Carrefour Spain held its first Sustainable Fishery Forum

Spain, 2016-Dec-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — On December 1st, Carrefour Spain held its first Sustainable Fishery Forum with the aim of boosting measures to preserve the biodiversity and sustainability of fishery products. The event took place in the auditorium of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery, Food and Environment.

Carrefour Spain organized this meeting with the aim of sharing with all members of the fishery and aquaculture chain its vision for the future of the sector, as well as to convey the aspects of the company’s policy of corporate social responsibility on this issue.
Representatives from the General Fishery Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery, Food and Environment, organizations like OCEANIA, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, AECOC and CECU and other companies in the sector such as Pescanova, Puerto Celeiro, OPP No. 60 Marina Alta and CEPESCA.

The following attended on behalf of Carrefour: Arturo Molinero, Human Resources and External Relations Director; María Quintín, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environment Director; and Mariano Rodríguez, Quality and Sustainable Development Director. During the meeting work groups were held to seek solutions under the title “How to inform consumers about the sustainability of fishery products” and the so-called “Actions in the three axes of sustainability”.

Responsible fishing
Because of its diversity and quantity, the fisheries sector constitutes a major challenge in terms of sustainability, and Carrefour therefore works on requirements such as traceability, selection of fishing grounds, respect for minimum sizes and promotion of local fisheries.

In 2007 Carrefour signed a collaboration agreement with FROM, and since 2008 it has carried out audits both on the reception platform and its suppliers. Agreements for the protection of traditional fishing such as bream and sea bass, and participation in the “Pesca de ría” programme of the Xunta de Galicia, underpin the company’s commitment.

In collaboration with all the social and economic agents, and together with its customers, Carrefour works on managing the quality and safety of its products and processes while respecting the environment. The group has a firm commitment to sustainable development. As a result of that commitment, in 2001 it joined the United Nations Global Compact and compliance with its environmental and social principles forms part of its action and culture.

Apple opens its third store in Paris — Apple Marché Saint-Germain

Cupertino, California, 2016-Dec-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — Apple Marché Saint-Germain, Apple’s first store on the Left Bank and third in Paris, opened today (DECEMBER 3, 2016) in the historic public market. Clad in Sebastopol Saint Maximin limestone, the new Apple Store blends the original elements with modern design. It’s the first in France to feature many of Apple’s latest retail innovations, including a grove of trees that provides a calming canopy inside the store.

The site dates back to the 1400s, where the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés held the Foire Saint-Germain, a renowned fair that attracted people from all over France from 1486 through the early 1800s. Afterward, the church was rebuilt as the Blondel market, a hotspot for trade in Paris. Around 1860, Napoleon III covered the courtyard to create the structure Parisians are familiar with today.

Avon Foundation for Women launches collaborative to develop action plans to prevent and respond to campus sexual assault

Futures Without Violence and Morehouse College Host National Leadership Institute on Campus Sexual Violence Prevention and Response

ATLANTA, 2016-Dec-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — Today (December 1, 2016 ), the Avon Foundation for Women announced the launch of the first multi-disciplinary collaborative of 20 colleges and universities across the country dedicated to addressing gender-based violence on campus. The collaborative brought together representatives from 10 schools from the southeastern US to participate in a two-day program that dialogues around key learnings from across the country to prevent campus assault and sexual violence. As a result, each participating school will create a campus action plan that takes a trauma-based approach and involves students, college administration, campus police and leading consultants on gender-based violence.

The collaborative is an outcome of The National Leadership Institute: Changing the Narrative on Campus Gender-Based Violence presented by Futures Without Violence, a national health and social justice nonprofit, in partnership with the Gender Violence Program at Harvard Law School and the University of Virginia. The National Leadership Institute was conceived and funded by the Avon Foundation for Women building on the success of the Foundation’s global Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence held around the world.

“The Avon Foundation has been funding bystander initiatives and awareness campaigns around sexual assault for a long time and this National Leadership Institute is breaking new ground to change the way we work together to address gender-based violence,” said Christine Jaworsky, Avon Foundation Program Director. “We’ve just spent two days looking at best practices and solutions to shift campus culture away from victim blaming to a more trauma-based perspective; now the real work begins.”

Through a $200,000 grant from the Avon Foundation, participating schools will develop and implement action plans to prevent and respond to sexual assault at their respective institutions. Futures Without Violence and the extensive faculty of the National Leadership Institute will work closely with the schools to integrate a multi-disciplinary approach to ending gender-based violence on school campuses. This will include webinars with experts, ongoing consultations, toolkits and additional online resources to advance the learning collaborative.

“All of the schools are deeply committed to proactively changing the way gender-based violence is addressed on campus,” said Lonna Davis of Futures Without Violence. “We are particularly appreciative of Morehouse College stepping up to host the National Leadership Institute, the start of a groundbreaking initiative to affect all colleges and universities across the country. The Institute is part of a long-term investment to shift the narrative and introduce a primary prevention and trauma-focused approach that engages the entire school community.”

Futures Without Violence received a grant from the Avon Foundation for Women to research, design and implement the National Leadership Institute curriculum in collaboration with Harvard Law School’s Gender Violence Program and the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education with additional funding from the Jefferson Trust and private donors Stephen and Carolyn McCandless.

“Through legal advocacy grounded in support for survivors and an ethos of care, the Gender Violence Program and Futures Without Violence have been on the forefront of the national effort to use Title IX to prevent and address campus sexual assault,” said Diane L. Rosenfeld, the founding Director of the Gender Violence Program at Harvard Law School and a Lecturer on Law. “Now, we are making an important step forward with the support and leadership of the Avon Foundation.”

The National Leadership Institute focuses on four major areas: 1) fundamentals of gender-based violence and trauma, 2) campus cultures and climate, 3) prevention and education, and 4) response, policy, and adjudication. Developed in consultation with national experts and institutional representatives from schools across the country, the curriculum provides colleges and universities the opportunity to learn best practices in the prevention, response and resolution of sexual violence, and the tools needed to implement action plans. Each school’s action plan will address prevention education; accommodations, support and safety services; retaliation; and investigations, adjudications and resolutions.

The University of Virginia served as one of the founding institutions working with Futures Without Violence and Harvard Law School to host the pilot of the Leadership Institute. “We are grateful to the Jefferson Trust for providing funding for the University of Virginia to serve as a partner on the development and implementation of this program and to the Avon Foundation for the historic creation of the National Leadership Institute to expand our community of higher education institutions working to end gender-based violence,” said Catherine Spears, Assistant Vice President of Equal opportunity at the University of Virginia.

The first National Leadership Institute was held October 25-26, 2016 in Boston with:

  1. Brandeis University
  2. Dean College
  3. Eastern Nazarene College
  4. Emerson College
  5. Lasell College
  6. Lesley University
  7. Providence College
  8. Stonehill College
  9. University of Massachusetts, Lowell

The second National Leadership Institute was held November 30 – December 1, 2016 in Atlanta with:

  4. East Tennessee State University
  5. Georgia Institute of Technology

1,200 new Diebold Nixdorf ATMs with advanced bill payment and contactless functionalities for Raiffeisen Bank

VIENNA, 2016-Dec-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — Raiffeisen Bank Group, Austria’s largest financial institution, is enhancing the consumer experience with 1,200 new Diebold Nixdorf automated teller machines (ATMs) equipped with advanced bill payment and contactless functionalities such as quick response (QR) codes and near field communication (NFC) readers.

With these technical enhancements, the Raiffeisen Group is aligning its self-service delivery channel to the current and future demands of its customers. As soon as the ATMs are installed, consumers will be able to pay their bills quickly and easily using the system’s QR code reader by simply scanning the QR code printed on the bill and making changes or confirming the information from the scanned bill using the ATM’s touchscreen display.

Customers who already have NFC-capable cards will no longer have to insert them into the card reader, but instead can utilize the ATM’s contactless capabilities to maximize convenience and security.

The enhancement of the ATMs through barcode and NFC readers will also enable the bank to deploy many other new applications that allow ATMs to interact with customers’ smartphones in the future – such as a cardless cash function in which the smartphone replaces the bank card.

“With our investment in this state-of-the-art technology, we are acquiring future-proof solutions for the self-service channel for the next decade, and can continue to develop our offers in line with the wishes and needs of our customers,” said Stefan Sandberger, member of the board at Raiffeisen Bank Group.

Raiffeisen Bank Group plans initial installations early next year, followed by a complete rollout.

“We are excited to help drive connected commerce for the Raiffeisen Banking Group. With these technologies, the Raiffeisen Group will be able to bridge the digital and physical worlds and offer its customers new services,” said Alexander Gradl-Noll, General Manager of Diebold Nixdorf in Austria.  “This is one of the largest orders in the history of Diebold Nixdorf Austria and its predecessor companies.”

Diebold Nixdorf: Judge recommends an exclusion order barring the importation of Nautilus Hyosung deposit automation-enabled ATMs and modules

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, 2016-Dec-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — Diebold Nixdorf today (Dec. 1, 2016) announced the initial determination of the International Trade Commission, in which the Administrative Law Judge recommends an exclusion order barring the importation of Nautilus Hyosung deposit automation-enabled automated teller machines (ATMs) and modules. The decision, which finds that Hyosung infringes two Diebold patents and rejects Hyosung’s claim that the patents are invalid, vindicates Diebold’s concern that Hyosung is infringing Diebold’s intellectual property rights.

The patents found to infringe relate to technology allowing the ATM to read the magnetic ink data on a check submitted for deposit, and on structures that make service and maintenance of ATMs simpler and more efficient. Regarding the possibility of Hyosung designing around the magnetic ink patent, Jonathan Leiken, Diebold Nixdorf senior vice president and chief legal officer said, “The only way Nautilus Hyosung can avoid infringing the patent is to rely on optical reading functionality that decreases check reading accuracy and substantially increases the risk of fraud.”

The initial determination found that Hyosung does not infringe a third patent, but the products accused of infringing that patent are the same products as are found to infringe the magnetic-ink patent. Accordingly, the decision on the third patent does not affect the scope of the exclusion order that the Administrative Law Judge has recommended.

The Administrative Law Judge’s decision is subject to review by the International Trade Commission. The Commission defers to the Judge’s findings of fact in the case.

“Our company has built a strong patent portfolio, investing hundreds of millions of dollars in research and development, and has been granted numerous patents to protect that investment,” said Leiken. “We are committed to protecting our interests in U.S. industry, as well as enforcing our intellectual property rights throughout our portfolio of solutions. Following the conclusion of the ITC proceedings, Diebold Nixdorfexpects to seek significant damages in a jury trial in U.S. federal court for Hyosung’s infringement activities.”
