Roger Burnley comments on Sainsbury’s inclusion in The Times as Top 50 employer for women

LONDON, 2014-4-4 — /EPR Retail News/ — I’m delighted that we’ve been recognised by The Times as a Top 50 employer for women.

As a major employer we work hard to ensure that that everyone in our business – regardless, rank, role, location – gets the opportunities they deserve.

We never rest on our laurels – there is always more to do to make sure that Sainsbury’s is a place where our colleagues love to work, and we must constantly listen, adapt and grow to meet our colleagues’ needs.

That challenge is met partly by our supportive mentoring system, where colleagues are encouraged to discuss their strengths and share their experiences.

Often, sharing with peer groups or mentors can help us see where our strengths lie.  So it’s important that we continue to give colleagues these platforms, actively encouraging everyone to get involved.

Now, we need to go further. We know that we can do more to help women to reach senior management roles – particularly in our stores and depots. Through mentoring, development and training, we aim to do that.

I’m incredibly proud of where we’ve got to, and I’m already looking forward to going further to make sure that Sainsbury’s is always a great place to work.
