Lagardère Travel Retail chosen as the exclusive retailer of Thankyou’s exciting new book, Chapter One by Daniel Flynn

Melbourne Australia, 2016-Mar-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Lagardère Travel Retail is pleased to announce it has been chosen as the exclusive retailer of Thankyou’s exciting new book, Chapter One by Daniel Flynn.

Telling the raw and real story of Thankyou so far, Chapter One is now available at all Relay, NewsLink and Watermark stores around Australia and www.thankyou.co. The book will sell at a ‘pay what you want’ price, giving customers the power to purchase the book at their own determined price, whether it be $25 or $25,000. Chapter One will inspire the reader to challenge their thinking and dream big.

Speaking of the initiative, Matthieu Mercier, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail in the Pacific, says “We’re very excited to be working with Thankyou on this exciting product launch. At Lagardère Travel Retail we pride ourselves on our involvement with worthwhile social causes, and Chapter One is definitely one of these. We were delighted to be invited as the exclusive retail store seller for the first four weeks“

Customers purchasing the book at their own determined price instantly invest in a crowd-funding campaign to fight global poverty starting with two targets: A Thankyou baby care range to fund maternal and child health services which requires $600,000 of funding and Thankyou’s first leap overseas into New Zealand with a local team, local product and local project partners which requires an additional $600,000.

‘We’re really proud to partner with Lagardère Travel Retail for the launch of Chapter One,” says Daniel Flynn, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Thankyou . “There aren’t many book retailers that would agree to stock a book at a pay-what-you-want price, let alone support Chapter One with the crazy amount of promotional support that Lagardère Travel Retail has. The minute we met the team, we knew that they had the disruptive mindset needed to change the game in book retail”.’

In Chapter One, Daniel Flynn mentions first meeting with Lagardère Travel, and states that Relay, NewsLink and Watermark are some of the biggest travel retail outlets in airports in Australia and New Zealand.

Thankyou is a Melbourne-based social enterprise that exists to end global poverty in this lifetime. 100% of the profits from their water, body care and food products fund safe water, hygiene and sanitation and food aid to people in need. The Thankyou movement aims to empower the consumer to change the world through a simple purchase in their weekly shop. To date they have given over $3.7 million to people in need in 17 countries.

Lagardère Travel Retail brings robotics in travel retail with the launch of Automated Collection Experience (ACE) in Aelia Duty Free at Auckland Airport

Lagardère Travel Retail brings robotics in travel retail with the launch of Automated Collection Experience (ACE) in Aelia Duty Free at Auckland Airport

Auckland, New Zealand, 2015-12-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — A world-first for travel retail, ACE, an acronym for Automated Collection Experience, has arrived in Aelia Duty Free at Auckland Airport. Creating a technology-driven concept, ACE makes the consumer shopping experience not only more convenient but also intriguing and slightly theatrical.

In a world where technology is becoming the defining factor in everyday convenience, the use of robotics in service delivery is cutting edge, revolutionizing the way consumers shop with one implicit promise: speed of service.

With a few simple steps, ACE brings the whole pre-order process into the 21st century, says Ivo Favotto, Executive General Manager of Duty Free & Luxury, Pacific for Lagardère Travel Retail.

“You can now order your duty free goods online and collect them automatically and in-style via ACE. The whole experience is now completely digital. Our ACE is a world first for travel retail and the first retail execution of a robot of this kind in New Zealand. The focus of Aelia Duty Free at Auckland Airport is to revolutionise duty free with experiences that passengers will never forget. Be it the Top Shelf Bar in Departures, where you can get premium cocktail for just $5, or ACE in Arrivals.”

Entirely exposed to consumers from behind the glass, the ACE identifies their box of goods, delivering the purchase within 30 seconds in a highly entertaining and engaging way, enhancing the shopping experience while making it faster and more convenient.

With the overall structure standing four metres high, so heavy that it required the floor to be restructured and strengthened for its installation, ACE is capable of lifting up to 150 kg, ensuring even full duty free allowance orders of 3 bottles of spirits and 6 bottles of wine are no trouble for the robot’s ability.

Richard Barker, Auckland Airport’s general manager of retail and commercial, says, “The ACE robot shows our ongoing commitment to making journeys better and providing a world-class duty free experience at Auckland Airport.”

“Not only does the ACE robot look impressive, it also reduces the time arriving passengers have to wait at the duty free collection point. We congratulate Aelia on their innovation and commitment to customer service,” says Mr Barker.

With similar robots operating at Yotel in New York City and Shoebox in Berlin, the arrival of the ACE at Aelia Duty Free is a testament to parent company Lagardère Travel Retail’s visionary style, recognising the importance of technology and online ordering, just as it has in a traditional retail environment, will become the way of the future for duty free.

With Lagardère Travel Retail being highly experienced in the airport retail environment operating thousands of stores globally in duty free, specialty, convenience and cultural leisure, Aelia Duty Free offers a ‘Here and Nowhere Else’ promise, ensuring the ACE robotic experience remains a highly sought after and exclusive one.

Lagardère Travel Retail opens LINK Karratha store and combined Foodservice outlet at Karratha Airport

Karratha, Australia, 2015-12-2 — /EPR Retail News/ — The travel retailer, who was awarded the Foodservice and Travel Essentials master concession at Karratha Airport, has opened its doors to a LINK Karratha store and a combined Foodservice outlet featuring a cafe, bar and Eagle Boys Pizza.

The opening of these stores, totalling over 470sqm of retail space, excluding dining seating area, represents a significant expansion of Lagardère Travel Retail’s footprint within the region. The LINK Karratha store continues the successful rollout of the concept within Australian airports, and the combined Foodservice operation is an important strategic step for the travel retailer’s vision to become an alternative player in Foodservice within the region.

The LINK store at Karratha Airport has been tailored specifically for Karratha Airport, featuring an extensive tech and accessories execution, casual surf wear, apparel, beauty and travel essentials items that will appeal to the largely ever evolving Fly-in, Fly-out (FIFO) and Visiting Friends & Relatives (VFR) passenger mix. LINK reimagines the traditional books, news and convenience offer as a comprehensive travel essentials offer.

Representing a significant milestone for Lagardère Travel Retails strategy for growth within the region, Pacific CEO Matthieu Mercier said, “We are thrilled to be operating these stores at Karratha Airport, Western Australia’s 2nd busiest airport and Australia’s busiest airport for helicopter traffic.”

“The award of the master concession is enormously rewarding, and we are delighted to have now successfully opened these stores within such a progressive regional airport. Considering the remoteness of the location, the process from tender to involvement with space allocation and build was seamless”.

The combined cafe/bar/grill outlet is the first of its kind in the region operated by Lagardère Travel Retail. The store streamlines the Foodservice operations at Karratha Airport, servicing all day parts and effectively meeting passenger expectations of a new terminal. Lagardère Travel Retail’s expansion of their supply agreement with Eagle Boys Group has enabled an even wider range of bar and snacking products to reach Karratha through their national supply chain.

Karratha Airport General Manager Mitchell Cameron says: “The City of Karratha is delighted to have Lagardère Travel Retail as our concession partner at Karratha Airport. We wanted to provide a depth of offering that is not typical in regional ports; we engaged early with Lagardère Travel Retail working together to provide the traveling public with a seamless and wide range of products, food and beverage options. The stores have been a pivotal part of the redevelopment of Karratha Airport and in demonstrating what can be achieved with good planning and an open partnership.”

The contemporary fit-out channels a sense of place that reflects Karratha and the Pilbara region, and provides travellers with a place to relax and recharge before their flight.

The Karratha Airport stores opened in October 2015, as part of the $35m Airport redevelopment.
