PRODUCT RECALL: Harris Teeter Peanut, Almond, & Dark Chocolate Chewy Protein Bars due to potential contamination of Listeria

Matthews, N.C., 2016-Jun-06 — /EPR Retail News/ —  Product quality and integrity are paramount to Harris Teeter.

In an abundance of caution, Harris Teeter is voluntarily recalling Harris Teeter Peanut, Almond, & Dark Chocolate Chewy Protein Bars due to the potential for this product to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  Harris Teeter was notified by TreeHouse Foods, the manufacturer, that the product may contain sunflower kernels which have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Harris Teeter discontinued this item in April 2016.  However, this product may have been sold in Harris Teeter stores between July 14, 2015 and April 12, 2016. Harris Teeter asks customers who purchased this product between July 14, 2015 and April 12, 2016 to please not consume the product. Instead, return it to your Harris Teeter for a full refund.
