Co-operative Food teams up with delivery specialist Hermes to launch ParcelShop service

MANCHESTER, England, 2016-Mar-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Millions of Co-operative Food customers are set to benefit from a new service that will not only enable them to send parcels from their local store but have them delivered there as well.

The Co-operative has teamed up with Hermes, the consumer delivery specialist, to offer its ParcelShop service that provides consumers with an effective means of sending personal and business parcels, returning unwanted Internet purchases and to specify their local Co-op store as an alternative delivery address.

Following a successful pilot in 42 stores from today (15 March) the service is being extended to up to 450 outlets across the UK, making the Co-op one of Hermes’ biggest business partners.

“As a community retailer we are committed to enhancing the communities in which we operate. The pilot scheme clearly demonstrated that the Hermes ParcelShop service is used and appreciated by many of our customers and so we are delighted to extend it to many more stores.”

Weingarten Realty Investors announces management promotions

HOUSTON, 2016-Mar-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Weingarten Realty Investors (NYSE:WRI) announced today the promotions of Lee Brody to Senior Vice President / Leasing Mid-Atlantic Region, Mark Stout to Senior Vice President / General Counsel, Darren Amato to Divisional Vice President / Acquisitions and Taylor Vaughan to Area Vice President / Leasing.

Lee Brody, Senior Vice President / Director Mid-Atlantic Region

Lee joined Weingarten in 2007 as an Associate Director of Leasing in Atlanta, was promoted to Vice President in 2010, Director Mid-Atlantic Region in May, 2013 and Senior Vice President in 2016. In his role, he has been particularly successful directing the leasing of new developments like Hilltop Village Center, Wake Forest Crossing II and Nottingham Commons as well as leading the Mid-Atlantic region’s leasing office. Lee has been a member of ICSC since 1998 and is an active participant of the organization. Since 1998, Lee has held the ICSC designation of CLS (Certified Leasing Specialist).

Mark Stout, Senior Vice President / General Counsel

Mark joined Weingarten in 1994 as an Assistant Counsel in the Legal Department, and has earned multiple promotions throughout the years, including Vice President of Legal Leasing, Associate General Counsel, and most recently as Vice President/General Counsel. Mark is a member of the State Bar of Texas as well as a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation where he has served on the nominating committee. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Darren Amato, Divisional Vice President / Acquisitions

Darren joined Weingarten in 2003 and has worked on various acquisition, disposition and joint venture projects. He has most recently held the position of Director of Acquisitions. Darren has a unique combination of common sense and creativity which has been critical in the success of Weingarten’s acquisition program over the last several years.

Taylor Vaughan, Area Vice President / Leasing

Taylor joined Weingarten in 2009 as a Leasing Executive in our Phoenix office where he was a consistent top producer. Taylor currently offices in Orange County and in his role, he will manage the leasing efforts for the Western Region from San Diego to Seattle.

Philippines: Manila-Acapulco Galleon Museum to launch at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City

Pasay City, Philippines, 2016-Mar-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Museo del Galeon, Inc. is bringing to life the country’s trade heritage with the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Museum at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

Set to be launched in the third quarter of 2016, the dome-shaped museum’s main feature is a replica of the Galleon ships used for trade. Ushered by SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. (SMLEI), the entertainment solutions company of SM Prime Holdings, the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Museum aims to give visitors a detailed history of the 250-year old global trade route where the Philippines and Mexico played major roles. The museum will highlight the galleon trade’s impact on today’s commerce, banking, travel, and cultural exchange. The dome will showcase the actual process of building a galleon, while exhibiting relics such as porcelain, gold, and other goods that were traded in the Spanish era.

The Galleon Museum is part of the ongoing redevelopment of the SM Mall of Asia that will expand its floor space from the current 406,962 square meters to a gross floor area of around 700,000 sqm. Upon completion in 2017, SM Mall of Asia will regain its status of being the largest mall in the Philippines, a status currently enjoyed by SM North EDSA which has a GFA of 497,912 sqm.

Philippines: SM Foundation ended 2015 on high note as four of its scholar-graduates topped the 2015 national licensure examinations for engineering

SM Foundation celebrates board topnotchers and donates 8 school buildings

Pasay City, Philippines, 2016-Mar-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — SM Foundation ended 2015 on a high note as it welcomed another first for its college scholarship program—four of its most recent scholar-graduates topped the 2015 national licensure examinations for engineering. These students are part of SM Foundation’s most recent batch of scholar-graduates. Of the total of 264 graduates for school year 2014-2015, 62 of finished with latin honors and academic distinctions.

The college scholarship also welcomed its newest batch of SM scholars for school year 2015-2016, opening new doors and creating new opportunities for 267 public high school graduates. These students have now joined the program’s 1,500 current SM scholars and are now enrolled in SM Foundation’s 84 partner schools nationwide.

Aside from its college scholarship, SM Foundation also provides opportunities for technical-vocational education for qualified public high school graduates who would like to pursue higher education for a shorter period of study. The scholarship is offered to equip today’s youth the right skills and competencies to fulfil the needs of today’s competitive labor market.

Through its two partner schools—Punlaan School and Don Bosco Makati Technical Institution—SM Foundation offers technical-vocational courses such as Food and Beverage, Automobile Mechanic, Fitter Machinist, Electro-Mechanical Technician, and Refrigeration and Air-conditioning. A total of 148 technical-vocational scholars graduated last year from this program.

As of end 2015, SM Foundation has already supported a total of 2,627 students nationwide for both scholarships.

SM Foundation also continued to support public education through its School Building Program. In 2015, SM Foundation completed eight school buildings with 32 classrooms. Each building is a 2-storey, 4-classroom structure which came furnished with 200 student armchairs, 16 wall fans, eight blackboards, four teachers’ desk sets and four toilets.

One of last year’s beneficiaries is the Wawang Pulo Elementary School in Valenzuela. With 868 students enrolled in the school, each classroom serves an average of 40-60 students per classroom. Before the new school building was donated, students borrowed rooms from the nearby Wawang Pulo High School Building for their classes while students from the special education class made use of the 2nd floor hallway.

This new addition, donated by project partners SM Prime Holdings, Inc., SM Foundation and Deutsche Bank Ag Manila, created a better learning environment for the students by providing permanent rooms to 395 students, of which 15 are special education students.

SM Foundation also ensures that its donated school buildings are regularly maintained by repairing and renovating its school buildings after every five years. In 2015, SM Foundation repaired 6 school buildings.

By end of 2015, SM Foundation has already donated a total of 75 school buildings with 227 classrooms and repaired 24 school buildings with 58 classrooms since its school building program started.

SM Foundation believes that education is a person’s strongest weapon against poverty. As such, it continues to commit itself in investing in its education programs to empower the youth in creating more self-sustainable communities in the future.

Matthews, N.C., 2016-Mar-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Today, Harris Teeter announced it is donating $478,022.78 to schools this month through Together in Education (TIE), Harris Teeter’s fundraising program for schools in its communities. This is the second of three payouts the Company will make to schools during the current school year. This payout also brings the total donated since the program’s inception in 1998 to over $23.8 million.
