Harris Teeter’s March 2017 donation card campaign raised more than $376,000 for JDRF

Harris Teeter’s March 2017 donation card campaign raised more than $376,000 for JDRF

Company Thanks Generous Shoppers who Contributed to JDRF Campaign

Matthews, NC, 2017-May-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Today (May 3, 2017), Harris Teeter announced its generous shoppers and valued associates raised more than $376,000 for JDRF, the leading organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) advocacy and research, during its March 2017 donation card campaign.

Throughout the campaign, Harris Teeter shoppers and associates were invited to make $1, $3 or $5 donations to JDRF at checkout. This year’s donation will go a long way in helping JDRF continue its mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.

“Harris Teeter is overwhelmed by the generosity our shoppers and valued associates who have shown their support to JDRF,” said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. “We are thankful for each of our associates and customers who joined JDRF in the fight against type 1 diabetes.”

For more information on type 1 diabetes or JDRF, please visit jdrf.org.

About T1D

In T1D, a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. People with T1D need to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin (with injections or an insulin pump) multiple times every day, and carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night. However, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, and even with that intensive care, a significant portion of the day is still spent with either high or low blood sugar, placing people with T1D at risk for devastating complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, and amputation.

About JDRF
JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. To accomplish this, JDRF has invested more than $2 billion in research funding since our inception. We are an organization built on a grassroots model of people connecting in their local communities, collaborating regionally for efficiency and broader fundraising impact, and uniting on a national stage to pool resources, passion, and energy. We collaborate with academic institutions, policymakers, and corporate and industry partners to develop and deliver a pipeline of innovative therapies to people living with T1D. Our staff and volunteers throughout the United States and our six international affiliates are dedicated to advocacy, community engagement and our vision of a world without T1D. Harris Teeter continues its annual Harvest Feast Food Drive and Donation Card Campaign for local hunger-relief efforts

Matthews, N.C., 2016-Nov-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Beginning November 1, 2016, Harris Teeter will continue its annual Harvest Feast Food Drive and Donation Card Campaign to aid local hunger-relief efforts. Throughout the entire month of November, Harris Teeter will collect non-perishable food items in the lobby of each location and sell $1, $5 and $20 donation cards at check-out to benefit its hunger-relief partners.

In November 2015, the Harvest Feast campaign collected $481,000, producing more than 10.5 million* meals for those facing hunger. The Company hopes to raise even more money during this year’s campaign as, according to Feeding America, one in every eight Americans struggle with hunger. Since 2005, this campaign has raised more than $3.9 million.

“We are continuously overwhelmed by the generosity of our valued associates and shoppers who help us provide millions of meals to our community members-in-need each year,” said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. “Fighting hunger is Harris Teeter’s number one giving priority, so we are proud to offer our associates and shoppers an easy way to fight local hunger by purchasing a donation card at our registers or taking advantage of our everyday low prices to purchase food for donation.”

This year, Harris Teeter is partnering with 19 agencies throughout its marketing areas. These agencies work year-round to fight hunger.  Both Harris Teeter’s food bank and food pantry partners are assigned stores within their service areas.

“It is important to remind our shoppers that every dollar or food item they donate at their Harris Teeter will go directly to serving hungry families within their community,” said Robinson.

The success of Harris Teeter’s Harvest Feast campaign hinges on the generosity of its loyal shoppers and valued associates. No donation is too big or small, and Harris Teeter hopes for continued participation again in 2015.

As part of this year’s Harvest Feast programming, Harris Teeter will also be hosting four separate bag packing events to provide 8,000 families-in-need with a complete Thanksgiving meal.

Harris Teeter kicks-off Hunger Action Month with Titan Farms’ fourth annual Peaches with a Purpose program

Mathews. NC,, 2016-Sep-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — To kick-off Hunger Action Month, Harris Teeter and Titan Farms donated approximately 36,000 pounds of peaches to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. This donation was made possible thanks to Titan Farms’ fourth annual Peaches with a Purpose program.

Titan Farms, the largest peach grower on the east coast, created Peaches with a Purpose to help feed the under-served while bringing attention to the problem of food insecurity. At the end of the program which took place in August throughout all North Carolina Harris Teeter locations, the company along with Titan Farms donated a percentage of all peaches purchased to the two food banks.

“On behalf of the hundreds of thousands of children, seniors and families who struggle daily with hunger in our region, we want to thank Harris Teeter and Titan Farms for their commitment to help end hunger,” said Kay Carter, chief executive officer of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “Produce is an item that those living in poverty can least afford but need as part of a healthy diet.  We are very grateful for this support.”

“We know that many people seeking food assistance from our network are struggling with health issues,” said Clyde Fitzgerald, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. “This fact makes donations like this one from Titan Farms and Harris Teeter all the more important. Together, we’re doing more than providing calories. We’re supporting healthy communities. We’re grateful to both companies for their on-going support and this exciting launch to Hunger Action Month.”

“We want to thank Titan Farms for supporting local hunger relief efforts and for allowing us to consistently be a part of this program,” said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. “Fresh produce is scarce in food banks across the country, and we are happy to be able to contribute nutritious items to those in need.”

“As leaders in the produce industry, we at Titan Farms feel a responsibility to get fresh produce into the hands of those in need,” said Chalmers Carr, president of Titan Farms. “We are proud to collaborate with Harris Teeter for a fourth year in providing North Carolina families with our fresh peaches.”

The food banks began distributing these peaches to schools and other populations immediately following the donations.

Harris Teeter and Titan Farms would like to offer a special thanks to Salem Produce, LLC for helping transport the donated product.

Harris Teeter launches home delivery through UberRUSH

Matthews, N.C., 2016-Apr-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Harris Teeter’s highly successful online ordering platform just got an upgrade. The Company’s expresslane online shopping tool allows shoppers to order groceries directly from their computer or mobile device and pick-up at the store; however, this service is now expanding to include home delivery through UberRUSH.

This delivery option designed to make the customer’s experience quick and easy, is currently in pilot phase at the Constitution Square Harris Teeter – 1201 First Street NE, Washington, D.C. 20002 – and only available to shoppers within a five-mile radius of the location.

Shoppers can logon to Harris Teeter’s mobile app, order their groceries and upon check-out, select either “delivery” or “pick-up.” If the shopper selects the delivery option, an UberRUSH driver is dispatched, collects the order and delivers it directly to the customer’s front door. Just as Uber riders experience, the customer will receive real-time updates of their grocery delivery process.
