Louis Vuitton unveils the second collection designed with New York artist Jeff Koons

Paris, 2017-Oct-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — Louis Vuitton has unveiled the second collection of bags and accessories designed with New York artist Jeff Koons. Featuring masterpieces by Monet, Turner, Gauguin and others, this second Masters series will be available at Louis Vuitton stores and from the Maison’s online store starting October 27th.

Recognized as one of the world’s most influential living artists, Jeff Koons has situated this second series in the Masters collection within the heritage of Louis Vuitton, using the power of art to connect the present with a shared cultural history.

The Speedy, Neverfull and Keepall bags become canvases on which works by Masters are transposed, including Nymphaeus by Claude Monet, Ancient Rome: Agrippina with the Ashes of Germanicus by Joseph William Turner, Reclining Girl by François Boucher, Te Nave Nave Fenua  (Delightful Land) by Paul Gauguin and Luncheon on the Grass by Edouard Manet. In addition, The Triumph of Pan by Nicolas Poussin will be available exclusively at the new Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme flagship.

As for the first chapter, Jeff Koons has revisited the celebrated Louis Vuitton Monogram and added colorful finishes to each creation. The bags also have a tag in the shape of the artist’s emblematic Rabbit.

With this collection, Jeff Koons proposes a new way to experience art by taking it beyond museums, affirming Louis Vuitton’s longstanding philanthropic and curatorial engagement with art.

Louis Vuitton opened the doors to its new Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme in Paris

Louis Vuitton opened the doors to its new Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme in Paris

Paris, 2017-Oct-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Louis Vuitton opened the doors to its new Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme at 2 Place Vendôme in Paris on October 4th. The full array of Louis Vuitton savoir-faire – travel accessories and luggage, ready-to-wear, jewelry, watches, leather goods, shoes, fragrances, accessories, plus artisanal workshops – has now been brought together in a single place. The opening marks the Maison’s grand return to the location where the young Louis Vuitton opened his first store over 160 years ago.

Louis Vuitton has returned to  Place Vendôme, where the trunkmaker’s story began. It was in the streets neighboring the celebrated Parisian square that Louis Vuitton honed his craft and opened his first store in 1854. On October 4th the Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme continued the story with a sumptuous space that welcomes the full array of Louis Vuitton savoir-faire and métiers in two hôtels particuliers that have been elegantly united.

The former Hôtel Baudet de Morlet and Hôtel Heuzé de Vologer, two private mansions built in 1714, have been meticulously restored and returned to their former glory by architect Peter Marino. Behind the original façade, the Maison has been designed to create an airy ambiance filled with natural light. Extensive use of glass, light-colored stone and artisanal wall coverings are set off by beautiful parquet and stone flooring, giving each floor a unique character while remaining part of a coherent whole.

Leather goods, accessories, textiles, fragrances, jewelry and watches – the entire world of Louis Vuitton for women and men has been brought together at a single address.

Objets Nomades – a collection of travel and home objects by renowned designers – will for the first time be available on a permanent basis at the Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme. A space on the second floor is also home to the Appartement where clients can be invited to private viewings of products. Embodying Louis Vuitton’s ancestral savoir-faire, the Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme features two working ateliers, the Atelier Haute Joaillerie and the Atelier Rare & Exceptionnel, where very important clients and celebrities have a chance to discover exceptional pieces from the latest collections, which can be fitted and personalized to their taste.

Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme celebrates art as well, exhibiting a curated selection of 33 contemporary works, some of them specially commissioned for the site, including creations by Laurent Grasso, Yan Pei Ming, Stephen Sprouse, Serge Alain Nitegeka and Paul Nabulumo Namarinjmak.

Louis Vuitton presented 2018 Cruise Collection Kyoto in Japan

Louis Vuitton presented 2018 Cruise Collection Kyoto in Japan

Paris, 2017-May-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — After Palm Springs in 2015 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Louis Vuitton this year headed to Kyoto in Japan to present its Cruise Collection. Expressing the spirit of travel and being on the road, the 2018 Cruise Collection designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton Creative Director for Women’s Collections, fuses fashion, nature and architecture.

To present a 2018 Cruise Collection, Louis Vuitton selected an extraordinary setting that bridges urban and nature, nestled in a hidden valley.  With a blend of exoticism and modernity, the Miho museum designed by architect I. M. Pei in 1997 in Shigaraki, to the southwest of Kyoto in a luscious surrounding forest, hosted a fashion show for the first time in its history.

Nicolas Ghesquière opened a new chapter for the Maison with a collection that pays tribute to designer Kansaï Yamamoto, who inspired an entire generation of Japanese designers to present their creations in France.

Modern and traditional…Western and Oriental…the clothes evoke the question of evolution. The pieces recall the samurai with figurative engraving, ceremonial dress, martial arts uniforms, the dramaturgy of Kurosawa films or the distinctive melancholy of Kitano’s movies.

Pantsuits and architectural tunics feature designs inspired by the paintings of Kokusai. Interwoven jersey and leather sweaters call to mind the armor of Japanese warriors. Japanese cultural references include evening dresses gleaming with Noh theater gold, while handbags and clutches are decorated with Kabuki masks.

LVMH Houses – Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Loewe present at the Milan International Furniture Fair

LVMH Houses – Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Loewe present at the Milan International Furniture Fair

Paris, 2017-Apr-08 — /EPR Retail News/ — Milan, Italy showcases the latest in furniture and design at the Milan International Furniture Fair, from April 4-9. Three LVMH Houses – Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Loewe – are taking part in the event, proposing a sophisticated and intimate art de vivre with collections that blend design, fashion and craft.

FENDI CASA

Fendi Casa presents an elegant and refined collection at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2017, featuring an exclusive version of the Palmer sofa by French industrial designer Toan Nguyen dubbed Six Shades of Palmer. With a dégradé of six hues ranging from intense passion red to a delicate powder pink, his design enhances the graphic lines of the sofa, which has a modular structure to play on the contrasts.  Other items in the collection feature trompe-l’œil motifs on wallpaper, plays on volume with the sinuous lines of the new Stiletto chair, and the elegant Ford table. Tones oscillate between neutral nuances like ivory, chalk and ecru to shades of green, pastel pink and cherry.  A harmonious balance between design and fashion, the Fendi Casa collection celebrates elegant lines and high-quality materials.

LOUIS VUITTON

Created in 2012, the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades collection carries on the Maison’s long tradition of crafting exceptional travel objects. The collection is enriched with ten new items this year, the fruit of collaborations between designers and Louis Vuitton that embody shared ideals. Inspired by Brazilian bombocas candies, the playful sofa by the Campana brothers is designed like a puzzle with eight removable cushions. The talisman-inspired nomadic side table by India Mahdavi features remarkable leather marquetry, while the leather straps on the stunning chair by Atelier Oï resemble Louis Vuitton belts.

LOEWE

For its third contribution to the Milan International Furniture Fair, Loewe presents its Loewe: This is Home collection. A category-spanning universe that combines art forms and expert craft techniques, the line encompasses furniture, lamps, blankets, ceramics and cushions. Conceived by Jonathan Anderson in the spirit of a collage, the collection brings together canework, ceramic vessels with leather details and dyed wool motifs. Handmade in Spain and the U.K., the pieces invite fashion and craft into the home. After Milan, the project will travel to Paris, London and Madrid.

Louis Vuitton to host its first #MAKEAPROMISE day to raise funds for UNICEF’s humanitarian work

Louis Vuitton to host its first #MAKEAPROMISE day to raise funds for UNICEF’s humanitarian work

Paris, 2017-Jan-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — One year after the launch of its global partnership with UNICEF, Louis Vuitton is organizing its first #MAKEAPROMISE day today (JANUARY 12, 2017) to raise funds for children in urgent need.

Louis Vuitton is reaffirming its partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced at the beginning of 2016 to raise funds to support the organization’s humanitarian work. Nearly 250 million children live in countries affected by conflict, natural hazards and epidemics. Since January 2016, the Louis Vuitton for UNICEF partnership has raised $2.5 million to help bring humanitarian support to children in Syria and Nigeria.

To continue its support, Louis Vuitton is today launching the first #MAKEAPROMISE day, an initiative through the Maison’s global network of stores to help provide support for the most vulnerable children. At more than 460 Louis Vuitton stores in over 60 countries worldwide, some 12,000 Louis Vuitton client advisors become special ambassadors of this partnership. During this special day Louis Vuitton will promote sales of the Silver Lockit pendant and bracelet and donate a portion of the proceeds to UNICEF.

Louis Vuitton President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Burke says the #MAKEAPROMISE campaign is a way to “join forces worldwide to raise funds and awareness to support children. We believe in word of mouth and our goal is to reach as many people as possible and make a real difference.”

Louis Vuitton and UNICEF invite everyone to join this campaign by making a direct donation or by purchasing a Silver Lockit and sharing their promise on social networks with #MAKEAPROMISE.

Louis Vuitton launches its Spring-Summer 2017 collection “Series 6” campaign

Paris, 2017-Jan-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — “Series 6”, the new campaign for the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2017 collection, is set on the storied banks of the Seine. Shot by Bruce Weber, Louis Vuitton muses and favorite faces become modern inspirations for a reimagined Paris.

The new Louis Vuitton ad campaign for its Spring-Summer 2017 collection unfolds like a promenade through a romanticized Paris. Shot by celebrated photographer Bruce Weber, “Series 6” pays tribute to the City of Light.

He selected Ile Saint-Louis to photograph some of Louis Vuitton Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière’s favorite heroines. Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Sasha Lane and others become modern inspirations, channeling the muses who sparked the creativity of writers, poets and painters. The powerful silhouettes contrast with the timeless tranquility of the Seine. The season’s handbags play starring roles too alongside these strong personalities.

“Paris is the soul of this collection, with its Right Bank / Left Bank duality,” says Nicolas Ghesquière. “The city is nourished by all artistic influences, and I wanted to pay tribute to this cultivated, intellectual, original and free-spirited Parisienne.”

Les Fontaines Parfumées: LVMH Group inaugurated a site dedicated to perfume creation shared by Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior

Les Fontaines Parfumées: LVMH Group inaugurated a site dedicated to perfume creation shared by Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior

Paris, 2016-Sep-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — On September 15 the LVMH Group inaugurated Les Fontaines Parfumées, a site dedicated to perfume creation shared by Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior. Situated in the heart of Grasse, the cradle of the global perfume industry, this estate will bring the best of French know-how in haute parfumerie to the entire world.

Dedicated entirely to perfume creation, Les Fontaines Parfumées was inaugurated by Bernard Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVMH, along with Maisons Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior. The two LVMH houses come together for the first time in a unique ecosystem that integrates every aspect of perfume-making savoir-faire, from flowers to flacons. The Master Perfumers of the two houses – François Demachy for Christian Dior and Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud for Louis Vuitton – return to their native region, where both grew up and learned the unique skills of an expert “nose”.

In establishing their creative atelier in Grasse, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior are helping preserve the local flowers used to make perfume, ensuring exceptional fragrances while carrying on four centuries of Grasse heritage, inspired by both history and innovation. Grasse has always been synonymous with perfume excellence and is the only place in the world that brings together the singular expertise of flower growers, artisans and perfumers, who continually work together at each step in the creation of a perfume.

Nestled in a lush setting in the heart of the town, Les Fontaines Parfumées resonates with the identity of Grasse and its legacy as a hub of leather tanning that became the world’s perfume capital. The 300-hundred-year-old Bastide, which had fallen into disrepair since the 1970s, has been infused with a new life. This restoration has been anchored in authenticity, scrupulously respecting local savoir-faire, while resolutely connecting with 21st century modernity and innovation.

After four years of meticulous heritage research and a year of renovation work by local craftsmen and master artisans, Les Fontaines Parfumées has experienced a stunning renaissance. In addition to a state-of-the-art perfume laboratory and a former mill transformed into an olfactory training center, the Bastide boasts gardens with an unparalleled array of vegetation. There are over 350 different species of plants, including exceptional roses, thousands of tuberoses and 20 different kinds of mint, all potential sources of inspiration for François Demachy and Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud.

Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior have committed to long-term support for Grasse flower growers thanks to exclusive partnership agreements. Les Fontaines Parfumées will also be dedicated to passing on time-honored skills as the Master Perfumers welcome apprentices and train them.

“The inauguration of Les Fontaines Parfumées reflects our commitment to perpetuating our unique savoir-faire. By establishing this new maison dedicated to perfume in Grasse, LVMH is once again helping preserve and transmit exceptional skills, enabling them to resonate from their native regions,” said Bernard Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVMH.

Louis Vuitton launches new product packaging in bright saffron shade

Louis Vuitton launches new product packaging in bright saffron shade

Paris, 2016-Aug-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — Louis Vuitton has unveiled new product packaging in a bright saffron shade. This distinctive color, part of the history of Louis Vuitton for a century and a half, gives an elegantly distinctive signature to client packages.

The iconic brown chocolate color of Louis Vuitton packaging has been replaced by a bright saffron dubbed “Safran Impérial”. Recently seen during the “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” exhibition, the color in fact first appeared early in the history of the Maison, as can be seen in many iconic heritage pieces. In particular, the saffron tone is found on the “Citroën” trunk made by Louis Vuitton for an expedition to Africa organized by the automaker in 1924.

The packaging includes another historic color, the striking blue used in ribbons and handles to set off the saffron, creating a contemporary, timeless signature. The lighter tone on the sides and interiors of the new packaging echoes the natural cowhide leather used by Louis Vuitton since 1860. Stronger materials and new formats designed to fit conveniently in luggage make the packaging perfect for traveling, in keeping with the Louis Vuitton spirit. The use of raw cotton and a flat-pack collapsible design reflect Louis Vuitton’s longstanding commitment to sustainability.

Louis Vuitton launches new collection of rolling luggage in collaboration with Marc Newson

Louis Vuitton has unveiled  a new collection of rolling luggage created in collaboration with Australian designer Marc Newson. Amazingly lightweight and sturdy, the new Louis Vuitton luggage is expressly designed for the 21st century traveler.

Paris, 2016-Jul-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — Louis Vuitton first made its reputation by creating travel trunks matched to the needs of travelers.  Today the House carries on this tradition with a new collection of wheeled suitcases, designed in collaboration with Marc Newson. “What compelled me to join forces with Louis Vuitton was the challenge to design a great piece of luggage,” says the designer, recognized for his innovative style in a wide range of disciplines. “Like a lot of people, I travel a lot and I feel that I am in many ways kind of uniquely placed to be able to create this luggage, both as  a consumer and as a designer.

Eighteen months of development and three patent applications resulted in a totally innovative suitcase. Made of a new  composite material that is both exceptionally thin and elastic, the luggage is able to withstand the rigors of travel while weighing less. Even the Monogram canvas is lighter thanks to a specially developed version that weighs 50% less without compromising the original characteristics. In a nod to Louis Vuitton’s historic trunks, the corners and handles are covered with natural cowhide. Thanks to a structure that increases resistance and frees interior space, the new luggage boasts an increase in internal volume of 15% while at the same time reducing its weight.

The Maison has introduced innovative services too, offering a 48-hour after-sales repair service in 14 cities around the world, integrated in the Louis Vuitton travel app.

Louis Vuitton organized second hackathon centered on the supply chain

Following the success of its first hackathon, “Unlock the future of luxury”, Louis Vuitton organized a second hackathon, this one centered on the supply chain. The event took place from June 17-19 at Ecole 42, a free computer programming school that does not require a previous degree for admission.

PARIS, 2016-Jun-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — Louis Vuitton deepened its engagement with innovation and new technologies with another hackathon, dubbed “Unlock Supply Chain”. This major challenge immersed participants into the House’s supply chain. Cross-disciplinary teams of students and recent graduates had 48 hours to meet the challenge set by Louis Vuitton: invent groundbreaking applications to improve management of its supply chain.

Some fifty participants, both model architects and data analysts, applied their expertise to develop ingenious solutions working from raw data and an existing planning platform. The goal was to create a connected, collaborative and dynamic tool that spans distribution, planning and procurement. Following two intensive days that included workshops and input from coaches, the coders presented their work to a jury. Louis Vuitton awarded the winning PLAN!T team a trip and an opportunity to work on a pilot project to put their solution to a real-world test.

Guerlain’s La Ruche production site in Chartres
Since its founding in 1828 and the launch of the first production facility on what would become the Place de l’Étoile in Paris, Guerlain has always created and manufactured its products in France. “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez – Louis Vuitton” exhibition runs in Tokyo until June 7

PARIS, 2016-May-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Following the success of the “Voguez, Volez, Voyagez” exhibition, which drew nearly 200,000 visitors at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Louis Vuitton show has traveled to Tokyo, Japan. The thematic exhibition retracing the history of the iconic leathergoods Maison runs until June 7.

As in Paris, visitors to the “Voguez, Volez, Voyagez” exhibition in Tokyo are plunged into the history of the trunk-maker during a  journey in nine chapters that explore the universe of Louis Vuitton and its emblematic trunks. For the Tokyo show, the exhibition also features a chapter dedicated to Japan.

Maison Louis Vuitton and Japan have long held a mutual fascination for one another, nourished from the early decades of the House by the creation of the Monogram by Georges Vuitton, inspired by “mon”, ancestral Japanese family emblems. Gaston-Louis Vuitton, his son, developed a passionate interest in objects from Japanese antiquity. Louis Vuitton was popular among prominent members of modern Japanese society from the late 19th century onwards and opened its first store in Tokyo in 1978, in the same district that is today welcoming the exhibition.

Among the exceptional pieces selected by Olivier Saillard, Director of the Paris Fashion Museum and curator of the exhibition, are a tea ceremony trunk, as well as a Kabuki makeup trunk made for Ebizo XI, the famous traditional Japanese theater actor. Other pieces created through collaborations with artists such as Takashi Murakami and Rei Kawakubo also testify to the rich and deep ties that link Louis Vuitton and Japan.

Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke shares the vision of environmental responsibility at the leather goods House

PARIS, 2015-12-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — In conjunction with the COP21 World Climate Summit, of which LVMH is a partner, we asked five CEOs from our different business sectors to talk about the importance of the environment for their respective Houses. Michael Burke, CEO of Louis Vuitton, shares the vision of environmental responsibility that informs all the activities at the leather goods House.

Why is the environment so important for Louis Vuitton?

The transmission of savoir-faire and heritage is one of the  pillars of Louis Vuitton. Our values quite naturally inspire us to respect nature, a heritage that belongs to all of humanity and lies at the very source of the beauty and excellence of our products. It is abundantly clear to everyone that this respect for nature is fundamental to our enduring success.

Louis Vuitton’s artisans have created pieces designed to be passed on from generation to generation since 1854. At the same time, our Maison is continually innovating today to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment by adopting more responsible practices, spurred by the challenge of achieving ISO 14001 certification for sites.

Since our pioneering carbon audit in 2004 we’ve achieved tangible progress in efficiently managing our consumption of materials and energy, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions generated by transport of our products, as well as in waste management.

Ten years on, this remains a daily priority, led by a central Environment Department that coordinates over 50 correspondents within our different segments and sites. Like travelers engaged with the world, they cascade Louis Vuitton’s environment commitments, ensuring that they mesh with our strategy. There are of course many areas where we can progress further, particularly in terms of eco-design for our products. The issues addressed by the COP21 conference remind us that these efforts are essential. And as a leading luxury house, Louis Vuitton must play an exemplary role, both vis-à-vis the luxury industry and also towards our customers, stakeholders and society as a whole.

Is there one particular initiative Louis Vuitton has taken of which you’re especially proud?

What’s remarkable to start with is seeing the motivation of our teams and employees, who are true eco-citizens when it comes to the environment, proposing an abundance of initiatives that generally spring from simple good sense. This is also a unifying issue that strengthens synergies, because acting responsibly requires coordination across entities to avoid simply transferring emissions to another unit. Plus we should be frank and recognize that ecological practices also save money, particularly if you look at the total cost and long-term benefits.

But to answer your question, I naturally think of a project that both supports our business development and I think illustrates Louis Vuitton’s ambitious commitments to the environment. In November 2013, Louis Vuitton became the first company in the world to earn ISO 14000 environmental management certification for our Leather Goods and Accessories Supply Chain. This proactive initiative ensures that we deploy a supply chain that’s more efficient, that we have the right product at the right place at the right time, all with a reduced environmental impact.

Concretely, the Green Supply Chain project allowed us to set up a range of initiatives that foster a virtuous circle: development of an application for real-time management of the CO2 emissions generated by product transport, reduction of kilometers traveled and volumes shipped and optimized transport packaging. Today, because we’ve made environmental performance an eliminatory criteria in our requests for proposals from transport and logistics providers, we have the means to demand cleaner vehicle fleets and push for deployment of green transportation solutions.

How will the creation of the LVMH Carbon Fund help Louis Vuitton reduce its greenhouse gas emissions?

The results of Louis Vuitton’s first carbon audit made the members of the executive committee aware of the need to take action and make environmental performance a priority for activities that generate the most CO2 emissions, namely transport for our products, the energy consumption of our stores and the design of our products.

Today I view the creation of the Carbon Fund above all as a powerful innovation driver that will help our Maison thrive in the future. Because the fund introduces constraints it creates opportunities for Louis Vuitton to go further with environmental initiatives that have been in place for some time already in order to continue to reduce our carbon footprint. These include expanding electric vehicle deliveries, developing maritime shipping, introducing LED lighting at our sites, etc.

What’s more because creativity is part of Louis Vuitton’s DNA, I’m confident that we’ll invent alternative solutions for products that are more desirable than ever for a more sustainable world.

Louis Vuitton history celebrated with exhibition at Grand Palais in Paris, Dec 4 to Feb 21, 2016

PARIS, 2015-12-7 — /EPR Retail News/ — Louis Vuitton invites visitors on a journey into its history with the exhibition “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” at the Grand Palais in Paris, from December 4 to February 21, 2016. An exceptional opportunity to discover the universe of the iconic leather goods House.

The exhibition, which retraces the remarkable journey of Louis Vuitton, is being held in an appropriately exceptional venue, the Grand Palais, evoking historic links with the trunk-maker.  The Grand Palais was built in 1900 for the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 and included a “Travel & Leather Goods” section, overseen by none other than Georges Vuitton. The Maisonshowcased the contemporary elegance of luggage and bags at an attention-grabbing booth in the form of a merry-go-round.

From a trunk made in 1906 to men’s bags for elegant dandies, the exhibition presents the myriad aspects of travel that have always inspired the House. Visitors are plunged into the history of the trunk-maker as they embark on a thematic journey in nine chapters designed by Robert Carsen. Olivier Saillard, Director of the Paris Fashion Museum and curator of the exhibition, delved deep into Louis Vuitton’s heritage collection and archives to select the unique objects and documents displayed.

Through this discovery of Louis Vuitton’s roots, the exhibition offers insights into its inspirations.  “Louis Vuitton has always been at the avant-garde of creativity. Over a century after the first Universal Exhibition, our Maisonremains at the forefront of fashion precisely because we continue to draw inspiration from our heritage while anticipating future trends,” notes Michael Burke, CEO of Louis Vuitton.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton celebrates its first anniversary

PARIS, FRANCE, 2015-10-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Fondation Louis Vuitton opened its doors a year ago, on October 24, 2014, welcoming the public to its amazing building. In one year, the Foundation has emerged as a major institution in the cultural landscape of Paris, France, and indeed the world. A few figures tell a remarkable success story.

1 year: The Foundation celebrates its first anniversary at the end of October. A new “must” on the Paris cultural scene, the institution has made multidisciplinary programming a key strength, welcoming exhibitions, artistic and musical performances, concerts, plus master classes and educational workshops for young visitors.

3 Hangs: Comprised primarily of works done from the 1960s onwards, the Foundation’s nascent collection is developed around four themes, unified by powerful emotional resonance: contemplative, subjective expressionism, popist and music/sound.

These four themes have been illustrated in three Hangs. For the first phase in the inaugural cycle, Hang 1 centered on a reading of the architecture through a compact presentation of emblematic works. Hang 2 spotlighted the collection’s expressionist and contemplative lines through a variety of works, ranging from Alberto Giacometti to Annette Messager and Ed Atkins. Finally, Hang 3 – which runs until January 4, 2016 – focused on the popist and music/sound lines of the collection.

In addition to its own collection, the Fondation Louis Vuitton has organized several temporary exhibitions, alternating between contemporary shows and historical perspectives. Olafur Eliasson presented unique installations created specially for the Foundation, while the most recent exhibition, Keys to a Passion, brought together an emblematic selection of major works from the 20th century that connect with the four core themes of the collection.

For its 2016 program, the Foundation will feature contemporary Chinese art, both in its own collection and in a series of exhibitions.

1,000: The number of seats in the Auditorium, which welcomes all forms of live artistic performances, especially music. Artists to date have ranged from Lang Lang to Kanye West and Kraftwerk. The public enjoys the performances of musicians and artists from every discipline in this venue, which boasts unique architecture and state-of-the-art technical facilities. Classical music concerts are broadcast on Radio Classique.

3,600 glass panels: With a transparent lightness that evokes the sails of a ship, these panels constitute the roof of the spectacular building designed by Frank Gehry. Conceived as a vessel floating in its natural environment, the boldly unique building was made possible thanks to innovative expertise and technologies. This architectural feat has become a new symbol of Paris, as well as of a France focused on vibrant innovation.

1.2 million visitors: The Fondation targeted 700,000 visitors the first year after the inauguration on October 24, 2014. The tremendous enthusiasm of the public has resulted in attendance well beyond these expectations. What’s more, it has proved especially popular among a young public – a quarter of the visitors are under 26.
