The in-store and online fundraiser took place October through December 2017, ensuring some of the 15 million children in-need around the country were met with a visit from Santa this past holiday season. New this year, Toys“R”Us donated $1 to Toys for Tots for every customer that took advantage of the company’s Price Match Promise, resulting in more than half a million dollars contributed towards the campaign.

Over the course of the last 14 years, Toys“R”Us has been championing play alongside the 70-year veteran organization, raising more than $58 million and collecting over 4.5 million toys.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2017-Nov-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — Meijer is gearing up for the holidays by adding thousands of general merchandise items to its popular store-to-door home delivery service, challenging online retailers as competition for customer wallets continues to increase for Thanksgiving, Christmas and seasonal celebrations.

The general merchandise items now available through Meijer Home Delivery includes the season’s hottest gifts and toys, as well as wrapping paper, artificial trees and Christmas decorations. Other items added to a total of more than 70,000 fresh produce, grocery and general merchandise items hand-picked by Shipt shoppers from local Meijer stores include electronics like TVs, tablets, headphones, drones and gaming systems.

“We’ve had tremendous success delivering groceries to our customers across the Midwest, so we are very pleased to offer them the convenience of having their holiday gifts delivered to their doorstep as well,” Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said. “Whether you are looking for a turkey, toys and gifts or even decorations, our brick–and-mortar stores combined with a personal shopping solution provides something for everyone’s holiday shopping needs.”

Since launching in Detroit last September, Meijer and official home delivery partner Shipt have expanded the personalized service to more than 200 stores in just 148 days. The Meijer Home Delivery service is now on-pace to make more than a million deliveries from its stores by year end, and is now available to more than 10 million households in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and Kentucky.

Keyes said one reason the program has been so successful is the company’s ability to offer product selection from its supercenters. A typical Meijer store features everything from fresh produce and grocery to general merchandise items, including light bulbs, diapers and baby items, as well as bulk items, like bags of rock salt and pet foods.

The National Retail Federation expects retail sales in November and December – excluding automobiles, gasoline and restaurants – to increase as much as 4 percent this year, for a total of $678.75 billion to $682 billion, up from $655.8 billion last year.

Because most Meijer stores are open 24-hours-a-day, customers can choose delivery times most convenient for them, which gives people the flexibility to shop and receive orders very early in the morning or late at night.

Meijer has also provided home delivery service members the ability to earn mPerks Rewards that can be redeemed in store, as well as offering sales on hundreds of items each week found through the Shipt app.

Meijer customers can sign up for the service for $99 per year. Unlimited deliveries are free for orders over $35; a flat $7 delivery fee is added to any orders under $35.

Bridgepoint acquired leading retailer of children’s apparel, toys and accessories in Poland for €247 million

LONDON, 2016-Jan-25 — /EPR Retail News/ — Smyk, the leading retailer of children’s apparel, toys and accessories in Poland, has been acquired by Bridgepoint from Empik Media & Fashion, a Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed retail group, in a transaction totalling €247 million.

Established in 1952 as a toy and apparel retailer in Warsaw, Smyk now operates a network of 125 stores in Poland and has a growing presence in Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Germany.  The company has four store formats comprising a combination of megastores (typically located in retail parks), city stores, small stores in mid-sized cities and local malls, and outlets. It has also recently introduced an apparel-only ‘shop-in-shop’ format for its international markets.  12% of sales are currently made online. 2015 revenues are forecast to reach PLN 1,449 million.

Spend per child in this market is significantly lower than that recorded in Western European markets. The children’s products market is forecast to grow at c.5% per annum whilst Smyk’s specialised niche is expected to grow at an even greater rate of 11% per annum. This growth  will continue predominantly through increase of spend per child, with clear evidence emerging that as Polish families get richer, there is a strong correlation between their disposable income growth and child spend across toys and apparel.

This investment was made by Bridgepoint Europe V, a €4 billion European middle market buyout fund. Bank debt for this transaction was provided by Pekao.  Cornerstone Partners of Poland will take a small minority in the Bridgepoint-led acquisition.

Extended Holiday Hours 

Target stores will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day to mark the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Stores will remain open until 11 p.m. or midnight on Friday evening. The retailer will offer extended store hours to meet guests’ holiday shopping needs:

  • Thanksgiving Day, Nov 26: 6 p.m. – Friday, Nov. 27: 11 p.m. or midnight
  • Dec. 19-23: All stores open 7 a.m. to midnight
  • Dec. 24: All stores open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m.
  • Dec. 25: Closed
  • Dec. 26: All stores open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m., 11 p.m., or midnight

Target works closely with its team members to understand scheduling preferences for the holidays and compensates all hourly team members who work on a national holiday, including Thanksgiving, with pay equal to time-and-a-half their hourly rate. Also, all hourly team members who work certain shifts on Thanksgiving and Black Friday will receive additional compensation on top of holiday premium pay.

As children around the country begin compiling the most important list of their year, families can embrace this age-old tradition, with the added assistance of #ToyExperts, at a series of events that will be held on Saturday, November 8, 15 and 22 from 12 noon to 4pm at Toys“R”Us stores nationwide.

At each event, attendees can preview and play with some of the year’s most talked about toys, as well as enjoy an appearance by Geoffrey the Giraffe, make-and-take crafts and giveaways (while supplies last).

  • On Saturday, November 8, customers will have an opportunity to try out the all-new Skylanders Trap Team game at dedicated Xbox One™ kiosks and tablets within the store.
  • On Saturday, November 15, customers who visit their local store will delight in testing some of the most popular action-packed toys from Hasbro®, including NERF Demolisher, NERF Rebelle Secret Agent Bow, TRANSFORMERS Age of Extinction Mega 1-Step Bumblebee Figure and more.
  • On Saturday, November 22, Little LEGO® builders of all ages are encouraged to visit their local store where they can build and display a LEGO winter scene masterpiece for all to see. Additionally, shoppers will enjoy a number of LEGO-themed giveaways (while supplies last).

Those planning to attend the events are also encouraged to #PlayItForward in support of the company’s 11th year of partnership with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Parents and children will have the opportunity to help fulfill the Christmas wishes of local kids in need by taking and sharing a “selfie” as they donate a toy into the collection bins in Toys“R”Us stores. For every photo shared on social media using #PlayItForward, the company will double the giving and donate an additional toy to Toys for Tots (or the equivalent cash value) up to $150,000 worth of toys.

Updated Toys“R”Us Wish List App Enables Parents to Track Kids’ Wishes

As children stroll through the store, carefully curating their list for Santa, parents can keep track of their little one’s wishes with the Toys“R”Us Wish List app. By downloading the app from the Apple® App Store or Google Play™, parents can turn their smartphone into a scanner, allowing them to scan the barcode of a must-have toy. Once scanned, the toy is then added to a digital Wish List which can be accessed on any smartphone or PC, and shared with family and friends via SMS, email, Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, customers can purchase items from their Wish Lists, right from the app.

From Saturday, November 1 to Wednesday, November 26, customers who create a new Wish List using the Toys“R”Us Wish List app or online at Toysrus.com/WishList, will be automatically entered to win a $1,000 Toys“R”Us Gift Card (limit one entry per person). Christmas is an expensive time of year for families and Sainsbury’s is helping customers across the nation save a whopping £13 million on Christmas gifts this year.

The offer starts on Wednesday 22nd October and will run until Tuesday 28th October, in nearly 500 stores. Every toy will be included in the sale allowing customers to purchase with 25 per cent to 50 per cent off the original price.

With the big day less than two months away it pays to stock up early with top brands like LEGO and Barbie and quality own label toys such as Grow & Play. With more than 50 per cent of all annual toy sales being made between now and Christmas, Sainsbury’s has revealed its top 10 toy discounts to help make money go further.

“Children can enjoy a selection of great quality toys including The Hot Wheels T-Rex Takedown, Baby Annabell Bathtime doll, The Vtech Alphabet train and our own Dino valley control centre.”

The promotion is only available in store and will run from 22nd to 28th October 2014.
