CVS Health survey: majority of Americans agree that the health care system is in need of reform

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Dec-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — Results of a new national survey from CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) released today (November 30, 2017) found that over half (56 percent) of Americans say the U.S. health care system does not work well for them, while overwhelming majorities agree the system is in need of reform (73 percent) and is currently too politicized (69 percent).

The State of Health Care in the United States.
Of those Americans frustrated by the current state of U.S. health care, 65 percent say it is too expensive, and the affordability of health care, health insurance and prescription drugs top the list of Americans’ most urgent concerns.

The results of the national survey of 2,201 adults, conducted online by Morning Consult on behalf of CVS Health in October 2017 and released at the Forbes Health Care Summit, also found that more Americans (41 percent) believe health care in the U.S. has generally gotten worse rather than improved over the past five years. However, when it comes to their personal experience, a plurality say their own health care has largely not changed, and a larger share of Americans say it has gotten better (28 percent) than who say it has gotten worse (23 percent).

Despite generally negative views of health care in the United States, a vast majority of insured respondents (83 percent) say they are somewhat or very satisfied with their health plans. However, nearly a third report that they did not have a choice in the health plan that was offered to them.

At the same time, respondents of the survey are hopeful about the health care system’s future state, particularly for the next generation of Americans. This sentiment is particularly strong among American parents of whom 52 percent say they are optimistic their children will have better health care than they did at their age. They point to innovation as the reason, with 65 percent who say advances in health care will make lives safer and 66 percent who say advances will make lives longer.

However, the survey reveals limits to Americans’ optimism as a skeptical public questions whether effective health care reform will eliminate regulatory barriers to innovation and put patients first. According to the survey, a plurality of Americans (45 percent) feel there is too much regulation in the way of innovation in health care. Furthermore, three out of five Americans say decisions made in health care put the bottom line ahead of patients, whereas only one in five say that either decisions put patients first or they are at least considered equally with the bottom line.

“While we see significant frustration in this poll with the cost and quality of healthcare, there is a sense of hope among Americans about the future,” said CVS Health Chief Medical Officer Troyen A. Brennan, M.D., M.P.H. “These findings underscore a challenging set of pain points in the system which should serve as a catalyst for all players in health care patients, providers, payors and policymakers to work together to pursue the necessary reforms and innovations that improve quality and affordability and make a complex system easier to navigate for a more empowered health care consumer.”

CVS Health offers Meningitis B vaccines to students, faculty and staff at UMass Amherst

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Dec-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) is offering Meningitis B vaccines to students, faculty and staff at UMass Amherst, in response to two confirmed cases of Meningitis B on campus. CVS Pharmacy stores and MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics have vaccines available to protect patients against the disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) determined that the strains of the meningococcal bacteria that caused both student’s infections are closely related, meaning there may be an increased risk of the disease for other undergraduates on campus. UMass Amherst students who have not been vaccinated are encouraged to get vaccinated. In addition, anyone who has had close contact with a person who has been diagnosed with a meningococcal illness, as well as faculty and staff who have conditions such as asplenia, a complement deficiency, or sickle cell anemia, should also receive the vaccine.

Meningitis B vaccines are fairly new and most college students have not received the vaccine previously. All college students are required to receive a vaccine that protect against four other strains of the meningococcal disease (A, C, W, and Y), but that vaccine does not protect against B, which is the cause of the current infections at UMass Amherst.

Vaccination is the most effective way to protect people from meningococcal infection and CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic will be offering the Meningitis B vaccine at the following locations1:

  • 165 University Drive, Amherst, MA 01002 (MinuteClinic also available)
  • 76 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA 01002
  • 367 Russell Street, Hadley, MA 01035 (Located inside Target)
  • 366 King Street, Northampton, MA 01060 (MinuteClinic also available)
  • 90 Main Street, Northampton, MA 01060
  • 70 West State Street, Granby, MA 01033
  • Crystal Springs Plaza, 151 North Main Street, Belchertown, MA 01007
  • Route 10, 118 Northampton Street, Easthampton, MA 01027
  • 1616 Memorial Drive, Chicopee, MA 01020
  • 400 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA 01040
  • 1176 Granby Road, Chicopee, MA 01020
  • 451 Center Street, Ludlow, MA 01056
  • 250 Whiting Farms Road, Holyoke, MA 01040
  • 50 Holyoke Street, Holyoke, MA 01040 (Located inside Target)
  • 1990 Boston Road, Wilbraham, MA 01095

All CVS Pharmacy locations can order doses of the vaccine upon request and have it available the next day. Pharmacy and medical clinic staff can assist patients in determining whether the vaccine is covered by their insurance plan.

“Immunizations are an important part of preventive care and a critical way to prevent serious diseases, like Meningitis B,” said Tobias Barker, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of MinuteClinic. “Our CVS pharmacists and MinuteClinic nurse practitioners are ready to provide meningitis vaccinations to the UMass Amherst community, and can help ensure that patients stay up to date on vaccinations in the future.”

No appointment is needed to receive a meningitis vaccination. Patients should bring both their health insurance and prescription insurance cards.

CVS Health to provide Real-time benefit information to help eliminate potential dispensing delays and improve patient outcomes

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Nov-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) announced today (November 28, 2017) that its pharmacy benefits manager (PBM), CVS Caremark, will begin providing real-time visibility to member-specific medication costs and available lower-cost therapeutic alternatives at the point of prescribing and at the pharmacy. This enhanced visibility to the patient’s benefit across all points of care can help eliminate potential dispensing delays, improve patient outcomes through increased medication adherence and lower costs for members and payors.

“Patients often do not find out that the medication they were prescribed is not covered or has higher than expected out-of-pocket costs until they go to the pharmacy to pick up their prescription, which can result in patients not filling a prescription, non-adherence and, ultimately, higher downstream health care costs,” said Troyen A. Brennan, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health. “Making detailed, real-time benefit information available for our PBM members and their health care team, whether it’s the doctor or the pharmacist, can help streamline the patient experience and improve health outcomes while also lowering costs for both the patient and the payor.”

Through visibility to “real-time benefits,” prescribers can see specific benefit information for patients supported by CVS Caremark integrated directly into their e-prescribing workflow. Even before they prescribe a drug, prescribers will be able to see the cost of the drug based on the patient’s coverage, including the patient’s remaining deductible, when applicable, and will be able to review up to five clinically appropriate branded alternatives or therapeutically equivalent generic medications specific to the patient’s formulary coverage. Prescribers will also have visibility to requirements, such as prior authorization or step therapy, enabling them to immediately submit an electronic prior authorization request. In addition, pharmacists at all retail pharmacies within the CVS Caremark network will have visibility to the same list of clinically appropriate formulary alternatives provided to the prescriber, and beginning in early 2018, CVS Caremark members will be able to find lower-cost alternatives within the Check Drug Cost tool on Caremark.com.

At CVS Pharmacy, this information will be integrated directly into the pharmacist’s existing workflow, making it easy for them to engage CVS Caremark members about potentially lower-cost alternatives, based on the members’ specific formulary coverage. CVS pharmacists will also be able to easily request a prescription change from the prescriber when needed with a simple one-step process. Beginning in early 2018, as part of the company’s ongoing, enterprise-wide focus on helping patients save money, CVS pharmacists will also be able to see the associated out-of-pocket costs for CVS Caremark members. This will help ensure alignment with the member’s plan design and enable them to access the lowest cost medications within their benefit. For those members for whom drug cost is still a concern, the CVS pharmacist will also be able to share additional cost savings opportunities such as prescription discounts, when available.

“Across the CVS Health enterprise, we are focused on providing patients with the most convenient access to affordable medications, and this innovation enables us to provide our PBM members and their health care providers with direct, easy access to real-time benefit information throughout the health care continuum whether they are at their physician’s office or at the pharmacy,” said Jonathan Roberts, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of CVS Health. “No one else provides this level of member-specific actionable drug benefit information across so many points of care, which can help simplify and streamline the process of getting a patient on the most appropriate and affordable therapy and increase member engagement and satisfaction with their care.”

Medication cost can be a significant factor when a patient is deciding whether or not to fill a prescription. Yet, research shows that patients often feel they do not have adequate information about the use of formularies or the drugs covered by their plan. In addition, when required, the manual prior authorization process to gain necessary approvals for a specific drug from both the insurer and prescriber can be time-consuming for prescribers, patients and pharmacists. In fact, approximately 80 percent of physicians said manual prior authorization requests require extra work, rework and follow up, which can also delay the start of an important therapy or result in poor compliance. Altogether, this can result in medication non-adherence, which can lead to poor health outcomes and is estimated to cost the U.S. health care system nearly $300 billion each year.

Real-time benefit information is enabled through functionality from Surescripts and is available to any provider using an electronic health record system enabled with real-time benefits and electronic prior authorization. Real-time benefits further build on CVS Health’s use of electronic health records, to support MinuteClinic nurse practitioners and CVS Specialty’s care management programs.

Inditex continues its support to Médecins Sans Frontières’ medical and humanitarian relief works with €2.3 million contribution

Inditex continues its support to Médecins Sans Frontières’ medical and humanitarian relief works with €2.3 million contribution

Arteixo, Spain, 2017-Nov-28 — /EPR Retail News/ —

  • Inditex has renewed its support for Médecins Sans Frontières’ (MSF) work with Syrian refugees in the Turkish province of Kilis, on Syrian border, for the fifth consecutive year
  • Inditex’s support also extends to the Al Salamah Hospital in Aleppo, northern Syria.
  • The contribution to the two projects in this region totals €900,000
  • In addition, Inditex is funding medical care and a project to supply clean drinking water to refugees from the Rohingya community in Bangladesh, reaching around 120,000 refugees. Funds have also been earmarked to support the fight against acute malnutrition in children in Jharkhand, north-east India
  • Inditex is also reiterating its long-standing support for MSF’s Emergency Desk, financing its logistics and personnel in full through a €1 million contribution
  • Since 2008, Inditex has set aside over €21.5 million in support for MSF under the scope of their Framework Collaboration Agreement, which has directly benefitted more than 2.2 million people
  • Inditex is also reiterating its long-standing support for MSF’s Emergency Desk, financing its logistics and personnel in full through a €1 million contribution
  • Since 2008, Inditex has set aside over €21.5 million in support for MSF under the scope of their Framework Collaboration Agreement, which has directly benefitted more than 2.2 million people

Inditex has renewed its commitment to the medical and humanitarian relief work carried out by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) with Syrian refugees in the Turkish province of Kilis. It has also reiterated its long-standing support for the Emergency Desk operated from MSF’s headquarters in Spain.

Thanks to this agreement, and a total contribution of €2.3 million, Inditex’s support will also extend to the Al Salamah Hospital in the Azzaz district of the Syrian province of Aleppo. In addition, the agreement covers care for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and a programme for combatting acute malnutrition in children in India.

The agreement was signed by the chairman and CEO of Inditex, Pablo Isla, and the managing director of MSF Spain, Joan Tubau, at Inditex’s headquarters in Arteixo (La Coruña), at a ceremony also attended by the president of the medical-humanitarian organisation in Spain, David Noguera.

Projects in Turkey and Syria

Since it was set up in 2013, the Syrian refugee project in Kilis, Turkey, has become one of the leading initiatives in providing care to over 130,000 people who fled the war in their home country and are currently living in this province. In 2017, the MSF teams on the ground centred their efforts on providing mental health and psychosocial support to the refugee population affected by the scarcity of resources in the region.

Inditex has provided financial support to this project from the outset, along with aid for other initiatives designed to ease the consequences of the war in Syria. Under the new annual agreement, the Kilis refugee care programme will be given €500,000.

In addition, Inditex will provide €400,000 of financing to the Al Salamah Hospital in the Azzaz district in the province of Aleppo in northern Syria. The goal is to provide primary and secondary medical care – in the form of both emergency and regular outpatient care – to those suffering from chronic and severe illness among the 400,000 people living in the district.

MSF’s Al Salamah project has lent support to three hospitals and five health centres in Aleppo since 2012. For the last five years, the organisation’s efforts have focused on ensuring medical and surgical care; primary, paediatric and reproductive care; emergency relief; and assistance with food scarcity.

Support for the Emergency Desk

With the new annual agreement, Inditex has also renewed its financial support for the medical-humanitarian organisation’s Emergency Desk, earmarking €1 million this year. Part of this sum will be set aside to finance two of the Desk’s regional missions, specifically those in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.

MSF’s Emergency Desk is responsible for monitoring and managing the emergency interventions carried out and overseen by the mission’s emergency response teams on the ground. This readiness capability has a team of experts both in the head office in Spain, largely funded by Inditex, and in different countries around the world, and specialises in humanitarian crises.

Support for this unit is therefore vital to enable emergency intervention by MSF around the world, so that it can carry out an essential component of its mission: saving lives.

Care for Rohingya refugees

The exodus of the Rohingya from Myanmar has emerged as a new challenge for the international community. Over 582,000 people have fled to Bangladesh since violence in the region intensified last August.

Given the current scale of this humanitarian crisis, Inditex’s €300,000 contribution will help fund two key activities that MSF has been working on to help the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh: the provision of medical care to adults, children and pregnant women; and access to drinking water and sanitation in Jamtoli, Hakimpara, Unchiparang and Putibunia. According to MSF’s calculations, the assistance provided to these refugee camps could reach around 120,000 people.

Combatting severe malnutrition in children in India

Over the last ten years, MSF has looked after over 17,000 children in India, in line with the international guidelines for community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM). MSF has recently set up a project to combat malnutrition in the West Singhbhum district of the state of Jharkhand.

The programme will run for three years – until the end of 2019 – and is intended for children aged six months to five years. The ultimate goal is to bring down the mortality rate and according to MSF’s calculations, this initiative will directly benefit 411 patients.

The project will also encompass the provision of training for local nurses and education about healthy habits to members of the local community. Inditex is providing a total of €100,000 to fund this initiative.

Inditex’s aid strategy for refugees and forced migrants

One of the cornerstones of Inditex’s community investment strategy is the provision of care to refugees and migrants forced to start a new life away from home.

To tackle this situation from a range of perspectives, in addition to its collaboration with MSF, Inditex is working on a series of initiatives with other non-profit entities, particularly in four different areas:

  • Clothing donations: throughout 2017, Inditex has donated more than half a million garments to these causes through entities such as the Red Cross, Caritas, ACCEM, CEAR and World Vision.
  • The On the Colombian Borders Programme, with Entreculturas and the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS): this initiative is aimed at providing opportunities and support for the people displaced by the armed conflict in Colombia in countries such as Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.
  • The EPGO Programme: the goal of this programme is to assist people in need of international protection. These include forced migrants in countries such as Mexico, and refugees who have had to abandon their home countries, including South Africa and Lebanon.
  • The Chair for Refugees and Forced Migrants with Comillas Pontifical University: the aim is to foster academic research into migration issues as well as a collaboration between the university and non-profit organisations.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Inditex

MSF is an international medical humanitarian organisation with a presence in over 70 countries and roughly 500 live projects underway. Its overriding mission is to assist populations in distress, victims of natural or man-made disasters and victims of armed conflict all around the world.

These annual collaboration agreements are part of the Framework Agreement signed by the two entities in 2008. This Framework Agreement has materialised in contributions of €21.5 million by Inditex to the work carried out by MSF in 35 countries, directly benefitting more than 2.2 million people.

Inditex’s partnership with MSF is part of the Group’s broader social investing strategy which encompasses a series of community initiatives carried out with a number of non-profit entities with expertise in the various projects’ respective spheres of geographic influence. Specifically, in 2016, Inditex invested €40 million in social initiatives, directly benefitting over 1.1 million people.

Detailed information about each project can be found here.

NEW ZEALAND: Foodstuffs announces big reduction in sugar and sodium content across Pams and Value products

NEW ZEALAND: Foodstuffs announces big reduction in sugar and sodium content across Pams and Value products

Auckland, New Zealand, 2017-Nov-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — Foodstuffs revealed today (24 November 2017) that it has implemented a massive drop in sugar and sodium content across a wide range of Pams and Value products – ranging in some cases from a 26% reduction in sugar to an 80% reduction in sodium.

Chris Quin, CEO Foodstuffs North Island, says, “Foodstuffs has made huge strides in delivering on our commitment to reduce Childhood Obesity.  We have several programmes in place including our very effective Food for Thought nutrition education programme, but we’ve made spectacular headway in reformulating hundreds of our Pams and Value products to reduce sugar and sodium content.

“To date we have removed 4,000 tonnes of sugar and 8,000 tonnes of sodium across our private label range, this equates to 740 Asian elephants’ worth of sugar and 76,000 All Blacks worth of salt (based on their average weights).  That’s a staggering saving – all going towards ensuring our community has access to healthier foods.”

Foodstuffs has committed to reviewing and reformulating all private label products and is also encouraging suppliers to do the same.  “Our research shows that customers are looking for healthier options – and we’re working very hard to deliver on that expectation.  It’s a vast job to review each product across New Zealand’s largest grocery brands, but we are totally committed.”

The results form part of a report to the Ministry of Health later this year which captures all the initiatives Foodstuffs has put in place to enhance the health and well-being of the community.

Quin says, “Foodstuffs believes that we have a duty of care to look after every New Zealander. A core part of that promise is to ensure that all New Zealanders have ready access to fresh, affordable, healthy food.

“We are delivering on our pledge to support the Government in their drive to reduce childhood obesity; reducing sugar and sodium content in our products, expanding the reach of our Food for Thought Programme, extensive support for the Starship Foundation with a focus on healthy food education and partnerships with foodbanks throughout New Zealand. However, we’re committed to doing more.

“We have made a significant investment in the Eat My Lunch programme – which aims to deliver 25,000 healthy lunches, per week, to children in need throughout New Zealand.  This will ensure more children have full tummies so they can unlock their potential.

Foodstuffs is excited about the inroads we have made already and the plans in place to help New Zealanders enjoy a healthy future.”

USDA FSIS offers tips and resources to make this Thanksgiving safe and stress-free

WASHINGTON, 2017-Nov-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — More than 45 million turkeys are eaten on Thanksgiving Day, with a never-ending list of side dishes and desserts. The Thanksgiving meal is by far the largest and most stressful meal many consumers prepare all year, leaving room for mistakes that can make guests sick. But never fear, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is available with tips and resources to make this Thanksgiving safe and stress-free.

“Turkey and other meat and poultry may contain Salmonella and Campylobacter that can lead to serious foodborne illness,” said acting FSIS Administrator Paul Kiecker. “By properly handling and cooking your turkey, you can avoid these harmful pathogens and ensure your family has a safe and healthy Thanksgiving feast.”

Begin by following these five steps:

Wash your hands, but not your turkey

Washing your hands before cooking is the simplest way to stop the spread of bacteria, while washing your turkey is the easiest way to spread bacteria all over your kitchen. According to the 2016 Food and Drug Administration Food Safety Survey, 68 percent of consumers wash poultry in the kitchen sink, which is not recommended by the USDA. Research shows that washing meat or poultry can splash bacteria around your kitchen by up to 3 feet, contaminating countertops, towels and other food. Washing doesn’t remove bacteria from the bird. Only cooking the turkey to the correct internal temperature will ensure all bacteria are killed.

The exception to this rule is brining. When rinsing brine off of a turkey, be sure to remove all other food or objects from the sink, layer the area with paper towels and use a slow stream of water to avoid splashing.

To stuff or not to stuff

For optimal food safety, do not stuff the turkey. Even if the turkey is cooked to the correct internal temperature, the stuffing inside may not have reached a temperature high enough to kill the bacteria. It is best to cook the stuffing in a separate dish.

Take the temperature of the bird

Although there are various ways to cook a turkey, the only way to avoid foodborne illness is to make sure it is cooked to the correct internal temperature as measured by a food thermometer. Take the bird’s temperature in three areas — the thickest part of the breast, the innermost part of the wing and the innermost part of the thigh — make sure all three locations reach 165ºF. If one of those locations does not register at 165ºF, then continue cooking until all three locations reach the correct internal temperature.

Follow the two-hour rule

Perishable foods should not be left on the table or countertops for longer than two hours. After two hours, food falls into the Danger Zone, temperatures between 40-140ºF, where bacteria can rapidly multiply. If that food is then eaten, your guests could get sick. Cut turkey into smaller slices and refrigerate along with other perishable items, such as potatoes, gravy and vegetables. Leftovers should stay safe in the refrigerator for four days.

When in doubt call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline

If you have questions about your Thanksgiving dinner, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) to talk to a food safety expert. You can also chat live at AskKaren.gov, available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, in English and Spanish.

If you need help on Thanksgiving Day, the Meat and Poultry Hotline is available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET.

Consumers with food safety questions can visit FoodSafety.gov to learn more about how to safely select, thaw and prepare a turkey. For more Thanksgiving food safety tips, follow FSIS on Twitter, @USDAFoodSafety, or on Facebook, at Facebook.com/FoodSafety.gov.

Walgreens marks the 12th year of earning a perfect score from the Corporate Equality Index

Company scores 100 percent for the 12th year on Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 16th Annual Scorecard

DEERFIELD, Ill., 2017-Nov-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — Walgreens received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. This marks the 12th year Walgreens has earned a perfect score from the CEI index.

“It’s an honor to be acknowledged once again by the Human Rights Campaign for our commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce,” said Kendrick Cox, interim chief human resources officer at Walgreens. “We recognize the importance of fostering the growth and development of all our employees. Walgreens Boots Alliance does not endorse TRC Capital’s unsolicited mini-tender offer

DEERFIELD, Ill., 2017-Nov-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (Nasdaq: WBA) today (November 20, 2017) announced it has received notice of an unsolicited mini-tender offer by TRC Capital Corporation to purchase up to 2 million shares of Walgreens Boots Alliance common stock at a price of $67.88 per share in cash. TRC Capital’s offering price is 4.38 percent below the closing price per share of Walgreens Boots Alliance common stock on 10 November 2017, the last trading day prior to the date of the offer to purchase, and 4.73 percent below the closing price of Walgreens Boots Alliance common stock on 17 November 2017, the last trading day prior to the date of this news release. The offer is for approximately 0.198 percent of the common shares outstanding as of 30 September 2017.

Walgreens Boots Alliance does not endorse TRC Capital’s unsolicited mini-tender offer and recommends that stockholders do not tender their shares in response to the offer because the offer is at a price below the current market price for Walgreens Boots Alliance shares and is subject to numerous conditions. Walgreens Boots Alliance is not associated in any way with TRC Capital, its mini-tender offer or the offer documentation.

TRC Capital has made many similar mini-tender offers for shares of other companies. Mini-tender offers seek to acquire less than 5 percent of a company’s outstanding shares, thereby avoiding many disclosure and procedural requirements of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that apply to offers for more than 5 percent of a company’s outstanding shares. As a result, mini-tender offers do not provide investors with the same level of protection as provided by larger tender offers under U.S. securities laws.

The SEC has cautioned investors that some bidders making mini-tender offers at below-market prices are “hoping that they will catch investors off guard if the investors do not compare the offer price to the current market price.” More on the SEC’s guidance to investors on mini-tender offers is available at https://www.sec.gov/reportspubs/investor-publications/investorpubsminitendhtm.html.

Walgreens Boots Alliance urges investors to obtain current market quotations for their shares, review the conditions to the offer, consult with their broker or financial advisor and exercise caution with respect to TRC Capital’s offer. Walgreens Boots Alliance recommends that stockholders who have not responded to TRC Capital’s offer take no action. Stockholders who have already tendered their shares may withdraw them at any time prior to the expiration of the offer by following the procedures described in TRC Capital’s offering documents. The offer is currently scheduled to expire at 12:01 a.m. New York City time on Wednesday 13 December 2017. TRC Capital may extend the offering period at its discretion.

Walgreens Boots Alliance encourages brokers and dealers, as well as other market participants, to review the SEC’s letter regarding broker-dealer mini-tender offer dissemination and disclosure at https://www.sec.gov/divisions/marketreg/minitenders/sia072401.htm.

Hy-Vee acquires telepharmacy locations in Victor and West Liberty to expand its pharmacy access in rural Iowa communities

Victor and West Liberty telepharmacies fill prescriptions and offer OTC health items

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, 2017-Nov-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Hy-Vee, Inc. is excited to expand its pharmacy access in rural Iowa communities via telepharmacy services. Two existing telepharmacy locations in Victor and West Liberty, Iowa, were purchased by Hy-Vee and will continue to operate as telepharmacies under the Hy-Vee Pharmacy name. Both locations opened on Nov. 6, and provide patients with a direct line of communication to a pharmacist without having to leave their community.

At the telepharmacy, a prescription is processed similarly to how it would be at a Hy-Vee retail pharmacy. A pharmacist verifies the prescription for accuracy, as well as reviews the prescription for appropriateness in dosing and safety. Once the pharmacist completes an initial verification, a certified pharmacy technician may fill it at the telepharmacy location. The pharmacist provides an additional verification by checking the accuracy of the filling process via digital equipment. Pharmacists then are able to counsel the patient via iPad and telephone technology.

The telepharmacies have store fronts and offer over-the-counter health and convenience-style items. Though they do not have a full-time pharmacist, they will have a pharmacist on site 16 hours per month. Grinnell Hy-Vee is the home store for Victor, and Muscatine Mainstreet Hy-Vee is the home store for West Liberty.

“We are thrilled to provide Hy-Vee pharmacy services and maintain a personal pharmacist connection for residents in Victor and West Liberty, Iowa, through our new telepharmacy locations,” said Kristin Williams, Hy-Vee’s senior vice president and chief health officer. “Enhancing health care for our customers is a top priority, and these locations will fill prescriptions as well as offer additional health and wellness services that Hy-Vee is known for.”

Hy-Vee, Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating more than 245 retail stores across eight Midwestern states with sales of $10 billion annually. The supermarket chain is synonymous with quality, variety, convenience, healthy lifestyles, culinary expertise and superior customer service. Hy-Vee ranks in the Top 10 Most Trusted Brands and has been named one of America’s Top 5 favorite grocery stores. The company’s 85,000 employees provide “A Helpful Smile in Every Aisle” to customers every day. For additional information, visit www.hy-vee.com.

CVS Health to hire 5,000 new apprentices by 2022

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Nov-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — In an ongoing commitment to workforce development, CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) today (November 14, 2017) announced it has set a goal of hiring 5,000 new apprentices by 2022. The newly established goal, which coincides with the U.S. Department of Labor’s National Apprenticeship Week, reflects an expansion of the company’s Registered Apprenticeship program to seven additional states, including Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, bringing the total number of statewide apprenticeship programs supported by CVS Health to 18.

Registered Apprenticeships provide participants with structured training to maintain the high level of skills needed in complex fields such as pharmacy care and prescription benefit management, and equips participants with a nationally recognized credential that will help them advance in their careers.

“Apprenticeships help job creators fill open positions with skilled job seekers,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta. “CVS Health’s goal to hire thousands more apprentices reflects the strength of the apprenticeship model. The Administration is pleased to see the creation of more opportunities for Americans to learn the skills they need to find family-sustaining jobs.”

CVS Health became the first employer to launch a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship program for pharmacy technicians in 2005. Through 2017, the company has had more than 4,700 colleagues join its Registered Apprenticeship career tracks for retail pharmacy, prescription benefit management and retail store management.

CVS Health is among a growing number of U.S. companies investing in earn-and-learn apprenticeship programs, due in part to the nation’s skills gap. Today, there are more than 6 million vacant jobs that American workers are unable to fill the highest level on record, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS also reported in 2015 that the country is projected to produce one million fewer technical workers than is needed over the next decade.

“The widening skills gap in the U.S. is a significant business concern, and companies large and small are seeing this workplace strategy that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction as a viable solution to build a pipeline of future skilled talent,” said Lisa Bisaccia, EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer for CVS Health.

As part of its apprenticeship strategy, CVS Health works with community organizations across the country to source a consistent pipeline of apprentices including federal, state and local government organizations, public workforce agencies, community colleges, community-based nonprofits and faith-based organizations to provide candidate referrals from untapped pools of talent.

“Meaningful work and a defined career track can provide a source of dignity, pride and identity, which participants are able to gain through our Registered Apprenticeship programs,” added Bisaccia.

The U.S. Department of Labor has designated November 13 – 19, 2017 as the third annual National Apprenticeship Week, a nationwide opportunity for companies, trade and industry groups, nonprofit organizations, unions, labor-management organizations, and educational institutions to highlight how apprenticeships prepare American workers for the jobs of today and the future.

Asda introduces new snore shattering Pineapple Plant to its range

Asda introduces new snore shattering Pineapple Plant to its range

Leeds, UK,2017-Nov-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — Pineapple Plants are said to have snore-reducing qualities thanks to their night-time oxygen production. Exclusive to Asda, the plant could be a stylish snoring solution, according to NASA. Ideal gift for a snore-free Christmas.

There’s nothing more annoying than falling into a deep sleep, only to be woken by the sound of a chainsaw reverberating from your partner’s side of the bed. So, for the 45%* of Brits who suffer with snoring, Asda has introduced a new snore shattering Pineapple Plant to its range, said to reduce those midnight motors and help snorers – and their partners – get a better night’s sleep.

As we enter the Christmas season – which for many involves numerous parties and events – snoring will become an even bigger drain on sleep, making the plant the perfect Christmas gift for any party goers out there.

According to NASA studies, Pineapple Plants produce oxygen and improve air quality throughout the night and therefore, aid better (and quieter) sleep. With almost a quarter of Brits regularly sleeping in different rooms due to their partner’s snoring, this could be the bedroom revolution British couples have been waiting for to get them out of prickly night-time situations.

Grown in Holland, the plants take between 21 and 24 months to develop to produce the inedible, miniature pineapple that adorns the top.
Phil Smith, Asda Plant Buyer, comments: “Snorts, snuffles and splutters affect a quarter of Brits, so for those 16 million snorers, Asda’s Pineapple Plant could be a dream come true – even more-so for sleep deprived partners.

“For those lucky enough to sleep through the night without the disturbance of snoring, the plant is a chic addition to the home which is easy to care for and adds a little touch of The Tropics to any room.”

Asda’s Pineapple Plants are available exclusively at Asda nationwide until January for £12.00

Opioid overdose-reversal medication naloxone now available without prescription at CVS Pharmacy locations in Oklahoma

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Nov-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) announced today (November 9, 2017) that the opioid overdose-reversal medication naloxone is now available without an individual prescription at all of the 77 CVS Pharmacy locations in Oklahoma, including those located inside Target stores. CVS Pharmacists will be able to dispense naloxone to patients without an individual prescription under a statewide protocol giving pharmacists prescriptive authority to dispense naloxone.

“Naloxone is a safe and effective antidote to opioid overdoses and by expanding access to this medication in our pharmacies in Oklahoma we can help save lives,” said Tom Davis, RPh, Vice President of Pharmacy Professional Services at CVS Pharmacy. “CVS Health is dedicated to helping the communities we serve address and prevent prescription drug abuse and we are expanding access to naloxone to give more people a chance to get the help they need for recovery.”

“In Oklahoma, more adults die of unintentional prescription drug overdoses than in car crashes,” said Congressman Markwayne Mullin. “Now, thanks to the passage of 21st Century Cures Act and the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, law enforcement, physicians, and prescribers have more tools than ever to fight the opioid crisis. By making this lifesaving drug readily accessible to all Oklahomans, we can reverse the effects of drug overdose and prevent drug overdose tragedies in the future. Our fight against the opioid crisis does not end here, but it’s great to see a commonsense solution that will save the lives of thousands of Oklahomans each year. Just like seatbelts have helped significantly reduce car accident deaths, so will naloxone help reduce the lives tragically lost each year to drug overdose.”

Today’s naloxone announcement builds on CVS Health’s commitment to helping communities address and prevent prescription drug abuse by focusing on prevention and safe medication disposal. In 2015, CVS Health launched a community outreach program called Pharmacists Teach, which brings CVS pharmacists to local schools to talk to students about the dangers of drug abuse. More than 300,000 students across the U.S. have already taken part in the program. High school teachers and administrators can learn more about bringing Pharmacists Teach to their school at www.CVSHealth.com.

CVS Health has also joined with the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids to create the Medication Disposal for Safer Communities Program, which has donated more than 800 units to police departments around the country, collecting more than 100 metric tons of unwanted medication. In September, CVS Health announced it would expand the program to 750 locations inside CVS Pharmacies by mid-2018, for a total of 1,550 safe medication disposal locations.

In that recent announcement, the company also said it would enhance opioid utilization management to align with the CDC Guideline for CVS Caremark PBM clients and members, complementing measures already in place. And, the CVS Health Foundation added a $2 million commitment to previous investments in mitigating prescription drug abuse with support for Community Health Centers providing medication-assisted treatment and other addiction recovery services.

With the addition of Oklahoma, CVS Pharmacy now dispenses naloxone to patients without an individual prescription in these 46 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

New partnership will see more Americans with disabilities find meaningful employment at CVS Pharmacy locations

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Nov-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — CVS Health [NYSE: CVS] today (Nov. 8, 2017) announced a collaboration with the National Consortium of State-Operated Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centers (NCSOCRC) to help Americans with disabilities find meaningful employment at CVS Pharmacy locations across the country. The announcement coincides with the opening of a mock pharmacy at the Arkansas Career Training Institute (ACTI) in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The new mock pharmacy at ACTI is one of eight locations the company will open by spring 2018, and the result of the collaboration with NCSOCRC. In addition to two locations which previously opened in Fishersville, Va. and Johnstown, Pa., CVS Health plans to support mock pharmacy training facilities in Baltimore, Md., Plainwell, Mich., Smyrna, Tenn., Warm Springs, Ga., and Thelma, Ky.

Through the mock CVS Pharmacy locations, individuals with disabilities receive classroom and hands-on training in life and job skills such as providing customer service, stocking shelves and working at the cash register. Each center is installed with mock equipment and participants work closely with trained staff to learn about the roles and responsibilities of front store and pharmacy technician positions. Individuals who complete the program qualify to apply for a position at CVS Pharmacy.

The first mock pharmacy location of this kind opened at the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Va. in April 2016. Since its opening, 41 participants have completed the program and 11 have been hired for employment with CVS Pharmacy.

Kaylee Merrick, a 2016 graduate of the program, now works for CVS Pharmacy in Northern Virginia. When asked about her job, she said, ” (CVS) has open arms to anyone and they have a lot of patience. It’s always a joy to see (my regular customers) and interact with them, it’s been amazing!”
