Berlin, 2017-Oct-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Zalando, Europe’s leading online fashion platform, sent out the first parcel from its fulfillment center in Brunna yesterday. Earlier in May this year, Zalando fruitfully completed its location search for the first Nordic fulfillment center in Sweden in order to better serve its customers in the Nordics. The fulfillment center in Brunna, close to Stockholm, is operated by the local partner Ingram Micro. The test operations just commenced and logistics processes will be further ramped up over the course of the next months.

“We are continuously advancing our logistics network and strive to be internationally well positioned in order to keep improving our localized offer. The fulfillment center will ensure that Zalando’s strong and growing customer base experiences a more convenient service and receives orders faster in all Nordic markets. The first parcels will be shipped today, and full operations are expected to be secured in 2018. The satellite warehouse in Brunna will decrease lead times significantly, enabling next day deliveries to all Nordic capitals and the possibility for same day delivery in Stockholm”, says Kenneth Melchior, Nordic Cluster Head at Zalando.

The fulfillment center in Brunna is ideal strategically due to its geographic location. The position close to Stockholm in combination with the sophisticated infrastructure at hand, will make it possible to cut lead times in half. Denmark and Sweden will see the average delivery time decrease to 1-2 days from 2-5. Finland and Norway can expect a decrease to 1-3 days instead of the current 3-7. The fulfillment center will moreover provide a foundation for testing new services catering to changing customer needs, like the return on demand pilot ‘Zalando Hämtar’ currently running in Stockholm.

United Kingdom, 2017-Oct-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Partner, A.F. Blakemore, is celebrating 100 years of business and has undertaken a number of new initiatives that add value to the local communities it serves.

Installation of defibrillators

The partner has purchased 10 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be installed at seven main sites including head office and distribution centres, reflecting their commitment to creating a good working environment for employees.

At each of the seven sites, the defibrillators will be located on the wall in lockable boxes. In the case of an emergency, the code for the box can be retrieved by calling 999. No training is required to use a defibrillator and applying it to someone who does not need it will not cause harm.

The company’s Group Health & Safety department will be promoting awareness amongst colleagues along with the support of Duncan Parsonage of Abacus Training – a state-registered paramedic with a mission to ensure timely public accessibility to defibrillators in emergencies.

Group Board Director, Tom Blakemore, said: “As a large family business we have a responsibility to provide access to the most up-to-date life-saving equipment should an emergency ever arise. A defibrillator is an essential step in the chain of survival when dealing with sudden cardiac arrest, and by making plans to install 10 at our larger sites across the business with higher footfall, we have made sure that staff and visitors to the buildings receive the best possible chance.”

Celebrating 100 years with ‘100’ challenges

As part of A.F. Blakemore & Son’s centenary celebrations, a number of Blakemore colleagues have raised more than £5,000 by taking part in a series of unusual and challenging ‘100’ themed fundraising activities.

Colleagues set individual and group challenges with a centenary theme to raise money for various charities of their choice, including the Alzheimer’s Society, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, and Bloodwise, a leukaemia and lymphoma research charity, to name just a few.

Some challenges were personal goals, with several colleagues aiming to lose weight by the 100thyear anniversary, while others organised 100-mile walks and bike rides.

Slovenia, 2017-Oct-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Twelve ideas, twelve products, one winner. SPAR Slovenia together with the Formitas Agency and POPTV broadcasting company, entered into an innovative seven-month partnership to give young Slovenian entrepreneurs the chance of an exclusive business opportunity with the possibility of winning a long-term contract with SPAR.

The concept

With the possibility to enter open to anyone, many applications were received from which 12 start-ups were chosen and given the opportunity to win the title Hit product 2016. POP TV, the most popular TV channel of the country, aired 10 innovative one-hour shows between September and December 2016, featuring the products which kicked off the race and revealing the touching personal stories behind the creations.

Instore, digitally equipped shelves were used to interactively present the stories of the products and their creators. Personal sales promotions by candidates added an additional personal approach. SPAR Slovenia also mentored the candidates and gave its commitment to sell the winning product in SPAR stores nationwide.

Start it up, Slovenia! was promoted through various channels including TV coverage, the show’s web page, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and SPAR Slovenia’s own website. All of the communication consistently invited everyone in Slovenia to support their favourite start-ups by purchasing their products, helping to make at least one of them the winner.

Twelve strong ideas

The business ideas presented by the young entrepreneurs in SPAR and INTERSPAR stores in Slovenia were innovative and ambitious, varying from fresh chilli sauces, traditional Slovenian miniature cakes, colourful designer socks, handmade natural deodorant, tattoo care, chocolates, salts, locally brewed beer, handmade toys, an urban garden to grow spices, an automatic system to turn off the lights of motorcycles, and a strategic social game.

Remarkable results

The young entrepreneurs were delighted but overwhelmed: “This moment represents our future, freedom and repayment for all our efforts. When we signed the contract with SPAR, we felt incredibly proud, but at the same time it is a great responsibility to stay relevant to the market and become even better with SPAR as a partner.”

In addition to the winner, who produced Nelipot handmade natural deodorant, nine other young start-ups signed a contract with SPAR. Another remarkable result was the fact that the products from seven entrepreneurs remained category leaders in SPAR stores up to three months after the TV show ended.

SPAR Slovenia attracted younger customers through this initiative, changed the perception of the brand, gained 12 unique products, which differentiated the retailer from others, achieved strong sales results and benefited from a lot of publicity and coverage in social media.

Igor Mervič, Managing Director at SPAR Slovenia, is enthusiastic about the Start It Up, Slovenia! project, and is optimistic that the story will continue: “I am convinced that all entrepreneurs have great opportunities to succeed. With nine, we have signed one year contracts. I congratulate them on everything they have been able to accomplish.”

Communicating the idea

The 10 TV-shows were aired every Sunday evening, presenting the stories of 12 young and innovative Slovenian entrepreneurs. After each episode, the new business heroes were interviewed and featured in business and lifestyle articles, advertorials, SPAR media (leaflets and magazine), and in SPAR TV ads.

Strong social media support linked together the accounts of entrepreneurs and partners. The engagement was additionally boosted by Facebook live-streams, prize-winning competitions, unpublished recordings, best show excerpts, behind the scenes, project updates, etc. Social media influencers (e.g. former Miss Universe Slovenia) snapped pictures using #StartitupSlovenia products.

Awards

The success of the promotion of entrepreneurship amongst producers in Slovenia resulted in recognition at the WARC Innovation Awards 2017, which awarded silver to the campaign for being one of the most innovative in the world. Marketing Magazine awarded Best Marketing Campaign in the Adriatic region, whilst the Slovenia Advertising Festival awarded the grand prize for the best integral communication campaign. The campaign also won the 2017 AmCham Award for Innovation.

Season 2

The success and international recognition of this campaign exceeded all expectations. The show became something of a movement in Slovenia, reflecting the current global trend of a generation that wants to positively impact the world. Due to the great success, the second season was launched in September 2017. Eight young entrepreneurs are once again competing to win the support and loyalty of SPAR customers in Slovenia.

NCR Corporation sponsored one of North America’s largest hackathons, HackGT

More than 1,000 student developers from around the country—selected from a record-setting group of more than 3,000 applicants—tested their creativity by developing cross-industry solutions and applications to create better consumer experiences.

Twenty hackathon teams became the first third-party users of NCR’s open API on the Omni-Channel Decision Support Platform (ODSP), which will be made available to selected NCR partners and third-party developers via a ‘Developer Portal’ next year.

Held in Atlanta—the “Silicon Valley of the East”—HackGT challenges young developers to create new industry solutions such as ordering and delivering, smart promotions and offers, and advanced analytical models based on hypothetical transactional data.

This was the first-year NCR sponsored this event, in which 20 teams of up to four students explored potential solutions using the ODSP and hypothetical data sets created by NCR for the students to use as catalog and transactional data.

The winning team developed a mobile commerce application that uses NCR’s Ordering API, Catalog API and analytics to make mobile ordering easier for consumers. Members of the winning team that developed the app will each receive an iPhone X and be offered a summer internship with NCR’s software division.

The certification covers NCR Epsilon, which enables credit and debit EMV transactions for the NCR RPOS and StorePoint POS solutions.

The Wayne iX Pay™ payment platform has consistently been the first to meet the industry’s rigorous regulatory demands to help deliver an increased level of payment security. By having an NCR outdoor EMV certified solution, retailers who encounter high risk fraud and have locations subject to high fraud rules can implement EMV payments outdoors and help reduce their exposure to chargeback expenses.
