Local grocery partners with South Salt Lake Police Department to provide Thanksgiving meals

Salt Lake City, UT, 2016-Nov-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — Fresh Market is bringing Thanksgiving to 25 Utah families this week through a partnership with the South Salt Lake Police Department. The local grocery store donated turkeys to the department’s Team Pal Thanksgiving Service Project, which provides Thanksgiving dinner to families in need throughout Salt Lake City.

“One of our biggest focuses is supporting our communities and helping those in need,” said Ryan Woodfield, sales manager for Associated Retail Operations, which operates Fresh Market. “We are grateful for the opportunity to make Thanksgiving happen for many members of the community in partnership with the Salt Lake City police department.”

This is the third year Fresh Market has participated in the service project, which provides turkeys and a box of items for a complete Thanksgiving meal. Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market offer guests flu shots at the in-store pharmacy

Salt Lake City, UT, 2016-Oct-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — The flu and winter go together like peanut butter and jelly, but are a much less appetizing combo. Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market are working to break up the unpleasant partnership by offering store guests flu shots at the in-store pharmacy. For a small fee, shoppers can get the vaccine by visiting the pharmacy at any store and speaking with the pharmacist. The program is designed to help keep guests healthy while saving them time, since they can get the shot when they come to grocery shop.

“Our pharmacies are focused on providing total wellness to our patients through a variety of consultations, classes and medications,” said Chris Sheard, Operations Manager for Associated Retail Operations pharmacies. “By offering flu shots to our guests, we are helping prevent the spread of the seasonal flu, which is something everyone can be happy about.”

The pharmacies have offered flu shots to shoppers since 2007 as a way to help protect against the seasonal illness. There is a small fee for the vaccine, but the pharmacies accept most insurance plans and the fee may be waived. The program is part of a larger initiative to provide total wellness care to patients in partnership with their primary care physician. Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market operate 42 locations across Utah.

Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market raised more than $100,000 for Make-A-Wish® Utah

Salt Lake City, UT, 2016-Sep-26 — /EPR Retail News/ — The wishes of multiple Utah children will finally become a reality thanks to several local grocery stores. Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market raised more than $100,000 for Make-A-Wish® Utah during the August star icon drive. The money raised will grant 20 wishes Utah children facing life-threatening medical conditions. As the top-selling store, Lin’s in Cedar City, Utah will host a wish proclamation (wish reveal) party in early 2017 for one child waiting to receive their wish.

From August 1-31, guests at all 42 Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market locations were invited to purchase a star icon during checkout. Any amount could be donated for the star, allowing guests to help in whatever way they could with contributions ranging from pocket change to several dollars at a time.

“Our guests are amazing and really step up to help each other out. The Make-A-Wish drive is a guest favorite and we’re so honored to be able to work with an organization like Make-A-Wish Utah to make a difference in the lives of our community members,” said Darin Peirce, south district manager for Associated Retail Operations.

Associated Retail Operations has granted more than 95 wishes since partnering with Make-A-Wish® Utah in 2010.

“It’s inspiring to see this many community grocery stores participate in a statewide campaign to help grant wishes to local children,” said Jared Perry, Make-A-Wish® Utah CEO. “This annual fundraiser is successful because of the generosity of store employees and guests. Wishes could not be granted without the support of amazing individuals and organizations. Associated Retail Operations and their guests are true community partners.”

Fresh Market in Kaysville launches online shopping and curbside pickup service — Fresh Market to Go

Salt Lake City, UT, 2016-Jul-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — Between long days at the pool, family get-togethers and vacations, there isn’t always enough time to grocery shop. Fresh Market in Kaysville is helping shoppers save time and make the most of their summer days with the launch of Fresh Market to Go, an online shopping and curbside pickup service. The program is part of a partnership with eCommerce company Rosie and available exclusively at the Kaysville location.

“Fresh Market to Go makes it possible to get the groceries you need, even when you don’t have a lot of time,” said Steve Bitter, Customer Service Operations Manager for Associated Retail Operations and Fresh Market. “We’ve trained our personal shoppers to shop for you the way you would shop for yourself. If they have any questions about your order, they’ll call or text you to make sure we provide exactly what you want.”

Fresh Market to Go makes grocery shopping simple with four easy steps. To get started, guests create a free Fresh Market to Go account on the store’s website. With their account, shoppers can select needed items and fill their cart. After they have everything they need, they can pay and select a time to pick up their order. When they arrive at the store, they park in one of the designated Fresh Market to Go stalls and text the Fresh Market to Go team to have their order brought out to their car.

There is a small convenience fee for the service, but Fresh Market to Go shoppers will benefit from all in-store ads, sales and promotions. Kaysville is the first Fresh Market location to launch the service. Guests have responded extremely well to similar programs at Fresh Market’s sister stores, Macey’s and Lin’s.

Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s and Fresh Market raised more than $30,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Salt Lake City, UT, 2016-Jul-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Thanks to the generosity of their guests, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s and Fresh Market donated more than $30,000 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The funds were raised during an icon drive held June 3-27, 2016 at the 31 locations across Utah. Guests were invited to donate $1.00 to the foundation during checkout to further research for the genetic disease. This is the second year the locally-owned grocery stores have partnered with the Foundation for the drive. Great guest support made the drive a success and this year’s donation is nearly double what the stores donated in 2015.

“We are grateful for the generosity of Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s and Fresh Market’s guests,” said Laura Hadley, executive director of the Utah Idaho Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chapter. “This donation not only allows us to continue our research, but also create new tomorrows for those individuals, including children, living with Cystic Fibrosis.”

The money raised during the drive will be used to fund cystic fibrosis research for new medications and treatment options. Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. It is estimated that more than 30,000 people in the United States alone live with cystic fibrosis and many of these cases are children. For more information about the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, visit www.cff.org.

Participating in the drive is part of Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market’s commitment to serving and giving back to the communities they serve.

Colruyt Group’s fresh market CRU opens in Ghent, Belgium

Halle, Belgium, 2015-10-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — CRU, Colruyt Group’s fresh market, is coming to Ghent. CRU announced this to the press today at the presentation of the new Matexi Kouterdreef project. CRU is a new concept created for and by people with a passion for great food, pure flavours and authentic quality products. The market will open in the spring of 2016.

Expansion of the test
Having tested the CRU concept in a renovated farmhouse in Overijse, we are now ready to expand the test to a city. The second market will be located at the Kouter in Ghent: a large open ‘market’ space with 10 trades and a lunch corner.

Child of the soil
“Establishing the second CRU in Ghent is not a coincidence”, says Jean-Pierre Roelands, CRU director: “Three of the key employees of our CRU concept were born and bred in Ghent. Wherever we go, we want to be a ‘local’. The location along the Kouterdreef is ideal to get tuned into the city centre. This test will help us determine the further roll-out of CRU.”

Enthusiastic colleagues
CRU is looking for passionate professionals for the open bakery and butcher’s workshops and the fish department. The team also needs people who love food and like to welcome and serve customers. Experience in catering is a strength. Since it is a new concept and a young team, they will have ample opportunity to grow in the trade and as a person.

Odd and misshapen produce now available for Halloween at select Fresh Market, Dan’s and Macey’s locations

  • Celebrate Halloween with Strange and Disfigured Produce
  • Unusually-shaped “Misfit” produce now sold in local grocery stores

Salt Lake City, Utah2015-9-29 — /EPR Retail News/ Available now and just in time for Halloween, select Fresh Market, Dan’s and Macey’s locations will sell produce that’s best described as odd or misshapen—Robinson Fresh and local grocers endearingly refer to this bizarre selection of produce as “Misfits™.”

Misfit produce will be sold with an attractive discount, an incentive for guests who care less about looks and more about value. The pros of buying misfit produce go beyond cost—it’s also more sustainable. In the past, unusually shaped produce was typically thrown away, contributing to food waste.

“Robinson Fresh is proud to collaborate with retailers who are helping to combat food waste and raise awareness about this growing issue,” said Drew Schwartzhoff, director of marketing at Robinson Fresh. “Our hope is that through Misfits we can change the way that the world views imperfect fruits and vegetables.”

Several different factors affect the appearance of fruits and vegetables. Inconsistent variables during growth like weather, temperature, water amounts and sunlight can change the appearance of produce. And while the appearance may be strange, the taste and quality of the produce is not compromised.

The Misfit™ produce program will be offered to guests year-round although the variety of produce will vary depending on the season and availability. Leigh Vaughn, senior produce category manager with Associated Food Stores encourages guests to check the Misfit produce area often as the variety will change frequently.

“The Misfit produce area will be a treasure hunt for guests. This week we have six Misfit produce items all at an incredible price—red and green bell peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, mandarins and navel oranges. Next week we’ll be adding avocados and limes into the mix,” said Vaughn.

Misfit™ produce will be available at the following Associated Retail Operations locations: Fresh Market Park City and South Ogden, Dan’s Foothill and Olympus and Macey’s Provo.
