Over the next three years the LVMH Group will provide funding for the Voltaire Foundation as it researches and publishes the final volumes in the collection. When the project is completed in 2019 it will amount to more than 200 volumes and include expert commentary alongside the texts.

Chipotle Mexican Grill expands its Chipotle Reading Rewards program

Chipotle motivates young readers with reading rewards, incentivizing book smarts with delicious food

DENVER, 2017-Feb-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) announced today  (Feb. 8, 2017) the expansion of the Chipotle Reading Rewards program, which rewards young readers with free Chipotle kid’s meals for reaching their reading goals.

“We understand the importance of early literacy, and want to encourage kids of all ages to read,” said Mark Crumpacker, chief marketing and development officer at Chipotle. “Giving back is always a priority for us, and we are pleased to supply teachers and librarians with the motivational resources they need for successful reading programs.”

Chipotle has provided reading rewards for libraries across the country for summer reading programs for close to a decade. As part of the expanded program, Chipotle is making rewards available for application on its website and also opening up this resource to schools. While most schools and libraries have their own reading programs, Chipotle can provide a reading log for approved applicants who do not have an existing program in place.

Participants who reach their reading goals will be rewarded with a free kid’s meal card. The Chipotle kid’s meal consists of the “build your own” option or a cheese quesadilla, both of which are served with a drink and kid’s chips or fruit. Teen reading programs can also be supported if educators specify an older audience in their application. If approved, buy-one-get-one (BOGO) vouchers will be provided for teen readers.

To apply for the Chipotle Reading Rewards program, teachers and librarians can visit chipotle.com/reading. Each school or library may only apply for Chipotle reading rewards once per year. Applicants should be prepared to use a valid school or library email address and request the cards to ship directly to the school or library district.

ABOUT CHIPOTLE

Steve Ells, Founder, Chairman and CEO, started Chipotle with the idea that food served fast did not have to be a typical fast food experience. Today, Chipotle continues to offer a focused menu of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls, and salads made from fresh, high-quality raw ingredients, prepared using classic cooking methods and served in an interactive style allowing people to get exactly what they want. Chipotle seeks out extraordinary ingredients that are not only fresh, but that are raised responsibly, with respect for the animals, land, and people who produce them. Chipotle prepares its food using whole, unprocessed ingredients and without the use of added colors, flavors or other additives typically found in fast food. Chipotle opened with a single restaurant in Denver in 1993 and now operates more than 2,200 restaurants. For more information, visit Chipotle.com.

Athleta launches Power of She campaign; features 98-year-old yogi Tao Porchon-Lynch on itS first 2017 catalog cover

PETALUMA, Calif., 2017-Jan-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — Athleta is starting 2017 with the launch of a Power of She campaign showcasing the power of women coming together to create social impact through a foundation of health and wellness.

The new campaign builds on the Power of She platform the brand launched in April 2016.  The Power of She brings to life the brand’s mission to ignite a community of active, confident women and girls to reach their limitless potential and celebrates the power of sisterhood with the mantra “Alone We Are Strong, United We Thrive.”

“Athleta stands for inclusivity,” said Athleta President Nancy Green.  “We want to break down stereotypes and help redefine perceptions of wellness and strength while celebrating the power of the female collective to make an impact.”

The centerpiece of the campaign is a collection of stories each highlighting one ‘power’ of Power of She – including positivity, potential, community and confidence:

Positivity: Tao + Terri

At 98 years old, Tao Porchon-Lynch is the world’s oldest yoga instructor whose philosophy is “there is nothing we cannot do if we harness the power within us.”  She and Dr. Terri Kennedy collaborated on a book about Tao’s life Dancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being and travel the world together to inspire and impact the lives of women across the globe.

Potential: Audrey + Estelle + Melanie + Kimi

When Audrey ‘s daughter Estelle was born with Down syndrome, she helped create Club 21 Learning and Resource Center as a community for parents of children with Down syndrome dedicated to including people with Down syndrome in society.  She partnered with local studio Rose City Yoga, where instructors Melanie and Kimi lead classes teaching their students confidence and the power of their potential.

Community: Clancy + Kristen + Roma

This trio of athletes turned their passion for running into a way to support and bring awareness to maternal health for women around the world through Every Mother Counts (EMC).  Clancy, Kristen and Roma participate in races to raise awareness and funds to provide skilled healthcare to new and soon-to-be moms around the world.

Confidence: Kate + Ella + Alice

Kate T. Parker is a professional photographer who takes photos of girls the way they are naturally – in her words, “silly, adventurous, frustrated, happy, athletic, fierce, funny.” She has collected her photos in a new book Strong is the New Pretty (Workman Publishing; available in March) celebrating the strength and spirit of girls being 100% themselves.

“These women embody the Power of She and represent the impact each of us can have in our community and in the world,” added Green.

Each of the stories will be prominently featured in Athleta’s catalog, in its stores and across digital channels.  The brand’s Chi Blog hosts the campaign content and where Athleta has also added resources for women who are inspired by the campaign to get involved with the organizations featured.  The brand will be hosting in-store events throughout the campaign to give women and girls the chance to showcase their Power of She.

Additionally, Athleta announced that it is a member of #SeeHer, a movement to accurately portray all women and girls in media spearheaded by the Association of National Advertiser (ANA)’s Alliance for Family Entertainment.

“We are delighted to have Athleta and their new campaign ‘The Power of She’ join our #SeeHer movement.  Athleta’s portrayal of women as strong, smart, beautiful, fun and fearless is a valuable addition to our mission of championing an accurate representation of women in media.  We applaud Athleta for amplifying this important message,” said Stephen Quinn, Chairman, ANA Alliance for Family Entertainment.

In support of its goal to increase the accurate portrayal of women in media 20 percent by 2020, the group created a proprietary Gender Equality Measure, GEM™ in which ad content is compared to thousands of other ads.  In the analysis, executed by #SeeHer research partner ABX, Athleta’s 2017 Power of She launch video scored in the top 1% of approximately 10,000 ads measured for its portrayal of women and girls.

CHESHUNT, England, 2016-Dec-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — Nutrition and fitness guru Joe Wicks’ fantastic year has got even better – he’s just taken Jamie Oliver’s crown as the UK’s favourite recipe book author.

Joe, who rose to fame with his personalised The Body Coach online plans and Instagram videos, has also beaten off a strong challenge from the Great British Bake Off team to become best seller in the Tesco celebrity chef book chart.

His speedy rise as a top-selling author started with the launch of his first book- Lean In 15 and it’s follow up, Lean In 15 – The Shape Plan earlier in the year, which have become two of Tesco’s fastest ever selling recipe books.

Tesco book buyer Karen Brindle said:

“But what we’re seeing this year, with the popularity of the Lean in 15 books, is that no matter how much Brits love cakes and treats, they also want the tools to create delicious and wholesome meals.

“By using simple recipes and readily available fresh ingredients, the Body Coach is helping the nation to make tasty and healthy choices.”

The book will be available in Tesco stores across the country and online for £8.

After hearing of his latest success Joe Wicks, The Body Coach, said:

“Wow! Thank you Tesco shoppers for getting behind me from the very start and making me your number one cook book this Christmas. I can’t wait to get even more people lean in 2017.”

In the last four years the top selling celebrity chef authors at Tesco have been divided equally by Jamie Oliver and the Great British Bake Off team.

Also included in the best seller list is Let’s Cook With The Nation’s Favourite Chefs – a book exclusively on sale at Tesco featuring recipes from among others, Jamie Oliver, Joe Wicks, Nadiya Hussain, The Hairy Bikers, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Gino D’Acampo and Rick Stein with £2 from each sale going to Cancer Research UK

Dior pays homage to its seven creative directors with a book dedicated to each of them

Paris, 2016-Dec-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — Seven volumes, one for each of the designers of the iconic couture house at 30 avenue Montaigne. To celebrate its 70th anniversary, Dior is paying homage to its seven creative directors with a book dedicated to each of them, compiled in an anthology featuring striking photographs by Laziz Hamani.

Founded in 1947, Dior is celebrating its 70th anniversary with the publication of seven books dedicated to the seven designers who have shaped the history of the couture house: Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Each tome explores the world and creations of the designers who have marked the storied Maison.

Published in collaboration with Editions Assouline, the series begins with Dior by Christian Dior, evoking the most iconic haute couture designs by the founder of the Maison. The seminal 504-page book is richly illustrated with photographs by Laziz Hamani, resonating elegantly with the text written by fashion historian Olivier Saillard, who proposes an in-depth analysis of Christian Dior’s inspirations, influences and visions, along with warmly recounted details and anecdotes behind each of the 84 pieces selected. They include the now mythic creations designed by the couturier for his first collection, notably the iconic Bar suit.

Dior by Christian Dior will be published in December 2016, followed by the volumes dedicated to the six other emblematic Dior designers in 2017 and 2018.

SPAR Partners keeps connection with customers through its magazines

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2016-Nov-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR customers enjoy news and recipes featured in online magazines and our SPAR Partners are meeting this need and developing and communicating with customers in a variety of ways. The publication of online magazines is gaining popularity, ensuring that customers can search recipes and keep themselves updated on new products whilst on the go. While there are many more consumer communication materials than the magazines mentioned below, these give a good overview of topics that shoppers worldwide find interesting and enjoyable.

Six times a year, SPAR South Africa produces the popular Savour magazine, which combines recipes, nutrition advice, exercise tips and news on recent trends and popular places to visit. Launched in 2012, access to past editions ensures shoppers have a wealth of information readily available.

SPAR Austria’s Mahlzeit! (Bon Appetit!) magazine has gained a strong following, with customers not only delighted with the recipe and meal ideas but also the useful tips featured throughout. The website supporting the magazine features many more ideas, hints and videos to do with healthy living.

With the catchy name, Peper & Zout (Pepper & Salt), SPAR Partner Lambrechts in Belgium distributes a magazine to shoppers each month through direct mailing. The magazine can also be viewed via their website which features many great recipes and meal ideas. Still in Belgium, SPAR Retail also provides shoppers with a magazine distributed instore and available online, titled Kook. Packed with recipes and health tips about seasonal foods, this is also a well-read magazine.

One year ago, SPAR Croatia introduced an online magazine ‘cook with us’, which features many great tips on nutrition and hints for healthy living. Shopper reaction to Dobartek has been fantastic and the website with the same name has grown to include many search functions, helping time pressed families find inspiration.

One of the SPAR Partners in Spain, based in Gran Canaria, also has an online magazine, titled Sabor (flavour), which looks at the origin of foods sold, community activities taking place on the island, store activities and more.

And finally, SPAR Italy’s magazine, diVita, incorporates overall health and wellness ideas, features recipes, health advice and food origins. There are regional specialities and seasonal adaptations as well.

These are just a few examples that show how digital marketing solutions are on the rise, with SPAR Partners creating some innovative ways of connecting with customers.

Accenture estimates that the consumer goods industry will grow by as much as US$700 billion globally by 2020, with much of this growth coming from beyond familiar brands. To capture a share of this growth, CPG companies need to exceed the expectations of today’s consumers, providing them with a new set of experiences for each brand, enabled by new agile and competitive ways of running their businesses.

“Digital disruption has created new, fluid consumers who have different expectations and demands for faster and easier choices,” said Teo Correia, a senior managing director at Accenture. “They are more difficult to predict, finely segmented, more technology savvy, and are increasingly favoring engaging brands with excellent shopping experiences. To win their loyalty, it is imperative for consumer goods companies to reinvent how they interact with consumers, using digital technologies.”

The Fluid Consumer explores how digital technologies are driving profound shifts in consumer behavior. New levels of consumer empowerment are being enabled by smarter technologies, which have changed how consumers choose and make purchases. The book identifies the key characteristics of today’s consumers, who use mobile digital technologies to flow easily between different types of transactions and channels at any time and in any place. Today’s consumers are more informed and will review, compare, consult and contrast purchase activity at any time in nearly any location, making digital and social influence important and trustworthy sources.

“This book dissects and explains one of the most pressing issues of the digital age – engaging the distracted consumer. The Fluid Consumer can help leaders in the consumer goods industry understand how to build competitive advantage in a world of easy access, where consumer attention is the new scarce resource,” said Sangeet Paul Choudary, author and co-chair of the MIT Platform Strategy Summit.

The Fluid Consumer provides a new model for digital branding and a new framework to help CPG companies position themselves for growth. The book outlines how CPG companies need to assess their brand through the eyes of the fluid consumer. Brands are given guidance find the right place and profile for their brands, where to prioritize spending, and how to boost their agility to compete.

“Digital technologies allow CPG companies to put the consumer first, so leading the engagement with the Fluid Consumer in any given category is a real source of competitive advantage and can allow brands to regain the consumers’ trust, not only relative to other brand owners but also ensuring increased channel power,” said John Zealley, senior managing director, Consumer Goods & Services, Accenture. “However, to secure this position, CPG companies also need to re-invent the way they operate their business, giving them the agility and economic headroom to capture the new value creation opportunities on offer.”

Colson Whitehead’s novel The Underground Railroad tops Amazon’s list of Best Books of 2016

Amazon book editors reveal the 100 best books of the year, selecting titles in over two dozen categories from Literary Fiction and Mystery to Children’s & Young Adult

SEATTLE, 2016-Nov-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Amazon.com today (Nov. 15, 2016) announced its selections for the Best Books of 2016, naming Colson Whitehead’s novel The Underground Railroad the Best Book of the Year. The annual list features the Top 100 books of the year plus Top 20 lists across various categories. All lists are hand-selected by Amazon’s team of editors who read hundreds of thousands of pages throughout the year—choosing the best books of every month and then, finally, the best books of the year. To see the full list of the Best Books of 2016 and buy the print or Kindle editions, visit: http://amazon.com/bestbooks2016

“The editorial team had a handful of books that we seriously considered for the top pick but in the end our choice of The Underground Railroad was unanimous,” said Chris Schluep, Amazon Senior Book Editor. “Colson Whitehead’s novel is timely, important, and a great work of literature.”

Here are the Amazon Editorial Team’s Top 10 picks this year:

  1. The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead: A brilliant, wise, fantastical yet grounded portrayal of a young slave seeking her freedom on a real underground railroad.
  2. The Wolf Road by Beth Lewis: Part literary thriller, part western, this is a debut novel about a young tomboy trying to survive a post-apocalyptic wilderness as she searches for her parents.
  3. Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance: A very personal tour of a segment of our culture that’s losing its way in modern America.
  4. The Nix by Nathan Hill: A big, smart novel about so many things: family, politics, revolution and the things we choose to remember (and forget).
  5. Mischling by Affinity Konar: Affinity Konar’s beautiful novel about twin sisters who survive Auschwitz is precisely crafted, acutely sensitive and ultimately uplifting and hopeful.
  6. Lab Girl by Hope Jahren: An inspiring and entertaining memoir about work, life and love from a plant scientist who is just as adept at analyzing the natural world as she is at illuminating human relationships.
  7. Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson: A poetic, breathtaking novel about growing up female and black in the 1970s—a time of conflicting pressures and sometimes crushing assumptions.
  8. Pumpkinflowers by Matti Friedman: An unforgettable nonfiction account of men changed by war, told in a voice that is both straight forward and undeniably literary.
  9. Before the Fall by Noah Hawley: From the award-winning creator of Fargo, a thrilling page-turner about an airplane crash and its seemingly heroic survivors.
  10. Swing Time by Zadie Smith: A masterful novel that tackles big issues—race, class and the ups and downs of long term friendship—told with a dancer’s grace and ease.

Here are some interesting facts about this year’s Best Books of the Year list:

  • Number of debut authors in the Top 20: 3
  • Number of science-related books in the Top 100: 6
  • Number of memoirs in the Top 100: 26
  • Number of entertainers who have authored books in the Top 100: 2
  • Number of books that were considered for the #1 spot on the list before the editors selected Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad: 4

The top picks in Children’s categories include The Night Gardener (Picture Books), The Secret Keepers (Middle Grade – ages 9-12) and The Sun is Also a Star (Young Adult). Topping the list in other popular categories is Anthony Bourdain’s Appetites (Cookbook) and David Yarrow’s Wild Encounters (Arts & Photography).

  • Ningún Escocés Verdadero, by Ana Ballabriga and David Zaplana, from Cartagena, Spain, will be published globally in Spanish by Amazon Publishing, and translated into English and published globally by AmazonCrossing in digital, print and audio formats

SEATTLE, 2016-Nov-11 — /EPR Retail News/ — Amazon today (Nov. 10, 2016) announced that Ana Ballabriga and David Zaplana, with their title Ningún Escocés Verdadero—a thriller that involves religion, mystery, art and deception—have won the Third Indie Literary Prize for Spanish-language authors worldwide. From July 1 to August 31, more than 1,400 authors from 39 countries entered the contest by uploading their titles to Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) (https://kdp.amazon.com). The top countries participating were Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, the U.S. and Argentina, and the books were sold to customers in 71 different countries. To be eligible for the contest, the stories had to be original, unpublished works written in Spanish, and exclusive to Kindle through enrollment in KDP Select. After selecting five finalists, submissions were carefully reviewed by a panel of judges to determine the winning title.

Ningún Escocés Verdadero tells the story of Elías, a private investigator specializing in art-related crimes, who is hired by the Spanish Bishop of Murcia to search for the Cross of Caravaca, stolen in the year 1934. His mission is to restore it in time for an upcoming visit from the Pope. At the same time, Elías is tasked with acquiring a mysterious painting, which also goes missing soon after he purchases it in an auction in Madrid. From there, he meets an enigmatic and beautiful woman who will lead him down a dangerous path to the truth.

“Hope, excitement, restlessness, joy, anxiety and happiness. We have gone through all these emotions throughout the contest, since we submitted the novel until we learned we were the winners,” said authors Ana Ballabriga and David Zaplana. “We know where we came from and how hard it was to get here, so now the future seems like a wonderful place.”

“For the third year in a row, we were amazed by the talent participating in the Indie Literary Prize for Spanish-language. It is great to be able to bring amazing characters such as the ones in the thriller Ningún Escocés Verdadero to a broader audience for Spanish readers and, in the future, to English readers as well,” said Charles Kronbach, Director, Kindle Direct Publishing. “This initiative is a great way to make new books available to our growing Spanish-speaking customers worldwide. The incredible engagement we see every year, both in terms of authors and readers, confirms that there are many more books out there that haven’t had a chance to be read and there are millions of readers eager to discover new stories.”

Contest ambassador and best-selling author Ismael Cala, said, “Winning a contest is not a matter of luck, but talent and perseverance. I congratulate the winning authors, the finalists, and all of the participants. Whatever the outcome, all of them have written a book and have made it available to others under the auspices of Amazon. The accomplishment is collective and our history is being added to day by day.”

Ningún Escocés Verdadero will be published globally in Spanish by Amazon Publishing, and translated into English and published globally by AmazonCrossing in digital, print and audio formats. Ana Ballabriga and David Zaplana are now part of the group of winners of Amazon’s Indie Literary Prize for Spanish-Language, which also includes Myriam Millán, winner of the prize in 2015 with her book La hija del Dragón; and Jorge Magano, 2014 winner with his title La mirada de piedra. Sainsbury’s and linguist Susie Dent launch The Taste Dictionary to inspire the nation when describing food

Sainsbury’s and linguist Susie Dent launch The Taste Dictionary to inspire the nation when describing food
Sainsbury’s and linguist Susie Dent launch The Taste Dictionary to inspire the nation when describing food

London, 2016-Nov-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — New research today ( 31 October 2016) reveals that we now think, plan and talk about food for more than 16 hours a week on average (that’s almost six years of our adult lives) – putting it on par with the nation’s favourite topic of conversation, the weather. Despite this, when it comes to complimenting the chef, ‘delicious’, ‘tasty’ and ‘nice’ are still top of our vocabulary, with most Britons only using six different words to describe meals each week.

  • Britons spend nearly six years of their lives thinking and talking about food
  • But we use only six different words to describe taste during an average week
  • Wordsmith Susie Dent and Sainsbury’s launch The Taste Dictionary to countdown the tastiest ways to talk about food; including Fire-fanged, Mordacious and Pertish

To expand this limited list, Sainsbury’s has recruited linguist Susie Dent to add a little flavour to the nation’s foodie vocabulary, unveiling ‘The Taste Dictionary: 101 ways to describe each mouthful’. The dictionary includes a plethora of words to inspire the nation when describing some of their best-loved foods – a flavour includes ‘neptunian’ (meaning: carrying the strong flavour of the sea), ‘fire-fanged’ (meaning: Having a scorched appearance or taste)and ‘lickerous’ (meaning: sweet and tempting).

Conversation about food has never been so popular, with almost a third of people (30%) admitting to sharing food pictures on social media. On average, we send at least one food-related text or message to friends and family every single day.

However, when it comes to describing our dishes, adjectives are taking a back seat compared to visual cues  – the research shows over a quarter of Britons (26%) rely on emojis to do the talking, with the ‘smiley face’ and the ‘tears of joy face’ the most used and despite more than 214 million hashtags used on Instagram for food images alone, the breadth is still limited: ‘#foodporn’ (101.9 million); ‘#instafood’ (68.3 million) and ‘#foodstagram’ (17.8 million)4 are amongst the top foodie hashtags as Brits bypass traditional vocabulary to try to generate as many shares and likes as possible.

Susie Dent, English lexicographer, etymologist, and face of Countdown’s ‘Dictionary Corner’, comments: “I have so many favourite words in this list, and each of them offers a rich or sumptuous alternative to our usual taste repertoire. I particularly like mordacious, a word to describe something sharp and with a real bite –  it brings to life foods such as mustard and gooseberries beautifully.  As a nation we love our dialects too, and there is a lot of regional variance in the names for different foods (barmcake, bap or bun anyone?). However as we become more experimental with what is on our plates, our language also needs to evolve to reflect this new culinary landscape. The Sainsbury’s Taste Dictionary is a great way to spice up your meal time and to get the conversation flowing over the dinner table.”

Susi Richards, Head of Product Development for Food at Sainsbury’s said: “We are always looking for ways to inspire our customers when it comes to trying and enjoying different foods. It’s been great to get Susie on board to impart her knowledge and expertise in the area of language, alongside our strong heritage in quality food. With The Taste Dictionary including new and unexpected words, it will be an additional source of inspiration to the Sainsbury’s food team in how we think and talk about food.”

The  Sainsbury’s Taste Dictionary has been created as a limited run of books and is available to download as a PDF. Join the conversation and share your favourite words on Instagram or Twitter using @SainsburysNews and #TasteDictionary. There will also be a limited number to win through the Sainsbury’s Twitter and Instagram channels.
