’s Quiltmaking Academy will be host to more than 60 classes, luncheons, and special events with a faculty including some of the quilting world’s most well-known and respected teachers.

“There are always new ideas and techniques to be learned in the classroom, but you can also learn a lot just walking through the exhibits area and admiring the incredible artistry represented in the quilts on display,” Bresenhan adds. “Quilting has come a long way, and continues to evolve. If you haven’t seen the face of quilting lately, I’d encourage you to visit the show and see just what this remarkable artform is today!”
