According to Prime Now shopping data from last holiday, the most in-demand products changed dramatically in December thanks to impatient holiday shoppers. Here’s a look at the top trends that emerged:

Early December:

  • The Gearhead – In nearly all Prime Now locations, ethernet, HDMI, and USB cables were the top-selling items in advance of the holidays.
  • Family Bonds – Pie Face Game, Connect4, and Star Wars Trilogy Episodes IV-VI DVD were best-sellers early in the month.
  • The Gift Giver – Holiday gift wrapping, tissue paper, and gift tags were all in-demand for Prime members.

Christmas Week:

  • Party Animal – Last-minute party supplies, such as plastic tablecloths, dessert plates, and party hats were must-haves in a hurry during the days leading up to Christmas.
  • Technophile – Amazon Echo, Fire Tablets and Fire TV Sticks were the most-wanted last-minute items in Prime Now shopping carts.

Amazon Underground now with 3 times more free apps and games since launch

High Street Retailer Award for GAME.co.uk

The GAME star continues to shine brightly following the MCV 2009 Excellence Awards which took place on April 23rd at The Brewery in London. There were five retail awards in total, two of which went to GAME: High Street Retailer of the Year and Store Manager of the Year. The latter was jointly awarded to Mike Barnes and Pearl Robinson who captain the Oxford Street store.

Mike and Pearl were up against some fierce competition in the Store Manager of the Year category with Rupert Banning-Lover (HMV), Richard Pascoe (Chips), Martin Tuckwood (Asda) and Gary Noakes (Gameplayer) also vying for the top prize.

The IMRG, the leading industry body for global e-retailing, is expecting £320 million to be spent online on the 8th December, with the peak between 1pm and 2pm. It forecast that UK shoppers will spend £13.16 billion online in the final quarter of 2008, some £215 each.

This is 15% higher than the same period a year ago, but the growth is down from a 54% rise a year ago.

“Retailers and suppliers will be under extreme pressure to price competitively this year,” said IMRG chief executive James Roper.

The predictions are drawn from data obtained from 60 UK online retail sites.
