Brits brace for snow in spades

Halfords are rushing snow shovels into stores in a major operation to keep motorists on the move.

As wintry weather makes its way across the UK, Brits fearful of being caught out by snow have been racing to buy snow shovels.

Halfords, which this year has ranged the foldable snow shovels for the first time, have been forced to order five times more shovels than originally forecast due to popular demand.

The high street motor parts and accessories retailer also reported snow chains flying off the shelves and saw sales of snow socks and traction tracks, also new this year and designed to help tyres grip in frozen conditions, soar.

Customers were also stocking up on salt, deicer and antifreeze.

Mark Dolphin, Halfords Winter Motoring Expert said: “There’s always a rush for winter products when the cold weather comes. Unfortunately many leave it too late. Good preparation can help avoid breakdowns, accidents and save money.

“Attitudes towards safe winter motoring are changing. We even sold a surprising number of ice scrapers and antifreeze during the October heatwave as people began to prepare for winter in advance.”

A recent survey by Halfords revealed that 42 per cent of motorists thought they were better prepared for winter this year.

UK POS makes branding a breeze for Bolton Wanderers

The right signage can make or break an event and high specification visual merchandise adds that professional element. UK Point of Sale (UK POS) has made branding a breeze for Bolton Wanderers Football Club, by supplying portable flags for use in its Reebok Stadium.

UK POS’ air and breeze flags have been designed with versatility in mind and are specially engineered to be lightweight and portable, meaning they are the perfect event accessories. The flags are eye-catching and ideally suited for both indoor and outdoor use, meaning they were the right solution to guide supporters around Bolton’s home ground, the Reebok Stadium.

Mike Needham, Head of Marketing at Bolton Wanderers Football Club, commented: “We recently used UK POS for the procurement of a number of highly visible and high profile flags to allow supporters to identify customer service staff around the Reebok Stadium.

“Despite giving UK POS a very tight deadline for the turnaround of production and delivery, they managed to get the flags to us before the deadline, which was much appreciated. I would have no hesitation in recommending UK POS to any other company or organisation that needs good quality point-of-sale materials.”

Debra Jamieson, Sales and Marketing Director at UK Point of Sale said: “Our flags are versatile, make great use of space and are durable, remove – (with the ability to withstand winds of 13-18mph) making them perfect for outdoor use. We were able to provide Bolton Wanders with fantastic imagery, which was essential to make sure they would guide supporters around the grounds.”

She continued: “UK POS prides itself on expert knowledge in the marketplace and exceeding the expectations of its customers with exceptional service and value. Air and breeze flags are no exception as demonstrated by a focus on creative design and practical convenience.”

Halfords Helps Dallaglio And Flintoff Into The Saddle For Cycle Slam 2012

The UK’s leading bike retailer Halfords is delighted to announce that it is providing the pedal power for the Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle Slam 2012, supported by Virgin Media.

Cycle Slam is a gruelling 2,817km charity cycle ride, from Olympia, Greece to the Olympic Park, London, to be undertaken by two former England captains and sporting legends, Lawrence Dallaglio and Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, and a team of 400 riders.

Freddie and Lawrence will be riding Boardman Performance Series Road Pro Carbon bikes supplied exclusively by Halfords. The retailer is also sending a team of mechanics, all highly experienced in maintaining road and mountain bikes, to provide technical support and the repairs and replacement parts that will be needed keep the riders on the road.

The 22 day ride starts on St George’s Day (April 23) 2012 and involves five non-stop stages of gruelling terrain across Europe. Riders aim to raise £2,012,000 for the Dallaglio Foundation (supporting Cancer Research UK) and the AF Foundation (a children’s charity raising funds to build, develop and improve child rehabilitation and physiotherapy units throughout the UK) as well as Virgin Unite (the not-for-profit foundation, helping young people in the UK to increase their employability and entrepreneurialism, as well as tackling other important issues for young people).

David Wild, Halfords CEO, said: “Supplying, servicing and repairing bikes is something we do everyday for our customers across the country. We are delighted to bring the know-how, experience and bikes, from our exclusive Boardman Performance Series range, to this special endurance event. Halfords mechanics will be on the road with Lawrence and Freddie to ensure their cycles are in top order throughout the entire ride. We wish all the riders the best of luck in raising funds for such fantastic charitable causes.”

Lawrence Dallaglio said: “We can’t wait to get on with training on our new Boardman Performance Series bikes – they’re quality machines that will definitely help us achieve the speed and power we’ll need over the 22 day event. The ride is going to be unbelievably tough, but we’re confident that with support from our Halfords mechanics and the wider team we’ll stay on schedule and exceed our fundraising target of £2,012,000.”

Penny-Wise Motorists Spend Spare Car Cash

Cash-strapped British motorists are plundering loose change from their cars to the tune of an estimated £27million, as fears over the economy take hold.

A new report by Halfords shows there has been a 16 per cent drop in the amount of petty cash kept in the country’s 34 million registered vehicles over the past 12 months.

Motorists feeling the pinch are raiding the stash of coins left in the ashtray and door side pockets, which they used to save to pay for parking and the occasional snack or drink.

The study, which Halfords has dubbed the “loose change economic index”, has revealed that today motorists knowingly keep on average £4.60 in their car, a significant drop from a year ago when £5.40 was the average amount stored in vehicles.

Across the UK, that translates from an estimated £183 million kept in cars 12 months ago, down to £156.4 million worth of small change in vehicles today.

The survey of over 2000 drivers asked them to keep a record of spare cash left in vehicles over a 12-month period. Over three quarters of those polled said they deliberately left spare change in the car or van to pay for parking in towns or at railway stations.

Just over a quarter (26 per cent) said they used the cash to buy the occasional drink or snack when filling up with petrol or at a motorway service station, although half of motorists said they were buying fewer treats than a year ago.

One in 12 (8 per cent) said they kept a £10 note hidden in the car in case they ran out of petrol, down from 10 per cent who kept the same emergency cash a year earlier and 82 per cent said they now regularly check their car for dropped and lost coins.

The downturn of 16 per cent in the amount of money left in cars over the past 12 months reflects a decline in disposable income and is three times the annual inflation rate, which latest figures showed running at 5.2 per cent. During that time petrol has gone up from an average 117.7p a litre to 134.5p a litre.

Halfords Motoring Expert, Mark Dolphin, said: “We know that times are tough for motorists and we’re trying to help ease the burden by offering affordable, value for money products and services. This includes our popular We Fit service, which fits bulbs, wiper blades and car batteries whilst you wait, and our garage network, Halfords Autocentres, which carries out dealership-quality work at value prices.

“Keeping your car well-maintained is the best way to ensure cost effective motoring.”

Collation Service Offered to ‘The Big Four’ by UK POS

Retailers are consistently planning ahead, and with seasonal promotions and sales it is often important for ‘The Big Four’ to ensure that point of sale kit is uniform across outlets, and as a result of this demand, UK Point of Sale is now offering a collation service to its customers.

Through this valuable service, businesses can order sets of point of sale items, and have each set delivered to any of their stores across the country. UK POS observed that high profile retailers such as ‘The Big Four’ and department stores had a growing need for this service, especially at times of seasonal promotions.

As a result, UK POS’s collation service now allows retailers to order point of sale items such as sets of double hook wires, hanging buttons and poster holders in bulk, and then have them collated by UK POS and delivered nationwide to a large number of stores, therefore reducing the amount of time spent organising deliveries by the customer.

Debra Jamieson, sales and marketing director at UK POS, commented:
“We’re really pleased to be able to offer this service to all of our customers, and we definitely see the demand grow in the run up to Christmas. Our customers simply provide us with a list of individual store requirements detailing the quantities of items and we are able to collate, pack, label and distribute items nationwide, which results in quicker delivery items and a smoother procedure due to our experience and knowledge of the products.”

She continued:
“We are always aiming to make the process easier for our customers, as often the marketing departments of the big retailers do not have the resources to process thousands of point of sale products. We offer this service across a wide spectrum of businesses and across all our products, whether some items are large and some are small, we can still offer the collation service and guarantee that all items will arrive at the correct destination and in great condition.”

UK POS has been manufacturing point of sale products for nearly 25 years and is continually adapting to changing market trends when it comes to working with retailers to market their offers. Discount Stores Growth Increases Spend On Point Of Sale

As much of the high street struggles in these difficult economic times, one retail sector is growing: discount stores. From budget supermarkets to ‘pound’ stores, the market share of these shops is growing* and as a result they are spending more on drawing customers into the store and boosting sales.

With many of these cut-price retailers selling a wide variety of products, from food to homeware, point of sale is an essential part of their artillery, says UK Point of Sale (UK POS), which has seen a significant increase in orders from discount retailers over the past year.

Key point of sale products, such as shelf talkers help retailers to promote their low prices, and maintain a brand image, which is friendly and approachable. While snap frames are simple but effective items which can be reused throughout the shop, dump bins are ideal for near the till area for impulse purchases, both of which are an important part of keeping an image constant throughout the aisles. The pallet cardholders are often favoured by discount stores, as they are able to sell directly from the pallet and can be emphasised with banner stands. While other items such as double hook wires are used for suspending ceiling posters, which can be used to guide consumers around the aisles in an effort to increase the amount of time spent in store, and therefore improve sales.

Debra Jamieson, Sales and Marketing Director at UK POS, commented:
“We have recently seen a huge surge in orders from a number of these discount retailers, which has coincided with news that these cut-price stores are consistently growing in popularity. Items being ordered by these retailers seem to be similar, as they are all aiming to achieve large sales figures by promoting low prices.”

She continued:
“These retailers can also be creative with their branding in order to have a greater visual impact; this in turn leads to an opportunity to cross-sell in the aisles or at the tills. Although online shopping is becoming increasingly popular, these stores have an advantage in terms of point of sale, and they are definitely acting on it.”

Boost Sales With Flexible Solutions

With the autumn/winter season upon us and the promise of winter sales and indeed the sedentary housing market motivating consumers to make a house a home, UK Point of Sale is helping retailers to get the most out of their furniture displays with its flexible wallets.

Retailers can control the ambiance of their store with lighting and music, but navigating the aisles can be a frustrating process when consumers don’t have the information they need. Designed with style and clarity in mind, flexible wallets are the perfect solution for the display of full product specifications and pricing, while not distracting from the design of the product.

The flexible wallet is easy to update with only a ticket or label printed on paper, meaning it is reusable throughout the store for a variety of displays. Perfect for furniture displays, lighting, Christmas decorations and even January sale displays the flexible wallet is durable and versatile.

Debra Jamieson, Sales and Marketing Director of UK POS, commented:
“Our flexible wallets are an essential part of a retailers’ point of sale kit, particularly in the furnishings sector. The clear non-invasive design makes them perfect for any product line, from beds and pillows to dining tables and lighting departments, and at a time when retailers are looking to maximise sales by expanding product ranges, the wallets can be used throughout the store and reused across different product lines.”

The flexible wallets are available from sizes A7 to A4, with other sizes available on request, and are manufactured in 190 micron clear PVC.

Millions of Motorists Face Costly Winter Reality Check

Almost ten million motorists are risking breakdowns in freezing conditions by failing to prepare for the hazards of winter driving.

With gales, frost and even snow predicted to hit Britain by the end of this month, a worrying 32% of car owners have neglected to make the simplest check on the level of anti-freeze in the engine or top up the windscreen wash, according to a new survey for Halfords*.

Over 60% fail to inspect tyres, one in 12 (8%) don’t examine their windscreen wipers or their vehicle lights and 18% don’t know what condition their battery is in.

While the figures are stark, the position is actually an improvement on last year. Following three harsh winters, more drivers are making preparations for a cold snap. Four in ten (42%) claim they are better organised than last year, when the lowest temperatures for 15 years caused massive travel disruption.

Some 5% of car owners say they have already bought winter tyres while thousands have taken advantage of garages offering “winter checks”.

Car, leisure and cycling retailer Halfords said it had ordered in extra supplies of winter motoring products including snow chains, snow socks, snow shovels, de-icer, ice scrapers and screen-wash effective in temperatures down to minus 20C.

We even sold a surprising number of ice scrapers and anti-freeze during the October heatwave as people began to prepare for winter in advance.”

Halfords offers a free Five Point Car Health Check where a trained fitter will check your lights, blades, screenwash, oil and battery condition. Halfords Autocentres offers a more comprehensive 12-point Winter Inspection, which addresses the parts most at risk including tyres, alternator, starter motor and antifreeze.

In a report into the chaos caused by last winter’s big freeze the House of Commons Transport Committee put the cost of the transport disruption which left millions stranded at £280m a day, while the cost to the country’s economy was put at £6 billion. Millions of workers also found themselves losing pay as a result of not being able to get to work.

The Highways Agency has already launched a campaign to encourage drivers to prepare for winter weather.

Discount Retailers Investing In Point Of Sale

Discount retailers investing in point of sale October 26, 2011.

The UK’s discount retailers are looking to make the most of the current economic climate by appealing to cash-strapped consumers through the use of point of sale products.

According to industry leader UK Point of Sale, orders from businesses which specialise in offering discount products have increased significantly over the past 12 months. As consumers’ disposable income continues to be squeezed, these companies are keen to appeal to shoppers looking for high street bargains and are using point of sale items such as pavement signs and cable displays in order to attract them through the doors.

According to UK Point of Sale, products such as shelf talkers, signs which can be mounted on the edge of shelves, are being used to advertise low prices and grab shoppers’ attention. Such items are also favoured as they can be used to maintain the company’s brand image.

Debra Jamieson, sales and marketing director at UK POS, said: “We have recently seen a huge surge in orders from a number of these discount retailers, which has coincided with news that these cut-price stores are consistently growing in popularity. Items being ordered by these retailers seem to be similar, as they are all aiming to achieve large sales figures by promoting low prices.”

Dump bins, which can hold a large number of products and are often used by retailers to attract attention at the tills and encourage impulse purchases, have proved to be increasingly popular over recent months. Likewise, double hook wires which are used to suspend ceiling posters are proving popular with discount firms keen to grab the attention of consumers in their aisles.

Debra added: “These retailers can also be creative with their branding in order to have a greater visual impact, which in turn leads to an opportunity to cross-sell in the aisles or at the tills. Although online shopping is becoming increasingly popular, these stores have an advantage in terms of point of sale, and they are definitely acting on it.”

He added “We are also impressed by its content filtering features, which can be used to adhere to acceptable use policies within businesses; this can limit the risk of employee time wasting and stop the bandwidth being blocked up by the use of high volume activities such as downloading videos.”

BBC Banned TomTom Exclusive Stocks Available At Halfords, While Stocks Last

A Halfords spokesman said: “We are disappointed with the decision by the BBC on behalf of our customers who told us they loved the product. It was proving hugely popular.

“While we have plenty of stock at the moment we will not be able to replace them when they are gone, so the strident tones of Mr Clarkson will be appearing in Halfords for a limited time only and after that he will be silenced, at least on a sat nav.”

Featuring TomTom’s congestion-busting HD Traffic technology, the new satnav will steer drivers through traffic jams and is packed with Top Gear features including start-up and shut-down screens and car icons. Drivers can choose to have The Stig mode, which renders the device instantly silent, or select Jeremy Clarkson’s voice to guide them.

At £179, the TomTom GO LIVE Top Gear edition includes one year of TomTom’s LIVE Services for free. The flagship service is TomTom HD Traffic, which delivers dynamic routing and accurate traffic information every two minutes. HD Traffic gives drivers detailed incident reports, length of delays and reason for them, accurate travel and arrival times and alternative route proposals.

The LIVE Services bundle also includes the Speed Cameras service, providing mobile and fixed speed camera alerts, while TomTom Places local search helps to pinpoint shops and businesses in the area. QuickGPSfix gets you navigating in seconds and TomTom Weather gives local and five-day forecasts.

Available exclusively at Halfords in the UK, more information on the TomTom GO LIVE Top Gear edition at www.halfords.com.

The Howard London Entire Contents to be sold at Auction

Pro Auction of Bath announces an auction of the entire contents of The Howard Hotel, London’s world renowned five star establishment, and sister hotel to The Savoy, to be held on the 25th & 26th October 2011. The entire contents will go under the gavel over a two day auction and will encompass everything at the premises, from the 189 luxury bedroom contents to the designer inspired guest areas, including the bar, foyer areas, library and the fully fitted award winning restaurant. Day two will see the sale of the fully equipped kitchens, housekeeping administration areas on the 26th October 2011.

The sale will be live from The Howard Hotel premises, and webcast over the internet via the Bidspotter platform. Viewing is available to the public on Monday 24th October and prior to the sale commencing each day at 10.30am on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The event offers both the hospitality industry and design specifiers an unrivalled opportunity to purchase the contents of this first class hotel at a fraction of new replacement cost. The property, has recently had an extensive, high end designer led refurbishment over the last 12 months; which was completed within the last 3 months with many items and areas in first class order and not fully “worn in”.

Items of note include the contents of the luxurious 189 hotel rooms and suites, the recently refurbished contemporary and sophisticated Mauve Lounge & Bar, Temple Place Restaurant and the Library Lounge, plus the well equipped conference facilities. The contents of lobbies, offices, modern fully equipped kitchens, together with crockery, cutlery, soft furnishings, boilers and generator, laundry equipment, housekeeping and back of house are to be included within the sale.

In total, there are over 1,300 lots – constantly upgraded mostly within the last 12 months, to meet the requirements of a five star hotel of the Howard’s position – included within the sale. A new lounge & bar, library and associated facilities, only completed and opened within last 3 months are within the sale particulars.

Further, the newly refurbished conferencing spaces installed within the last 6 months offers an opportunity to acquire “as new” condition equipment immediately available at the sale. With the inclusion of the modern gas boilers, generator and comprehensive maintenance plant & equipment, lighting and stores area lotted the sale is set to appeal to a wide audience of operators, developers and designers.

Mark Flynn of Pro Auction comments: “The auction allows operators to trade up when aspiring to five star standards, the sale presents a rare opportunity to acquire quality assets quickly and cost effectively given such a large newly refurbished 5 star hotel, only becoming available because of site redevelopment. It is possible for bidders to buy the entire contents of the bedrooms with three types of accommodation schemes to attract a variety of buyers and scales of purchase, accommodating the quality of a classic 5 star while also tempting the cutting edge design led operators”.

Along with the new modern and sophisticated designer bar and lounge areas, as well as the huge collection of designer fixtures and furnishings throughout, this sale would appeal to buyers in search of individual packages or within this rare opportunity, the chance to set up a new designer hotel at a fraction of the cost. This is one the biggest auction sales of an entire five star establishment and the event is expected to attract significant interest.

The two day auction takes place at The Howard, London Temple Place, London WC2R 2PR via two rostrums commencing at 10:30am. The auction will also be available via a live webcast. The viewing takes place from 8.30am-4.30pm on 24th October 2011. Online bidding is possible through www.bidSpotter.co.uk Catalogues are available by calling (44) 01761 414000 or via a down from the auctioneers website.

White Out Warnings See Early Deliveries Of Sledges

It’s been the coldest summer for 18 years and already shops are getting ready for this winter’s big freeze, with Halfords taking early delivery of enough sledges to stretch end to end to the top of Mount Everest.*

The retailer is preparing for the worst with everything from snow chains, shovels and metal spiked-shoe covers heading for the high street.

But the 10,000 sleds that have just been shipped in are a reminder that the latest predictions of heavy snowfalls this winter are not bad news for everyone.

Louise Robinson, product manager at Halfords, said: “We want to ensure that our shelves are full of everything our customers will need and everything they might want, to both stay safe if they are on the roads and to enjoy any snowfalls in their free time.”

The car accessories and leisure retailer has ordered ‘significantly more’ tow ropes, snow shovels, and tyre snow socks for driving in severe weather and other winter product lines, as well as stocking fun items like the Sno Slinger, which designed to throw a snow ball much further; and a snow brick maker to help with construction of the kids’ igloo you always wanted to build.

Britain forecasters are predicting that violent storms will hit Britain with severe frosts as early as November – and, while white-outs bring fun for many, they cause misery for others. Last year much of the country came to a standstill with roads and railways paralysed amid record low temperatures and arctic conditions.

Halfords is urging motorists to prepare in advance and ensure they stock up on antifreeze, de-icers, screen wash, scrapers, salt for the drive and winter survival kits designed to keep motorists moving when the weather hits.

For severe conditions, items such as snow chains are invaluable.

The company is also offering free ‘five point checks’ to ensure cars are ready for winter, as part of its We Fit service; and garage chain Halfords Autocentres is advising drivers to fit winter tyres, which perform better on icy and snow bound roads.

Halfords winter driving expert Mark Dolphin added: “We are ready to meet all conditions and we want to make sure all our customers are too.”

co-operative Xest’s New Range of Low Energy Radiators and Heated Blankets Ensure Comfort and Safety as Winter Approaches

co-operative Xest’s New Range of Low Energy Radiators and Heated Blankets Ensure Comfort and Safety as Winter Approaches.

co-operative Xest’s range of helpful home accessories and products to make everyday life easier has now expanded in time for the onset of winter, with low-energy heated blankets and radiators to keep people warm without the increased heating bills.

With the winter months fast approaching, household products retailer co-operative Xest has expanded its own range of heated blankets and radiators that are low-energy usage and perfect for frequent use without causing worry about heightened heating bills.

In the winter, many people feel the cold more than other months and it can lead to discomfort when trying to get to sleep or simply being in the home. There has been a reluctance to use some heating products in the past due to their increased energy use, which can make the winter one of the most expensive periods of the year.

The elderly, in particular, are often affected by the cold and it can lead to health complications if their homes are too cold.

Speaking about the new range of low-energy heated blankets and radiators, Andrea Dipple, marketing manager at Southern co-ops, said “One of the key concerns many of our customers have had is the additional cost incurred by using helpful items such as Luxury Heated Blankets.

“On particularly cold nights these items may need to be left on for many hours, leading to an increased electricity bill. With these new low-energy usage versions now available at co-operative Xest, it will surely prompt many more people to buy and enjoy a more comfortable and safer winter.”

The Intelliheat Luxury Heated Over Blankets, for example, have six intelligent temperature settings that adjust automatically to ensure maximum comfort when in bed, throughout the night.

co-operative Xest also sells a wide range of Mobility Aids and other products which can help around the home, all available to purchase online and with free delivery on orders over £30.

co-operative Xest Says Essential Regular Exercise Is Accessible To All

Following a recent report by health experts stating that even just 15 minutes of exercise a day can significantly improve your wellbeing and life expectancy, co-operative Xest has spoken out to remind people that exercise is possible for people of all abilities and ages.

The results of research published by medical journal The Lancet, which reviewed the activities, behaviours and health of more than 400,000 people in Taiwan, revealed that 90 minutes of moderate exercise per week can help people to live for three years longer.

Similar data in the British Journal Of Sports Medicine hinted that a lazy lifestyle, including six hours a day sitting motionless in front of the television, can reduce life expectancy by five years.

It is therefore important for people to incorporate exercise into their daily routine wherever and whenever possible – even if it is during that time spent watching television. It is especially vital that those with limited mobility take note of this, as such exercises can also improve problems with circulation and related conditions.

co-operative Xest Managing Director, Andrea Dipple said: “There are numerous exercises that can be done while sitting down, using equipment such as a Seated Pedal Exerciser. This allows the user to secure their feet into pedals and rotate in a cycling action, with variable resistance. Minimal assembly is required and it is easy to move around into convenient places.

“For those at risk or suffering from circulation problems, we recommend the Deep Vein Thrombosis Airogym Exerciser, which has a simple design created by an airline captain for use during long flights. It consists of two air compartments which can be inflated orally and can be used to exercise the calf muscles.”

According to updated advice offered by the UK government, a couple of 10-minute sessions of this kind of activity per day – or a 30-minute session on five days each week – could have a very positive impact on a person’s health. It may also gradually encourage them to be more daring with their exercise regime and build it up as they become stronger.

co-operative Xest also supplies shower seats for those with mobility difficulties, alongside a wide range of other products designed for people who want to make their everyday lives easier.

Children’s Sleep Over Craze Under Canvas

The ever-changing world of children’s birthday parties has a new craze – camping sleepovers.

Cash-strapped parents, fed up with spending hundreds of pounds hiring professional entertainers and caterers, are opting for a night under canvas and the excitement of the great outdoors to get their children in the party mood.

The new “camp-over” trend has boosted sales of pop-up tents at Halfords, with parents snapping up the new Gelert Liberty Rock, which is covered in a trendy pink and lilac floral pattern for girls’ do’s and Halfords’ two-man camouflage print for boys’ camping sleepovers.

Other accessories that have seen a surprise jump in sales due to the garden camp-outs have been fold up chairs and stools that come in pink and blue from £4.99 each.

Halfords Camping Expert Paul Fensome said: “We are delighted that our new eye-catching pop-up tent designs have proved to be so appealing to children and their parents.

“Of course, the added bonus is that the products are so competitively priced that they won’t break the bank and you can bring them out year after year for more sleepovers.”

Wiltshire mother of two Caroline Walker, 40, said: “My 13-year-old son had the time of his life at a friend’s birthday camp-over recently. They pitched their pop up tents in the garden in seconds and sat around with their torches telling ghost stories all night.

“They loved the food, hot dogs and burgers cooked on a BBQ outside and it was great to see them away from their computer games for once. It was more of an awake-over than a sleep over, but they all enjoyed it.”

A recent survey by children’s charity Lumos, set up by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, revealed that four out of ten parents spend up to £500 on kids birthday parties, with 67% admitting they found them stressful to organise and a third confessing they had to stretch their finances to pay for it.

co-operative Xest Supporting International Left-handed Day with A Number of Lefty Product

On August the 13th the world celebrates everything left-handed and this year the Co-operative Xest site is lending a hand to lefties with a number of left-handed mobility aids and home products.

International Left-handed Day is the one day of the year where left-handed people are recognised and appreciated in an arguably right-handed biased world. Left-handed products can be difficult to find in most common high street stores and can make many tasks uncomfortable or unnatural for the average left-handed person.

This is where co-operative Xest has stepped in to highlight the many products that can make being left-handed easier and more comfortable from left-handed walking sticks to specialist cutlery designed with the left-handed person in mind.

The company that specialises in helpful products that make every day life easier understands many situations where difficulties could arise from something as seemingly small such as opening jam jars, to providing support and stability via walking sticks and walkers for those who are unsteady on their feet.

As Andrea Dipple, Managing Director at co-operative Xest mentions, left-handed people are much less of a minority these days and there is a definite call for left-handed products;

“There is much more demand these days for left-handed products whether they are left-handed scissors that are less laborious to use or left-handed walking sticks that help to support the body’s weight comfortably.

“There are many high profile left-handed personalities ranging from US President Barack Obama to author Lewis Carroll and actor Robert DeNiro. But as well as the more famous left-handed people it is estimated 10% of the world’s population is left-handed.

Andrea added, “this is why here at co-operative Xest we have made sure to stock a wide range of left-handed products that ensure left-handed people are not inconvenienced or have to adapt to right-handed products that may not feel natural or even comfortable to use”

With a number of left-handed and multi use products that suit left and right-handed people available on site as well as one handed products for those with disabilities or dexterity issues then it makes co-operative Xest a welcome resource for many different people.

Vita Audio Radios Sales Hit Record High at Dougbradyhifi.com

Stunning looks, exceptional build quality and an outstanding performance prove a winning combination, with sales of Vita Audio integrated music systems soaring at Dougbradyhifi.com

Beautifully crafted integrated music systems rarely score top marks across the board, but Vita Audio Systems are an exception. The brand was formed in 2006 and rapidly became one of the leading suppliers of D.A.B radios, with fans enamoured with the exceptional sound quality and sleek retro styling of its digital radios and music systems.

“It’s rare to find such a compact music system with such a high technical specification, let alone one that offers an outstanding performance across the board” says Doug Brady Product Manager Stephen Oakes. Ever since the Vita Audio R4i was released online and at the Cheshire store it has been a bestseller, with customers impressed by the power and quality of sound which can come from such a small music system.

The R4i is the most comprehensive music system from the Vita Audio range, offering the full range of digital media options including a slot loading multi format CD player, USB port for playback of music files and iPod dock in addition to the DAB/DAB+/FM tuner which is a standard feature of the full Vita Audio range.

The Vita Audio R4i combines technology more frequently seen in high quality separates than compact music systems. Vita Audio developed its own powerful speaker and amplifier system for the R4i, using custom designed Class A-B amplifiers developed with discrete component technology. The result is crystal clear vocals, impressive bass thanks to an integrated subwoofer, and good separation of stereo in spite of the close proximity of the speakers, and the 80 watt output is more than enough for a small to medium sized room.

The R4i offers impressive sound and maximum functionality; however the Vita Audio R2i is equally well accomplished, and another bestselling Vita Audio model at Doug Brady HiFi. The R2i may not have the output of the R4i; however its 20 watt output is impressive, and features enhanced 3D sound processing and tone equaliser to get a custom sound to suit all tastes.

The R2i is a regular winner of the full complement of stars in industry reviews, and has picked up many “Best Buy” awards for its design and performance. “It may be small but it really packs a punch, and has surprisingly good range and impressive sound for such a compact system” says Oakes. The R2i features two pairs of gold plated phono inputs, clock and alarm functions and an intuitive remote control and rotodial controller for ease of operation.

Both the Vita Audio R2i and R4i are sold in three attractive veneer finishes and sleek retro styling, and their looks and outstanding performance have proved to be a winning combination at Dougbradyhifi.com with Via Audio sales soaring and hitting record highs.

Further details of the award winning range of Vita Audio digital radios and accessories can be found on: http://www.dougbradyhifi.com/s-66-vita-audio.aspx
