  • Finnish food retail sector still in beginner phase of digital maturity
  • Alko exceeds expectations with precise digital product information
  • Top positions in Finnish food retail, e-commerce and Nordics e-commerce

Jena, Helsinki, 2018-Mar-08 — /EPR Retail News/ — Finnish state owned monopoly for retailing alcoholic drinks, Alko, was announced Digital Leader of Nordics brands in  e-commerce. Additionally, the Intershop-based web shop was granted more top positions for the industry sectors “food retail” and “e-commerce” in Finland.

Paula Kujansivu, Vice President, Online and Supply Chain at Alko Oy: “We see our customers appreciating our offering well in our daily business and we will improve the online shopping experience based on our customers’ feedback. Getting it acknowledged also by standards of sophisticated scale is additionally motivating for us in terms of exceeding those expectations.”

Axel Köhler, COO at Intershop, adds: “A state-of-the-art technology, combined with skilled implementation talents, resulted in a successful e-commerce business. Intershop´s software is built to deliver exactly this.”

  • EBITDA of EUR 2.8 million (previous year: EUR 0.1 million)
  • EBIT of EUR 0.4 million (previous year: EUR -2.4 million)
  • “Cloud First” – focus on expanding the cloud business

Jena, 2018-Feb-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intershop Communications AG (ISIN: DE000A0EPUH1), a leading independent provider of innovative solutions for omnichannel commerce, grew its revenues by 5% and generated positive EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) amounted to EUR 0.4 million in the fiscal year 2017. This is the first time in four years that Intershop was able to increase its revenues. In total, consolidated revenues climbed to EUR 35.8 million (previous year: EUR 34.2 million). This growth is mainly attributable to the positive trend in licensing revenues and to a sharp rise in full-service revenues.

Product revenues picked up by 3% to EUR 14.1 million in the reporting period. The related licensing revenues climbed 8% to EUR 6.1 million. New customers accounted for close to one third of the revenues. In the second half of the year, the company additionally recorded a large number of incoming orders for cloud licenses, which will lead to continuous income in the following quarters. Maintenance revenues stayed at the prior year level of EUR 8.0 million.

Over the course of the year, Intershop’s service revenues increased continuously from quarter to quarter and finally reached EUR 21.7 million, up 6% on the previous year. Although consulting and training revenues, which are included in service revenues, declined by a moderate 3% to EUR 15.4 million, they again made the biggest contribution (43%) to Intershop’s total revenues. At the same time, full-service revenues rose significantly by 37% to EUR 6.3 million. This increase was attributable to the good new business trend in this segment. The share of service revenues in total revenues rose moderately to 61% (previous year: 60%).

Intershop improved its earnings notably in the fiscal year 2017. The Group’s gross margin climbed three percentage points to 49% (previous year: 46%). Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) amounted to EUR 0.4 million at the end of the fiscal year (previous year: EUR -2.4 million), while the EBIT margin stood at 1% (previous year: -7%). EBIT was slightly positive in each quarter throughout the year 2017. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose sharply from EUR 0.1 million in the previous year to EUR 2.8 million. The EBITDA margin stood at 8% (previous year: 0%). At EUR -0.3 million, the financial result was on a par with the previous year; income taxes increased to EUR 0.7 million (previous year: EUR 0.3 million). This resulted in a consolidated net loss after taxes of EUR -0.7 million (previous year: EUR -3.0 million) and earnings per share of EUR -0.02 (previous year: EUR -0.09).

Total assets of the Intershop Group declined by 8% to EUR 25.0 million as of the balance sheet date on 31 December 2017. As a result of the scheduled repayment of EUR 1.0 million in loans, liabilities to banks were reduced to EUR 2.8 million. Cash and cash equivalents dropped to EUR 8.9 million (previous year: EUR 10.9 million). Cash flow from operations stood at EUR 1.7 million, compared to EUR -0.9 million in the previous year. The equity ratio climbed from 59% to 61% as at 31 December 2017, again testifying to Intershop’s sound net assets and financial position. As of the balance sheet date, Intershop employed a total of 338 people worldwide.

Dr. Jochen Wiechen, CEO of Intershop Communications AG: “The year 2017 marked the first success of our “Lighthouse 2020” strategy. Our key task in 2018 will be to accelerate the expansion of the SaaS solutions business, as we expect this market to achieve the highest growth rates. Under the new guideline “Cloud First”, we will push ahead with the standardization of our cloud solution. The recently announced expansion of the Management Board will additionally support the company’s transformation. We are also planning to make further investments in sales and marketing. We want to continue to grow in the future, if possible faster than before.”

The Intershop Management Board is confident that the company’s growth will continue in the current fiscal year and expects Group revenues to grow moderately in 2018. Management also projects slightly positive EBIT as well as a moderate increase in gross profit and the gross margin.

The full consolidated financial statements will be published in mid-March 2018. All financials in this press release are provisional, pending completion of the statutory audit.

  • Highest score of all participants in “Current Offering” category and “Commerce Management” criteria
  • A top scorer in “Customer-facing Digital Touchpoints” and “Solution architecture” criteria
  • Intershop platform noted as “powerful platform to address complex midmarket seller needs”

San Francisco, CA, 2017-Sep-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intershop, a pioneering eCommerce technology provider, announced today that renowned industry analyst firm Forrester Research, Inc. gave Intershop the highest score of all participants in “Current Offering” category and for “Commerce Management” in its B2B Wave for midsized markets. This new report, “The Forrester Wave™: B2B Commerce Suites for Midsize Organizations, Q3 2017”, evaluates 11 top midmarket B2B commerce suite vendors for their ability to deliver enterprise-quality features at a lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and faster TTM (Time to Market). In the report, Intershop received the highest score among all vendors in the “Current Offering” category.

Forrester evaluated capabilities across major categories like mobile and emerging touchpoints, solution architecture, experience management, commerce platform capabilities (e.g., shopping cart, promotions, and pricing), and adjacent commerce suite capabilities (e.g., PIM and OMS). They targeted current offering evaluations on key areas of differentiation and innovation. Intershop scored among the highest in the “Customer-facing Digital Touchpoints”, “Solution Architecture”, and “Commerce Management” criteria.

The Forrester report notes: “Intershop is inherently strong in its commerce capabilities like promotions, channel management, and customization. On top of solid and well-built commerce features, Intershop demonstrates a strong technical roadmap and a selectively deep ecosystem of partners and developers …” According to Forrester, “Intershop offers a powerful platform to address complex midmarket seller needs”.

Jochen Wiechen, CEO of Intershop, stated “Intershop’s dedicated offering for the midsize market is comparatively young when it comes to positioning our subscription model. However, our proven technology behind it has achieved top scores once again. Therefore, we see the report as confirming our strategy and look forward to our midsize market solution leaving a growing footprint in the market.”

This placement comes in addition to Intershop’s position as a leader in “The Forrester Wave™: B2B Commerce Suites, Q1 2017” focusing on enterprise eCommerce capabilities. The world’s largest companies have continued to trust in Intershop’s innovation and vision in some cases for over 20 years. According to the Forrester report, “Intershop is a best fit for brand manufacturers that have complex channel support requirements and need particularly well-developed commerce functionality – especially order management.”

Regardless of where an organization is in the technology adoption lifecycle, they have the advantage of being able to draw from the experience of almost two decades of B2B, B2B2C, B2C, and B2X commerce and rapidly embrace digital commerce.

  • Positive EBIT of EUR 0.2 million (previous year: EUR -1.3 million)

Jena, 2017-Aug-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intershop Communications AG (ISIN: DE000A0EPUH1), a leading independent provider of innovative solutions for omni-channel commerce, increased its consolidated revenues by 10% to EUR 18.0 million in the first six months of 2017. Following on from a strong first quarter, Intershop continued the positive business trend and signed up more than twice as many new customers in the first six months of 2017 than in the same period of the previous year, half of which were companies from the wholesale sector.

Supported by the good new business trend, the strategically important product revenues increased by 16% to EUR 7.6 million. Service revenues were up by 6% on the prior year period to EUR 10.3 million. In this segment, too, new customers made a major contribution to the positive business trend. Product revenues accounted for 43% of total revenues, up from 41% in the previous year.

The gross margin rose to 50% in the reporting period (previous year: 46%). As had been announced, the cost reductions in administrative functions achieved in the context of the “Lighthouse 2020” program were used to accelerate the new sector and cloud focus through additional investments in marketing and sales. As a result, costs in this area increased by 15% to EUR 4.2 million. At EUR 8.7 million, total operating expenses (OPEX) were moderately lower than in the previous year (EUR 8.8 million).

Moreover, Intershop generated slightly positive earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of EUR 0.2 million in the first six months of 2017 (previous year: EUR -1.3 million). The EBIT margin stood at 1% (previous year: -8%). At EUR 1.4 million, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) also improved notably (previous year: EUR -0.1 million). The net result for the period amounted to EUR 28k (previous year: EUR -1.6 million), which is equivalent to earnings per share of EUR 0.00 (previous year: EUR -0.05).

Intershop posted clearly positive operating cash flow of EUR 1.8 million in the first six months of the year (previous year: EUR -1.4 million). As a result of the scheduled repayment of the loan raised in 2015, liabilities to banks were reduced by EUR 1.0 million to EUR 2.8 million as of the interim reporting date. Cash and cash equivalents declined by a moderate 3% to EUR 10.6 million, while the equity ratio climbed from 59% to 60%. Overall, Intershop’s asset and capital structure is solid.

Dr. Jochen Wiechen, CEO of Intershop Communications AG: “The good business trend in the first half of the year is already largely attributable to our new “Lighthouse 2020” strategy and the related repositioning and sector focus. We are confident that this trend is sustainable and expect to sign up a relevant number of new customers before the end the current year, especially in the B2B sector. Our cloud offering in cooperation with Microsoft is also showing a very positive trend. We feel we are well positioned to benefit from the increasing digitization of commerce and to successfully support the transformation of our customers.”

The Intershop Management Board continues to project moderately higher revenues and balanced earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) for the full year 2017.

Jena, Salzburg, 2017-Jul-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — The long-standing family-owned enterprise Gebrüder Limmert AG is securing the future of its online shop with the powerful Intershop 7.8 platform. A revenue-based licensing agreement was signed this spring. Intershop helps The Imbema Groep launch its B2B technical wholesale site

  • 180,000 items available via B2B technical wholesale site
  • New B2B online strategy puts customer first

Jena, Germany, 2017-Jun-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Imbema Groep has taken sales for its group of technical wholesale businesses online across five sectors with Intershop. The new B2B web shop features 180,000 items, 35,000 of which are available from stock across the construction and infrastructure, gas, water and energy, offshore, maritime and mobility industries.

Jan-Willem Mantel, COO at Imbema Group explains, “Our customer needs to be able to obtain his information quickly and easily, and be inspired. He is key in everything we do. Self-service, self-control and automation are part of that. In other words: a well-functioning online environment, in which the customer can find information on products, prices, delivery times, pending orders, track and trace etc. With Intershop and our implementation partner Salmon we have achieved more in the last two months than in the past five years.”

Imbema Groep had previously started shaping an e-commerce strategy with its ERP supplier. Focused on the interface and IT infrastructure rather than the customer, the initiative soon ran into issues. Once implementation times became very protracted and it became clear that functionality was severely lacking, the project was scrapped.

Research by the Imbema Groep team revealed that fewer and fewer customers have a need for interaction with sales agents. More than 50% orientate themselves online and after that 93% wish to make the purchase online. As a result, the organization has become much more focused on inspiring the customer with success stories and facilitating the online purchase behavior.

The resulting multi-business site is based on Intershop Commerce Management 7.7 and Salmon’s Sellsmart solution, both of which fully integrates with Imbema Groep’s existing ERP application.

  • Family-run business boosts international online sales of its extensive product portfolio

Jena, Germany, 2017-Jun-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intergastro Handels GmbH & Co. KG, one of the leading wholesalers for catering supplies, is expanding its international presence with the omni-channel solution by Intershop. Stefan Plate, Managing Director of Intergastro, explains: “Our core sales region today is Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but we also wish to expand internationally. Axel Köhler, COO of Intershop Communications AG, adds: “Intergastro demonstrates how wholesalers can utilize the potential of digitalization – by internationalizing business and lowering operating costs using a globally leading, versatile and future-proof commerce platform. In doing so, Intergastro significantly strengthens its market position. We look forward to being able to support the family business with our solution.”

After having analyzed various commerce platforms at length, Intergastro chose the Intershop platform which impressed with its comprehensive B2B functions and the straightforward roll-out of additional online shops. Nubizz GmbH will implement the solution in the coming months.

Intershop client Alko wins 2017 ‘IT Project of the Year’ award from Management Events 600 Minutes Executive

  • Finnish state owned drinks retailing company wins 2017 ‘IT Project of the Year’ from Management Events 600 Minutes Executive
  • B2B and B2C omni-channel commerce featuring more than 5,000 items

Jena, Germany, 2017-May-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Finnish state owned monopoly for the retailing of alcoholic drinks, Alko has won the 2017 ‘IT Project of the Year’ award from Management Events 600 Minutes Executive for its omni-channel commerce project with Intershop.

Leaving PWC and Finnline behind, the state owned business went live with its new e-commerce site in November 2016 in order to further improve the buying experience for its consumer and business customers. The new online Alko service offers deliveries to business addresses, pick-up points and purchases may also be collected from Alko stores. Featuring 5,000-6,000 items, www.alko.fi replaces a more static web presence with B2B shopping capability with a feature-rich, user-friendly online shopping site for both B2C and B2B markets.

The project, managed by omni-channel commerce consultancy, Accenture Interactive started shortly after a change in Finnish law regarding the publication of alcohol pricing online. Intershop was selected as the platform of choice following extensive competitor analysis. The decision was based on best solution fit, trust in Intershop’s partner network, and relevant references.

Intershop recorded a strong 26% increase in revenues to EUR 9.1 million in the first quarter of 2017

  • Strategy program “Lighthouse 2020” taking effect
  • Total revenues up 26% to EUR 9.1 million (previous year: EUR 7.3 million)
  • Positive EBIT of EUR 0.2 million (previous year: EUR -1.4 million)
  • Strong increase in cash by EUR 2.2 million
  • Intershop technology achieves top ratings by renowned industry analyst Forrester Research

Jena, Germany, 2017-May-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intershop Communications AG (ISIN: DE000A0EPUH1), a leading independent provider of innovative solutions for omni-channel commerce, recorded a strong 26% increase in revenues to EUR 9.1 million in the first quarter of 2017. Revenues of EUR 7.3 million had been generated in the weak prior year quarter. The good performance at the beginning of 2017 is attributable to a positive business trend in all of the Group’s revenue areas.

The strategically important product revenues rose by 49% from EUR 2.7 million to EUR 4.1 million, while service revenues increased by 12% to EUR 5.1 million. Product revenues accounted for 45% of total revenues (previous year: 38%).

While the gross margin climbed from 44% to 49% in the reporting period, operating expenses declined by 7% from EUR 4.6 million to EUR 4.3 million. As announced, the financial scope resulting from the savings was used to develop and implement new market-oriented sales and marketing measures to intensify the cloud and industry focus.

At EUR 0.2 million, Intershop generated moderately positive earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) in the first quarter of 2017 (previous year: EUR -1.4 million), which is equivalent to an EBIT margin of 2% (previous year: -19%). Operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) amounted to EUR 0.8 million, compared to EUR -0.8 million in the first quarter of 2016. The result for the period came in at EUR 0.1 million (previous year: EUR -1.5 million), resulting in earnings per share of EUR 0.00 (previous year: EUR -0.05).

At EUR 2.8 million, operating cash flow was clearly positive in the reporting period (previous year: EUR -0.9 million). Cash and cash equivalents rose from EUR 10.9 million at the end of 2016 to EUR 13.1 million as of 31 March 2017. This means that the company has a good financial basis to push ahead with the implementation of the “Lighthouse 2020” roadmap and to remain flexible in its day-to-day business. The Intershop Group’s equity ratio stayed at a comfortable level of 58% (31 December 2016: 59%).

Says Dr. Jochen Wiechen, CEO of Intershop Communications AG: “During the first three months we have laid a solid foundation to achieve the objectives we have set ourselves for 2017 as the year progresses. Moreover, the results show that the measures implemented in the context of the “Lighthouse 2020” strategy program are successively taking effect. We must now continue these positive developments. We are additionally benefiting from the latest analyses conducted by Forrester Research on the market for e-commerce platforms. We were again able to position ourselves as a leading supplier in both the B2B and the B2C segment. This success will help us very much in targeting new customers. Moreover, the analyst assessments will strengthen the relationships with our customers and increase our partners’ confidence in our solutions, as they objectively document our technological leadership.”

Intershop has confirmed its forecast for the full year 2017 and continues to project moderately higher revenues and balanced earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT).

Intershop and MAC-IT Solutions Extend Their Competencies In E-Commerce and Microsoft Dynamics NAV

  • Connection of Microsoft Dynamics NAV solution for retail and e-commerce offers new solution on Microsoft Azure Cloud
  • Jointly developed integrated solution offers optimal start for customers in digitization strategy

Jena, Germany, 2017-Mar-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intershop Communications AG and MAC IT-Solutions GmbH are extending their respective core competencies in the areas of e-commerce and Microsoft Dynamics NAV as part of their partnership. MAC IT-Solutions specializes in supporting medium-sized enterprises in the fields of e-commerce and multi-channel commerce. Customers who already run or want to run Microsoft Dynamics NAV and use the cutting-edge Microsoft Azure cloud platform can now do so to flexibly expand their IT environment with a highly scalable e-commerce platform.

The integrated solution from MAC IT-Solutions and Intershop specially developed for this application combines the Microsoft Dynamics NAV “DiVA” ERP and CRM solution, specifically optimized for medium-sized mail order retailers, with the powerful Intershop Commerce Suite. Both systems can be particularly efficiently operated in the Microsoft Azure Cloud, and can even cope with large peak loads flexibly and scalably. Functionalities for both retail and wholesale trade are seamlessly covered. This relieves retailers of the need to make their own arrangements in this respect as well as from their own IT operations and costly upfront investment. This means they can focus solely on the success and growth of their business.

Customer data security is a particularly important aspect for many German mail order companies. For companies that want to be sure that their customer data is stored and processed 100% in Germany, Microsoft Cloud Germany provides a cloud service in which data are processed by a trusteeship solution in partnership with Deutsche Telekom in Azure data centers in Frankfurt and Magdeburg. The joint MAC IT-Solutions and Intershop offering is also available in this Azure environment.

Dr. Jochen Wiechen, CEO at Intershop Communications AG, sees huge importance in the collaboration: “The MAC IT-Solutions and Intershop Microsoft Azure Cloud offering combines ERP, CRM, finance, purchasing and e-commerce as key elements in a purposeful digitization strategy. It is needs-focused and flexible, while being safe and efficient. Moreover, Office365 can be seamlessly integrated as a further cornerstone of Microsoft’s cloud strategy. We are sure it will be very well received in the market.”

Oliver Bartl, Head of MAC Cloud Solutions, describes the collaboration as follows: “Our Plus, Garden XXL and Lenscare customers have already been operating successfully in the market with MAC DiVA and Intershop for some years. The new integrated solution from the Azure Cloud is a valuable additional option allowing us to operate efficiently in an ever more rapidly changing market. We are sure we will be gaining a number of new joint customers with this combination.

Intershop customer Zamro nominated for the Best Starter award in the Netherlands

Jena, Germany, 2017-Feb-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — Zamro, an Intershop customer, has been nominated for the Best Starter award, which is part of the Shopping Awards. This is a prestigious award show in the Netherlands, which honors the best e-commerce players every year. On March 9, it will be decided whether the industrial supplies retailer is indeed the best starter in the Netherlands.

Zamro is nominated together with two other Dutch start-ups: Gogido, which let people compare cab drivers, and Terello, a start-up that repairs smartphones and tablets wherever the customer wants. A jury will decide which one of these will go home with a trophy of the Shopping Awards. In the Netherlands, this is the biggest and most important award show for the e-commerce industry.

The jury has said it will choose the winner based on certain criteria: is the concept distinctive enough, is there a clear business model with a long-term plan and is the setup of the online store state of the art,, professional and unique?

“In our point of view, Zamro fits these criteria perfectly. We are profoundly proud of this nomination for our customer”, says Intershop’s marketing manager Harold van der Horst. “What makes this nomination special is the fact that Zamro has only been active for one year. Intershop is often seen as a solution for companies who are having their second or third growth spurt, when performance becomes a challenge or when the complexity increases because of complicated system integrations, international growth, multiple brands, or a combination of business models. But Zamro shows perfectly that the Intershop commerce engine also caters for new initiatives with serious international ambitions.”

Zamro is a real disruptive player. In contrast to what’s common business in the industry, Zamro shows all of their catalogs, products and prices online, with total transparency. The company was founded in February 2016, but is growing strongly. In the online store, customers (mostly SMEs) can choose from 500,000 industrial components, which will soon grow to one million components.

Last year, Zamro chose Intershop after an extensive competition analysis. The successful cooperation reflects perfectly Intershop’s B2B focus and the fact our solution is very interesting for both new players and existing fast-growing companies with international ambitions, who thanks to the 100% success rate of Intershop can start soon after the short implementation time.

Gustav Ehlert GmbH migrates its commerce platform to Intershop to develop new sales channels and lower its total cost of ownership

  • New commerce platform lowers total cost of ownership
  • Enables multi-channel strategy for the wholesaler
  • Can establish new online shops in a fast and professional way

Jena, Germany, 2017-Jan-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Gustav Ehlert GmbH, the leading wholesaler of packaging, cleaning agents, hygiene clothing and spices for the food processing industry is migrating its commerce platform to Intershop in order to develop new sales channels and lower its total cost of ownership (TCO).

The family business, founded in 1924, stores more than 18,000 products in its own warehouse (more than 6,000 square meters) and delivers its goods via its own trucks and logistic partners. With around 80,000 annual transactions, more than 85,000 individual price lists and 750 suppliers, Ehlert needed a commerce partner that could optimize its logistics and distribution costs by selling related products online 24/7 and establish new online shops in a fast and professional way.

A traditional wholesale business, Ehlert has a huge number of transactions at high costs of which. The Company wanted to address that in order to continue the success of the brand which has already spanned four generations. With the expansion of its online business and a centralized customer interface that optimizes all customer transactions, Ehlert is planning to grow its annual revenue by 50 percent by 2020.

Axel Köhler, member of the board at Intershop: “Ehlert chose Intershop for its huge feature set and the ease with which new online shops can be rolled out. The TCO of its incumbent platform was too high for this new project, particularly in terms of agency and development time.”

The implementation team at nubizz GmbH will have Intershop Commerce Management 7.7 live by the summer 2017, after which Ehlert will work on a customer centric wholesale strategy with several shops. Ehlert will also integrate Perfion for product information management (PIM) and Targit as its business intelligence (BI) Solution.

Intershop supported BMW Group in the implementation of their new online shop

  • Customers can order more than 15,000 original parts
  • Extended search functions guarantee compatibility with various vehicle models

Jena, Germany, 2016-Dec-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — An e-commerce system on Intershop basis is now available to the BMW Group. Intershop also supported the BMW Group in the implementation of their new online shop. Customers of participating dealers can select in the new store from more than 15,000 original products ranging from accessories, spare parts, and lifestyle products of the brands BMW, MINI, BMW Motorrad, and Classic.

The platform based on the Intershop Commerce Suite digitizes the after-sales business of the BMW Group offering customers a 24/7 access. Additionally, it offers extended functionality such as the search for the matching product. After entering the vehicle identification number customers are shown exactly those parts and accessories that are compatible to their car or motorcycle. Upon selection of an item the online shop automatically suggests the associated components which are necessary for the placement into the vehicle. These detailed search functions leverage digitized vehicle data that date back until the early 1980´s.

Depending on the customer´s preference the selected products can then be shipped by one of the participating BMW dealers to the customers or can be picked up at their facility. The option of scheduling appointments for having the parts fitted in will be integrated soon.

Axel Köhler, COO at Intershop Communications AG comments: „On the basis of our Commerce Suite in this project Intershop has supported BMW Group in turning central promises of the digitalization into reality: better customer service and higher reach at increased efficiency. It´s the latest example of 15 years of successful cooperation of our companies.”

Intershop releases research report “Taking the fast track into the digital future of B2B commerce”

Jena, Germany, 2016-Nov-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Pursuit of the digitalization agenda is enabling B2B organizations to transform their business models, expand outside their traditional markets and enable operational innovation. These are some of the findings from a new research report, “Taking the fast track into the digital future of B2B commerce” from Intershop, published today.

In the answers of the 400 B2B organizations surveyed across Benelux, France, Germany, the Nordics, UK and US the impressive impact of the digital transformation becomes apparent:

  • Four in 10 claim that digitalization has completely changed their business models
  • Three quarters (76%) currently have their own B2B commerce site
  • Just 42% currently have bricks and mortar outlets
  • 46% say their sector is more global now than ever before
  • 43% are selling to customers that would not buy from them before
  • 44% are generating more total sales – and more sales per sales representative
  • 40% leverage their digital sales channels to persuade customers to purchase more items across more product categories.

The digitalization of B2B organisations is not only affecting their day-to-day operations. It is changing the whole business landscape. In fact, a third (37%) of survey respondents report an increase in “stealth” practices; where new and competing products and services come to market with little warning and not always from traditionally competitive suppliers.

These new offerings can often disrupt a sector and/or render incumbent offerings redundant. Indeed, only three in 10 (30%) B2B organisations feel confident enough in their product or services that they would be able to innovate in the face of stealth competition and keep up.

“Organizations need to set up the right technological infrastructure today in order to fully leverage the potential of digitalization and to prepare for a successful future”, explains Dr. Jochen Wiechen, CEO, Intershop Communications AG. “Order management systems have proved to have a particularly high relevancy in that respect. However, they are just one part of a truly synaptic commerce landscape, which ensures the necessary flexibility required by the market´s dynamics.”

The report also examines the digital mega trends, big data alongside the Internet of Things (IoT). An impressive 95% expect to benefit from IoT and smart automation. Already, organizations are noticing the impact in areas such as better marketing and targeting, cost savings, supply chain management efficiency and greater efficiencies across their business. Yet despite this, relatively few (37%) say they plan to invest in the IoT over the next 12 months. When it comes to the big data story, despite less than half (42%) claiming their organization uses big data effectively, 54% say it will be their organization´s next big investment.

Research Methodology

The research was conducted on behalf of Intershop by Vanson Bourne, an independent specialist in market research for the technology sector. 400 decision makers in the UK, France, Germany, the US, Benelux and Nordic regions were surveyed across the construction materials, tools, construction machinery, wholesale and other machinery equipment sectors.

Intershop announces financial results for the first nine months of 2016

  • Revenues of EUR 24.7 million (previous year: EUR 32.7 million)
  • Product business falls short of expectations, service revenues continue to stabilize
  • EBIT of EUR -2.0 million (previous year: EUR 0.05 million)
  • “Lighthouse 2020” strategy: Focus on wholesale and cloud business

Jena, 2016-Nov-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intershop Communications AG (ISIN: DE000A0EPUH1), a leading independent provider of innovative solutions for omni-channel commerce, generated revenues of EUR 24.7 million in the first nine months of 2016 (previous year: EUR 32.7 million). On the one hand, the 25% decline is attributable to a shift in projects and a shortfall of expected license orders, which sent product revenues falling by 27% to EUR 9.5 million. On the other hand, service revenues, at EUR 15.2 million, were still below the prior year level (-23%). This is due to the changed customer structure, with a focus on small and medium-sized customers. The quarterly comparison shows, however, that the service business has stabilized, with service revenues climbing from EUR 4.5 million in Q1 to EUR 5.4 million in Q3 2016.

Intershop’s product revenues break down into approx. EUR 3.5 million in license revenues (previous year: EUR 7.0 million) and EUR 6.0 million in maintenance revenues (previous year: EUR 6.0 million) in the first nine months of 2016. In the service segment, revenues from consulting contracts amounted to EUR 11.8 million, (previous year: EUR 15.1 million) while full service revenues stood at EUR 3.4 million (previous year: EUR 4.6 million).

The 44% gross margin for the nine months was consistent with the prior year period. Operating expenses declined by 9% to EUR 13.0 million. Due to the drop in revenues, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) declined to EUR -0.2 million (previous year: EUR 2.7 million). EBIT amounted to EUR -2.0 million in the reporting period, compared to EUR 0.05 million in the previous year. The result for the period stood at EUR -2.4 million (previous year: EUR -0.1 million). This is equivalent to earnings per share of EUR -0.07 (previous year: EUR 0.00).

The Intershop Group’s cash flow from operations amounted to EUR -1.4 million in the first nine months of 2016 (previous year: EUR 4.2 million), which is mainly attributable to the net loss for the period. Cash and cash equivalents totalled EUR 10.9 million at the interim reporting date. The equity ratio improved to 61% (31 December 2015: 58%).

Against the background of the ongoing market consolidation and the lack of growth momentum, Intershop has initiated the “Lighthouse 2020” strategy program. Following on from the concentration on the product business in the past two years, Intershop will focus on customers from the wholesale sector going forward. Another strategic focus of the program is on the continued expansion of the cloud business; in this context, the Intershop 7.8 Cloud Solution will be launched before the end of the year. The new cooperation with Microsoft will play an important role, as it allows customers to seamlessly integrate the Intershop systems with the cloud-based Dynamics NAV ERP solution from Microsoft.

According to the new roadmap, the Management Board projects sales revenues of between EUR 34 million and EUR 36 million as well as a negative result (EBIT) of between EUR 1 million and EUR 2.5 million, including extraordinary expenses of approx. EUR 1 million.

Says Dr. Jochen Wiechen, CEO of Intershop Communications AG: “In spite of the disappointing nine-month figures, we are convinced that our strategic positioning and the related reorganization are the right approach. We project revenues of EUR 50 million and an EBIT margin of 5% by 2020 and will do everything in our power to reach these growth targets.”

The interim report on the first nine months of 2016 is available for download at http://www.intershop.com/investors-financial-reports.

CWS-boco International launched new B2B online store based on Intershop technology

  • Intershop Commerce Suite as platform for new international B2B online store
  • Individually tailored key-account stores with ERP and CRM integration for ultra-efficient procurement
  • Project expertly implemented by Intershop Platinum Partner diva-e

Jena, Germany, 2016-Oct-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — CWS-boco International, a leading global provider of washroom hygiene and textile solutions, has launched a new B2B online store based on Intershop technology. At the heart of the new portal for business customers is the Intershop Commerce Suite, one of the top three digital commerce platforms across five key use case scenarios, according to a recent comparison study by IT research group Gartner. The new store solution was designed and implemented by diva-e, a high-end e-business service provider covering the entire digital value chain.

When the existing B2B system began hitting constraints, CWS-boco opted for the flexibility and exceptional scalability of the Intershop Commerce Suite. In addition to advanced B2B shops for its various subsidiaries, the company commissioned a number of individually tailored key-account stores. These cater exclusively to selected major customers, providing direct integration with back-end systems as well as custom branding and the relevant purchasing conditions. The result is a substantial improvement in the ease of procurement for large corporations with high order volumes. Long-time Intershop Business Partner diva-e used an agile process to develop tailored interfaces for SAP and Salesforce, provided customization of the key-account stores, and migrated all the relevant data from the old system to the new.

“Digital commerce is a key driver of our strategic business growth,” commented Alexander Krames, Team Lead E-Commerce at CWS-boco International. “A complete relaunch of our existing web store was absolutely essential in order to maintain our competitive edge. We’re extremely pleased with the new Intershop platform, both from a technological and a commercial perspective. Our B2B customers now benefit from a cutting-edge store and a more convenient shopping experience.”

Axel Köhler, COO of Intershop Communications AG, added: “The new solution for CWS-boco further underlines the strengths of the Intershop Commerce Suite when it comes to modeling complex B2B scenarios. With the new business portal and tailored key-account stores, CWS-boco is investing in the future of B2B commerce, giving it the tools to respond appropriately to changing customer needs.”

Intershop Commerce Suite ranked number three in Gartner’s ‘Critical Capabilities for Digital Commerce’ report

Jena, Germany, 2016-Jul-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Intershop has been recognized for its ability to meet leading-edge market requirements in the newly published ‘Critical Capabilities for Digital Commerce’ by Gartner for its Commerce Suite. The document evaluated 19 vendors’ digital commerce platforms using 14 critical product capabilities and five use cases to assist IT leaders and those responsible for digital commerce in their platform selection. Intershop Commerce Suite was ranked number three for all use cases.

Gartner’s assessment of a platform’s critical capabilities and scoring was based on weighted averages from three sources: product capabilities as described by the vendor, Gartner client feedback and vendor reference customers. The Critical Capabilities research focused exclusively on assessing differentiated product and feature functionality. Vendors were evaluated on their products’ ability to provide appropriate functionality in five different, unique use case scenarios:

  • Complex, Diverse and Large Operations
  • Multiple Channels
  • Selling Globally
  • Selling to Consumers
  • Selling to Other Organizations

“Intershop is rated in the top three in all of the use cases. We feel the research clearly shows that our Commerce Suite is a great choice for organizations which want to fully leverage the potential of digital commerce” commented Jochen Wiechen, CEO of Intershop. “We are constantly working to improve and expand our platform to help our customers meet the fast changing demands and challenges of selling in a connected world. We are pleased that Gartner’s report has recognized us for the broad functionality we offer, including the now completely integrated order management capabilities of the Intershop Commerce Suite.”

Gartner evaluated the platforms against the following critical product capabilities:

  • Organization/Brand Complexity
  • Product Diversity
  • Product Management Breadth
  • Commerce Search
  • Multichannel
  • Mobility
  • Localization
  • Consumer Buyer Personalization
  • Corporate Buyer Personalization
  • Master Data Management (MDM)
  • Web Content Management (WCM)
  • Configure Price Quote (CPQ)
  • Order Management/Distributed Order Management (OM/DOM)
