PHILIPPINES: SM and Michael Martinez to hold 3-day skating camp

Pasay City, Philippines, 2016-Jun-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — Michael Martinez is back. After turning his focus towards gruelling competitions and religious training abroad for an entire year, Michael has returned to his home country to fulfill his dream of imparting his knowledge and skills in the rink to young skaters. “It has always been my hope to begin a formal program in the Philippines in which I could help raise more Filipino figure skaters ready for the international arena,” says Martinez.

In collaboration with SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. (SMLEI), Martinez and SM Skating will be holding a 3-day camp on June 15-17 at Mall of Asia and June 30 – July 1 in SM Seaside City Cebu. “We at SM Skating would like nothing more than to support Michael in his dream to develop budding skaters into Olympic athletes,” notes SMLEI Sports and Development Head CJ Suarez, “We hope to have this camp in place annually during Michael’s off-ice seasons. We are also creating full-production, free ice shows starring Michael and the 2015 Philippine national champs. There will be a meet and greet after each show. We hope that this doesn’t only create an interest in the sport, but also create a bigger spark in skaters to give them a push towards training harder for the gold medal.” The ice show and meet and greet will take place in Megamall on June 18 and July 2 in SM Seaside City Cebu.

After the last leg of the camp and ice shows in July, Michael will head back to the United States to prepare for the next competition season in August.

This agreement is intended to contribute to higher revenues and profits from convenience store operations in the region. Foodstuffs North Island Limited to close its Write Price store in Wairoa after 29 years

Auckland, New Zealand, 2016-Jun-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — Foodstuffs North Island Limited has today announced its Write Price store in Wairoa will close after 29 years.

“It is always a difficult decision to close a store, but following the announcement by Trevor Wong, the owner-operator of Write Price Wairoa, that he is planning to retire, Foodstuffs has taken the decision that the store will not be sold to another owner,” says Doug Cochrane, General Manager Retail, Foodstuffs North Island Ltd. “Trevor’s announcement in conjunction with an extensive review of our offer in Wairoa has lead us to believe this is the right decision and one which will ensure we can continue to provide the Wairoa community with the best possible supermarket offer for the long-term.”

“We currently have one Write Price and one New World supermarket in Wairoa however, it has become increasingly difficult to sustain two supermarkets in the district. We feel our New World store is best placed to meet the community’s everyday shopping requirements,” adds Cochrane. “New World has the best range, great prices and customer rewards through Fly Buys so we really believe it is the best fit for our Wairoa customers.”

“After almost 35 years in the supermarket industry, Trevor is looking forward to retiring from the supermarket business to spend more time with his family and four grandchildren. Chick-fil-A’s new app: More than one million customers have already joined Chick-fil-A One

ATLANTA, Ga., 2016-Jun-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — More than one million customers have joined Chick-fil-A One, the restaurant company’s new app that allows guests to customize their order, pay in advance and skip the line at the register. The surge quickly boosted Chick-fil-A One to the number one spot in the iTunes App Store only a few hours after the app was announced on June 1. It remains in the top position for free apps for the third day in a row, with six registrations taking place every second. Chick-fil-A One has also been installed on more than 450,000 Android devices since the launch.

“The app was developed based on customer feedback, so it’s especially rewarding to see the interest around Chick-fil-A One,” said Michael Lage, senior manager of digital experience for Chick-fil-A.

To thank guests, any customer who downloads (or updates) the free app and creates a Chick-fil-A One account between now and June 11 will receive an offer for a free Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich or Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Once the offer is claimed, guests will have until June 30 to redeem their free sandwich. As of June 2, 131,000 free sandwiches had been redeemed.

Chick-fil-A One, which replaces the restaurant chain’s previous app, features a unique membership program that will surprise customers with their favorite food for free, based on their preferences and previous orders.  As users order or purchase through Chick-fil-A One, they get closer to their next free offering and can track their progress in the app.

Chick-fil-A One is available via the Apple App Store or Google Play, or simply by tweeting through an activation that was custom-built by Twitter for Chick-fil-A. According to a recent survey commissioned by Chick-fil-A, 82 percent of millennial parents say they would do almost anything to avoid long lines at fast food restaurants when they are with their children. In fact, nearly half (48 percent) said they would rather not eat at all than stand in a line.

In an abundance of caution, Harris Teeter is voluntarily recalling Harris Teeter Peanut, Almond, & Dark Chocolate Chewy Protein Bars due to the potential for this product to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  Harris Teeter was notified by TreeHouse Foods, the manufacturer, that the product may contain sunflower kernels which have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
